Thanks for finding this reaction and posting. One of their heavier songs, title track to the 2nd album in 2005, the full title is "Consign to Oblivion( A New Age Dawns , Part III). 6 parts, 3 on this album, and 4-6 on the 4th album, Design Your Universe. Yes , this was the closer here in 2017, often used as such, and still played today. That little keyboard part that caught your ear is a piece of the French national anthem, not a normal part of the song, just played for this Parisian crowd. Coen's keyboard is indeed mobile, either on track or on wheels. The top also spins. They modified it with laptop batteries and wireless to facilitate those movements. Yes Simone Simons . you pronounced it using the English version. In Dutch it is pronounced more like See- mon-eh See-mons, but she will answer to either. A Simone vocal heavy song, go for a ballad, try "Rivers" feat Apocalyptica, live in Amsterdam 2023 at AFAS Live. For another heavier song, check out the Design Your Universe album title track, live at Retrospect 10th anniversary concert in 2013, with full orchestra and choir on stage.

Oh boy, now we are talking! One of Epica heavier songs. Agree that in this song Simone doesn’t shine (even though great vocals, but growling is predominant). I would suggest the following: - Kingdom of Heaven part 3 (Omega Alive) - Once Upon a Nightmare (Omega Alive) - Code of Life (live at AFAS) - Design Your Universe (Retrospect) - Unleashed (Retrospect) - Chasing the Dragon (Retrospect) Keep them coming please! The keyboard is fixed to a turntable so he can spin it 360 but it is then fixed to a track that runs behind the drums so he can go from one side of the stage to the other. He had to get the bands techs to come up with a power solution based on a laptop battery as there were no wireless keyboards on the market.
Ayreon is reaction friendly too. I love all of his prog metal musicals or whatever you call it. Genres are only trying to describe the layout of a work before hearing it. Creativity is endless and categories are not meant to be rules. They should be an afterthought when the work is done. Music can go anywhere. If you are an artist. Don't label your music in genres. That is what the press do.
His keyboard won't fall of the stage. It is wireless and attached to a rail that runs all the way along the back of the stage (in this setup, it tends to vary per venue) This rail system doesn't allow it to come off the stage as it is slotted in the raised stage elementens. He can ride it like a scateboard, that's how sturdy it is.
this song is almost 20 years old and almost all these years they play it at the end of each of their concerts 😁 it's different from "storm the sorrow" right?)) in fact they have both very heavy and complex songs and simple hits. Well, and live they are incredibly good, as you understand. and they have often given concerts with a full orchestra and choir on stage, one of them was just recently
Sancta Terra live w/ Floor. Great song, and shows what incredible singers both Simone and Floor are....and it will definitely get the views you want. 😁
Nice reaction to this, thanks! All live Epica is good Epica! You have a lot folks giving suggestions, go with them, they know what they're talking about. And I hear what you mean about TSO, I do pick up some of that sometimes. They're the closest thing we have in US to a symphonic rock type of act. Speaking of which, it's that time of year. Seeing them in Green Bay in Nov. They put on a terrific show, love it! And btw, you do bear a little bit of a resemblance to Big Ben 😅 Take care friend! 🤘✌💙
Biggest spotlight on Simone would probably be the ballad ‘Rivers’ with best version being the Live from AFAS live ft Apocalyptica. For full range of techniques, fully integrated into the EPICA sound including marks vocals too, Coen displaying his full range of keys, and simply the most epic performance (despite the absence of a crowd because of covid), it has to be ‘Kingdom of heaven part 3’ from the Omega Alive concert. Enjoying your enjoyment of this band, hope that you will check these out.
As soon as I saw your video title, I knew you were going to like this. Epica has a really wide range of songs , from soft ballads like rivers, once upon a nightmare ,or soletarry ground to really hard stuff like thisone, essence of silence or kingdom of heavon pt1 , they play often with the oposite vocals of simone and mark , some of my favorite would be from the retrospect show were they performet live with a full orcestra and the more resently omega alive show (covid livestream )
It depends on what kind of tune you like 😂. I would go on with "Code of Life" AFAS live, because again - it is so different and a good one to get an idea of Simone.
Yes, Epica is often on the 'harder' side of the Symphonic Metal genre especially because of Mark's harsh vocals! My favorite next to Nightwish in this genre, and yes, Simone has a beautiful voice!!
Thanks for following up with this one. They use this as their closing song at all their concerts. Simone usually is in the forefront of all their songs, but this one she is used sparingly. As others have suggested, Kingdom of Heaven, Part 3 is their Magnum Opus song. Watch the version from their Omega Alive virtual concert. It's about 13 minutes long and by the end, you still want more. The concert was staged during the pandemic and was done over a period of 5 sessions, all live. It is an "epic" masterpiece.
Simone showcasing her voice... hmm let me think 🤔 Tide of Times, Essence of Silence, Universal Death Squad, Unleash Utopia, Rivers (pref. ft.
