  • Here is a very brief excerpt from a day-long presentation I gave in October 2023 at the annual Montreal Teacher's Convention. Although this was customized to the needs of educators facing violence in school settings, the fundamentals apply to everything.

    Hi, Kevin. I been following your work since I saw you on Splinter Cell: Blacklist. The game turned 10 years old this year, and for me is the best of the franchise. If Ubisoft ever decide to make a new one, I hope they call you back to do the mo-cap.
    Keep it up!

      Thank you. I really appreciate that. I’d love to work on another one but I think the next one is already deep into production so it seems unlikely :/

    What are strength standards for self-defence

    • @systemacanada
      @systemacanada  7 месяцев назад

      I don’t understand what you mean. Do you mean what is the minimal level of physical capacity required to defend yourself?

      @@ajithsidhu7183 I don't think it can be quantified like that. The vast majority of self-defense is non-physical: detection, body language, gesture, verbal skills, avoidance, de-escalation. Even when things get physical, there is no real-way to set standards. Motive matters more than method. A person in a wheel chair with a desire to survive at any cost will generally persevere where a power-lifter with no resolve or commitment to survive might fail. Naturally, physical capacity is a huge asset but it's the first thing that we lose in a crisis. Motor skills deteriorate and conflicts often start with ambush and injuries, so overly-investing in physical metrics is the incorrect way to approach survival. The most important amount of weight you should worry about moving is your ability to move the weight of your self out of harm's way. Mobility and animal strength over raw pushing and lifting matters more, but again only in those cases that erode to the physical. Emotional and psychological resolve are far more important in terms of strength, so I focus on workouts that push emotional limits, change environments and require adaptability, and reaffirm motive and drive over ego-centric measurements of moving a particular amount of weight.
