  • ‪ Throughout all of NASCAR gaming history we have wondered what the perfect NASCAR video game would be. Today I look to see what at least I would think would be the greatest NASCAR video game ever.

Here is what the perfect NASCAR game would look like:
    Career Mode:
You start in an All-Star race at a short track (Bristol, North Wilksboro, Irwindale) you qualify and race. Depending on how well you do you get offered rides in ARCA, Dirt or Modifieds depending on where you want to race. If you perform well enough in those series you will be offered rides in higher series. You will also be able to sign a development deal with a major NASCAR Cup Series team. Say for example you sign a deal With Joe Gibbs then you would race their cars or satellite team cars and if you exceed their expectations you will move up, but if you don't you will be dropped from your contract. Eventually you would become a Cup driver with them and replace an existing driver. It should be possible to run part time in other series.
During your career you will be able to negotiate your contract with other teams, read and react to social media posts from fans and media, do pre and post race interviews, and talk to other drivers, your agent, crew chief, owners, etc. through your phone. Your interactions both on and off the track will affect your reputation and popularity among fans and drivers. Your popularity will affect your ability to get sponsors in the future and contract negotiations. Your reputation among drivers will determine how they race against you similar to how it works in other games except maybe not the extremes a driver will go to to wreck you in the NT games. The media should be able to comment on situations going on in the NASCAR universe and have the ability to make you a no name to the next Dale Jr, or Kyle Busch.
If you want to become an owner in any series you can start your own team and it would be similar to how it was in NT 2004. You find new sponsors, negotiate deals with them hire/ fire crew members, other employees (ex. social media manager) purchase shop additions and you could also build or buy engines, bodies and chassis from a rival team. You need to have to maintain your equipment or else the team's performance will suffer. You can become a multi-car team having as many as 4 teams in each series.
Drivers and crew members can become free agents or retire at the end of a season and move to better or worse rides depending on how they performed during their contract so it will be possible to hire other drivers for your team or steal their rides.
    Play Now:
Pretty straight forward, race at any NASCAR track in any series with any driver or custom car you desire
    Season Modes:
Play in a season as any driver or custom car in any NASCAR series
Play in a playoff scenario from past formats
Play as a team owner in any NASCAR series
Create a custom season using any track unlocked in the game as a driver or owner or custom car
    Create a Car:
There needs to be at least 20-30+ options for paint schemes in game or the ability to create a paint scheme online or through photo shop and import it to the game to use in Play Now, Seasons and Online Modes
    Create a Track:
Create a custom track for Play Now and Seasons Mode (maybe Online if possible) Decide the length, shape, banking, width, number of corners, grandstands, elevation changes, infield, lights, walls, surface and race time and length
    Scenario Modes:
Recreate moments from recent NASCAR races and choose to replicate or change history in moments or even over multiple races
Tutorial scenarios so novice or even more advanced players can improve their skills
Practice Mode where you can try different setups as a single car or with other cars on the track (ex. Pack racing at Daytona)
    Online:
Race Now where you race against other players either randomly or with a similar experience level
Online Career Mode: Play against your friends in an online version of the off line Career Mode
Online Season: Play against your friends in an online version of the Season Modes
NASCAR Competitive Leagues: Basically the game's eSports League and subsequent feeder leagues
    Unlockables and DLC:
Basically by playing different game modes and completing certain challenges unlocks different paint schemes, legends cars and their paint schemes, driver suits, past and fantasy tracks, etc. They can be used online as well. It is possible to purchase these through DLC at any time, but there will be no content that is specifically available only by DLC micro-transactions.
This is all I could think of at the top of my head. Basically it would be an updated NT2004 - 2006 hybrid

My perfect game would have gameplay with a track that rubbers in, the AI is very interactive and have situational awareness. A NASCAR Thunder 2004 style career mode with even more detail. Bring back the trophy case. A mode you can race any track and every track day, night, or transitional. Total car control during warm-up laps, cautions, and on pit road. A better smoke model, A very detailed damage model, with random equipment failures. Before they added the damage car policy I would've loved it if your car was too damage to race but not enough to DNF you could work on your car behind the wall flipping through the menus for tools and take parts off and go back out there. A detailed create a track, car, driver, firesuit, team feature where you can control all colors and upload images. Spectator mode for online mode where you can watch from anywhere on track including the booth and spotters tower. Implement the damn Blue flag.

Don't stop my now by Queen (somehow won Top Gear's greatest driving song)
Runnin down a dream by Tom Petty
Believer and roots by Imagine Dragoons
Teams have the ability to progress or regress based on the player or the AI. A player could bring Roush to its old mid-2000s form, make Rick Ware championship team, or Joe Gibbs could really regress over the course of 5-10 years. Players can either make their own team or take control of real one as an owner driver. Fights are added in based on the old EA driver relationships. Some drivers like Jimmie Johnson you really have to tick off, while Clint Bowyer or Kyle Busch are much more likely to start fights. Driving styles are added in so, drivers like Ricky Stenhouse or Ross Chastin are much more aggressive (and more likely cause wrecks), while some like Kevin Harvick are more cautious (which means they're less likely to wreck), and Newman's impossible to pass. A game mode exists in addition where you play through a famous divers from his beginning to their final race and be able to change history. For this I would choose Carl Edwards not only because he's my favorite driver but he was basically an average guy who got his big break

  • @Lusk90
    @Lusk90 4 года назад +1

What I add to the career mode is the way sponsors are signed. They are signed for a few races a year. Like coke wants 8 races and has to have Daytona while McDonald's wants to sponsor you for 3 races and wants pocono. It would be more realistic and add a fun challenge to keep your car sponsored all year while making sure not to upset your sponsor requirements.

  • @jrspaceboy9648
    @jrspaceboy9648 4 года назад +2

I'd buy this, but you didn't talk about the most important part of the game: wrecking. Damage models, personally, would be similar to a Wreckfest mod that lets you play as the 90s stock cars; because as far as I know, it doesn't depend on pre-made wreck models that can be a little same-y. Maybe a special animation for head-on full-speed crashes(because everybody turns around at Talledega at some point). The physics are generally fine in Heat 4 but it looks a tad goofy because the car remains intact with no real smoke effects. That's just my opinion, though.
...and that Sweet Victory idea is truly inspired. ;)

No question, a racing game first and foremost needs a decent engine to run on, which should encapsulate the challenges of driving a heavy stock car, while also rewarding skillful driving, so your eutechnyx style suggestion makes a lot of sense. To truly immerse a player into the harsh world of nascar, a perfect game mustn't shy away from giving you a hard time especially as a rookie and throughout your career, like NT04 did 99% perfectly at the start of a career, where your first top 10 felt like an infinitely bigger achievement than any win in the modern games. Also a big aspect of stock car racing is often times nursing self inflicted damage to a decent finish, so my suggestion would be to just go mad with the damage model, not just for the player, but also the AI of course (needless to say it should take much less these days to terminally damage your car). It doesn't necessarily take massive resources poured into cutscenes or new features like interviews (though they would be nice ofc), instead just giving you a real challenge and giving the player special treatment is 60% of the work done.

    I would add:
Buying and managing engines/chassis along with the crew members similar to 03’
Mixing up the algorithm of the AI so some of the drivers that normally finish at the back, don’t always finish at the back.
Improving or just a complete overhaul of the pit stop. Too easy.
Also introduce communication with your team over the radio. This would be great to combine with the enemy or ally feature

I think you have some good ideas for a NASCAR game, and if I had time to play, I probably would. Here would be what I want to see from a NASCAR game:
    Gameplay:
    - NASCAR Thunder 2004 seems to hit the marks on tire wear and grudges/alliances.
    - NASCAR 2005: Chase for the Cup has the Intimidate feature, which I like to have available on certain tracks where the draft is there, but not necessarily what to rely on.
    - NASCAR 06: Total Team Control allowed you to work with teammates, and even switch to them if you wanted to help them in a race. You also got to earn skill points as them. I think that's a feature that also needs added.
    - NASCAR 07 hits the marks with the adrenaline meter feature, where earning skill points in races makes your car faster and handle better. I also like the driver attributes feature.
    - NASCAR 08 and 09 made it easier to wreck someone you were pissed off at.
    Playing modes:
    - Single race should be how it traditionally has been. Race in any car in any series at any track. Have the player set the race from 3% of the distance, all the way to 100%.
    - Career/Fight to the Top: I think in this mode, it should start with a combination of the prologue, where you get in a street race against a top NASCAR driver, and when you beat him, he spreads the word to team owners, and that gives you the chance to do the equivalent to the Allstate qualifiers to see what division of NASCAR you should start in. Then proceed with your career mode. If you race in more than one division, it should give you the option to select which series you want to race for points in. Contracts can range from a certain number of races to multiple seasons, or select races. (Make it the most in-depth with contracts ever in NASCAR.) Then if you want to start your own team, you can. You can make it up to 4 cars in each division, and you can do one of two options: purchase a pre-existing team, or start your own team from scratch. Then you can choose to hire drivers to race your cars, or drive your own car. (And yes, go more in depth with the contracts, meaning, you can make it possible to have Chase Elliott and Kyle Busch both driving for your team if possible.) And make the career mode go on as long as you want to. Give the option to retire as a driver whenever you want, and retire from career mode whenever you want. Also add the silly season with other drivers retiring, and a free agent list.
    - Season mode: Choose from any division you want to race in, and choose to either run the pre-set schedule, or customize your own schedule, and provide different options for how you want the champion to be decided, if applicable. (Full season points, Chase for the Cup, or Playoffs)
    - Chase for the Cup Mode: Run the final 10 races of the season to determine the champion. You have the option of determining the field based on the 2004 rules, 2007 rules, 2011 rules, or 2014 rules. Then determine who made it in, and how many points they start with if possible.
    - Playoffs Mode: This is the game mode where you specifically play off of the current playoff format. You can choose any of the top-3 divisions to compete in, and determine who is in, where you start, and how many points each of them starts with.
    - Lightning Challenge: The return of the scenario mode, where you either repeat or rewrite history from actual races that happened.
    - Daytona Speedweeks Mode: This is a game mode inspired by WWE's Smackdown vs. Raw games. You can play as real-life drivers during Daytona's Speedweeks in fictional stories, and have them compete to win either the Truck Series race, the Xfinity Series race, or the Daytona 500 as the end goal.
There's more ideas I have, but I gotta get to work, so I'll comment later.

I think giving the player full control of the car from from practice to the checkered flag. Like F1 does, I want to be able to drive my car from the garage area to the track and vice-versa and if I win the race, I want to be able to celebrate as along as possible, drive to the post race inspection line, and then on to victory lane.

With the talk of adding old courses and separate series, I'd love to see ARCA get added to the lineup. Springfield Mile, and Duquoin adding to the dirt with Salem bringing the old school style high banks.
Something I recall from a game was the setup where you were put in the shoes of a legendary situation and you had to basically pull off that moment in time. I'd love to see that happen but where the moment in time basically overlaps with the present. If a situation gets close enough to say the pass in the grass or one hot night all of a sudden the visuals warp to old vhs grain and all the opposing cars change to period correct versions. maybe it'd be better as it's own mode but I think it's the coolest thing giving those legendary moments a shine.

Customizability is Key. I want to able to control my experience. If I want to run spectator championships with custom cars, I should be able to do that. Change Driver Ratings? Yep. Let me choose the rosters for each race. Check. The ability to change points systems if I want. Awesome. I don’t expect it because then why would anyone buy the roster update of a new game when the old can be modded? This is why Nr2003 was so good, you could mod it to anything you wanted because Papyrus was done for.
And Free Agency and Retirements in Career Mode...

If I want to take the cup series to the bullring at Las Vegas or the modifies to Sonoma, I should be able to. 3) more fantasy tracks. Knocksville, Nashville, Mexico City, Montreal, Texas world Speedway, Disneyland, some of the NASCAR Europe and Pinty Series tracks, including street circuits.

    - Every driver who made a start
    - Eutechnyx or Thunder styled driving
    - Robust online and paint booth
    - Fun fantasy tracks
    - A good career mode
    - MAYBE the team control system from 06 and 07

  • @chuckfinley612

I would get Turn10 Studios to make a great NASCAR game. I love the Forza Motorsport Series of theirs. I know a lot of people dislike Forza Motorsports, but I like it. Their graphics, paint booth freedoms, buying/sharing others' paint jobs, the feel in race mode (AI needs upgrading, only complaint), number of tracks, number of cars, replays, and way of keeping racing stats. The "number of cars" and "tracks" would satisfy all of the major NASCAR series, past drivers, old tracks, older cars/paint jobs from seasons past... Endless opportunities. With that great foundation already there it only would need to be tailored to the NASCAR world with pitstops, seasons, career mode with teams, setting the car up, and online mode. If they made a NASCAR game and did it right, I would live on it.

Hell yeah I would. It would also be awesome if you could create your own race track. Like, if you wanted to NASCAR to race at Japan's Twin Ring Motegi or Fuji Speedway you could create something pretty close to it. Those are actually two tracks I would love to see NASCAR race at someday if they ever decided to race in Japan again. The Twin Ring Motegi oval is a similar size and shape to Darlington so that track probably wouldn't be too difficult to create if you use Darlington as a template. You could be able to upload them for other players to download sorta like the community creations in the 2K games. Another thing I would love is for you to be able to customize actual drivers' cars. Like, let's say if you wanted turn #6 into the iconic Valvoline car you could do that. Or if the paint schemes of certain cars were out of date, you could touch them up and make them into what scheme they're using then.

What I personally feel makes for the best NASCAR games is for the game designers to really think outside of the NASCAR status quo, to really think beyond the current state of NASCAR right now. Allowing for gamers to create their own NASCAR cars, teams, tracks, schedules, as well as having lots of tracks NASCAR currently does not race at, and sponsors NASCAR currently does not have in the sport, would be the absolute best. Another cool thing that can be done is to have actual race announcers and commentators calling the race the gamers run, like a real NASCAR telecast. EA Sports used to do this with Bob Jenkins and Benny Parsons giving calls to every race being played in the early NASCAR games.

  • @dawsonwise3519

So the online is just like iRacing. Mods being admins that can remove players and perform other critical admin actions in the session (yellows, clearing black flags, giving wave arounds, etc.). That would be cool from the standpoint of someone who already plays iRacing.
Otherwise, the gameplay sounds awesome. The soundtrack would be killer. I didn’t know you could combine Eric Church, Coldplay, and A7X and make it sound appealing but you still did.

I think you are heading down a good track here. The ally/rival think passed on driver style and not the push of the button definitely awesome idea. The idea of the filly capable paint booth would be a huge touch in a good direction of well. All the unlock able features is a big big move and I would love that like all the paint schemes and tracks from nascar thunder 2002 I think. All the ghost tracks and fantasy is a good idea to pull fans from both generations together in a single game and the trophy case would be cool to see too especially as you move through the career. Also the racing to the rain would be awesome but on the flip side of that coin would you add the xfinity rain tires at all the road courses ?The only thing I would change is your career path. You need to start with something like the dirt to Daytona career and start in a local dirt track and then progress up from there. But you need to complete like three different divisions in that local dirt track and you don’t move from track to track every week except for maybe the last dirt class you need to move up to either a dirt late model or a world of outlaw and that’ll be your choice of which way to go. You only move up after winning the championship too and then from late model or WoO you have to prove yourself in Arca series before getting your ride in trucks and then so forth.
