  • For the first time in Nigeria, our team has captured a large group of Drill monkeys live on trap cameras in the Oban sector of Cross River National Park. While there have been unconfirmed reports of their sightings before, this is the first time such a large group has been captured on camera.
Drill monkeys (Mandrillus leucophaeus) are a highly endangered species, and no comprehensive census has been conducted so far. Their population is estimated to be between 3,000 and 8,000, but these numbers are speculative and could be misleading. It is crucial that the IUCN considers declaring Drill monkeys as Critically Endangered.
