  • Commonly regarded as the ultimate finisher (or a performance’s “magnum opus”) in international piano competitions, Stravinsky’s Petrushka is extremely complex, multi-layered, and virtuosic.
Old clip from when I played it six years ago at the DiMenna Center for Classical Music in NYC.
It’s fairly obvious my technique level was not up to par at the time, but I’m proud of myself for learning it on my own. It was a challenge that I learned a lot and grew from.

I first heard the orchestral version of this piece when I was 12 while studying music history. It never occurred to me that there might be a piano version for it until I heard it being played in piano competitions. That's when I really wanted to learn it on my own.
    It was super, super difficult.
Nevertheless, I learned it, memorized it, and aimed to perform it. I got invited to play in a recital at the DiMenna Center for Classical Music in NYC, and this is a short clip of it.
It was really hectic trying to juggle highschool while learning this piece, but I'm so glad I did it. The things I learned from this experience were absolutely worth it.
    Hope you enjoy!

Damn isn't this the piece with the insane leaps at the climax?

    woa!
How long does it take to get that kind of experience? Maybe if I practice 48 hours a day for 60 years I can play like that…

Haha consistency is key! Just a bit a day goes a long way but taking breaks are essential too :)

Amazing performance 🎉❤! Can you learn this song called Love’s Sorrow by Kreisler. It’s a violin song, but there is a piano version of it arr. by Rachmaninoff.
