Love the band. Simones singing voice is my absolute favorite, and the band can really enhance it. More Epica please, they have so many great songs 😁.
Epica - Kingdom of Heaven Pt3 (Omega Alive) would be my suggestion.

Hey! Welcome to EPICA World. I suggest you explore this rabbit hole because you will find some surprises in the journey. I believe Epica is one of a kind and the best in terms of combining metal with symphonic elements and they are very diverse. Some suggestions:
    • Once Upon a Nightmare - Omega Alive
    • Design Your Universe - Retrospect
    • Code of Life - Live at AFAS
    • Beyond the Matrix - Live at AFAS
    Cheers from Uruguay

dude you mentioned their album "consign to oblivion" and you just have to see their live show of the same name song from that album, it was in 2017 and it's the most epic performance of theirs that's on youtube, it's just a blast 🔥🔥🔥
Epica - consign to oblivion (live at the zenith) this is gonna be heavy and epic as sh@t

Enjoyed your reaction! I am a fan of both Nightwish and Epica and in general I find Epica to be more symphonic/classical then Nightwish and also heavier and darker. Nightwish tends to lean more to the movie score side of symphonic metal IMO. Also Epica is known for their use of choir's as well. Next Epica you should check out Once Upon a Nightmare from Omega Alive. It features a great guitar and piano duet at the beginning that last several minutes. It is a great ballad where Simone's voice is very prominent and very beautiful.
You also should check out the Swedish band Therion. They are considered one of the first Symphonic Metal bands and they are more on the symphonic side then Epica and Nightwish. My favorite is The SIren of the Woods but I also love Birth of Venus Illegitima and The Rise of Sodom and Gomorrah (love the live performance from Wacken in 2007).
Another group I think you would love is Eye of Melian. It is a side project put together by Martijn Westerholdt, founder of the Dutch symphonic metal band Delain. The music is described as highly influenced by fantasy movie-score music and Tolkien-type and other fantasy lyrical themes. It is best described as ethereal and symphonic. Other members of the project include Martijn's wife Robin La Joy as lyricst (she is a professor of Tolkien literature), Johanna Kurkala as vocalist (famous Finnish pop/folk singer with an angelic etherally beautiful voice and also Tuomas Holpainen of Nightwish's wife), and orchestration by composer Mikko P. Mustonen. Not really metal but incredibly beautiful music and very symphonic. Recommend The Bell, Vita Nova and Everstrong. Doorway of Night is the song most closely tied to Tolkien. Inspired by the Two Trees of Valinor legend from the Simllarion, where Telperion, the Silver Tree, is transformed into the Moon. Lyrics like Tree of Light, Silver Leaves, Dew of Life, Count of Time and Elder Light’s, In Ilmen come from the story. Doorway of Night also comes from the story but with some artistic changes . This song also features Troy Donockley of Nightwish's pipes and flutes and Shir-Ran Yinon of Eleuveite on violins and violas. ruclips.net/video/d7IMmAnnph0/видео.htmlsi=k8Kqhg1rhLUO16ao.

Regarding your expectations with Metal and Orchestra I think I see where you're coming from and that's how many classical-oriented musicians feel when these two combine. I do think there are some good examples of what I think you're expecting, like Therion's Via Nocturna. They are the pioneers of symphonic metal and have great compositions where the two elements complement each other rather than feeling like a background. Or something from Haggard that has a more medieval style and the classical instrumentation and composition is often given most of runtime. Heck I'll even throw Rhapsody of Fire - The Dark Tower of Abyss if you really want baroque metal, and something more obscure and gothic Lacrimosa - Hohelied der Liebe

Don't give up on that ambition of looking for that combination of metal and classical yet...
With more focus on classical composition someone already rightfully tipped Haggard (although I'm not an expert at all, seems to me especially Renaissance influenced music).
Good examples are Per Aspera Ad Astra, Eppur Si Muove and Awaking The Centuries.
But from the same concert (Retrospect) from Epica I think Chasing The Dragon is one of the most perfectly balanced combinations of metal and orchestra (and with the bonus of Simone's voice). There neither part is dominant in composition. And also interesting is the 3 voices Simone, Mark (growls) and choir, each representing their own "character" in the song.
Another song of the same concert with that balance is The Divine Conspirancy.
A 3rd favourite of mine of the Retrospect concert is Design Your Universe. Maybe a bit more straightforward, like Unleashed, but does take you on a journey.
From Epica also interesting is the trilogy Kingdom of Heaven (pt1 to 3). From their online concert during the Covid pandemic Omega Alive you can find Kingdom of heave pt1 and pt3 performed back to back (will make your reaction video a bit longer 😊). Interesting to hear how much they changed during 12 years in the same theme.

To say "they're really good" is an understatement! Also, Epica is generally way heavier than Nightwish!
Also, you better change your view with Epica! The band members have music degrees. They know what they're doing!

    • @nikosv95
      @nikosv95 2 месяца назад

They have music degrees and most of what they play is generic chugging riffs riding the pedal notes and predictable chord progressions? They obviously didn't learn anything from their teachers , lol... People pretending like the band memebers are some kind of musical virtuosos is absurd and 𝗶𝗱𝗶𝗼𝘁𝗶𝗰. Listen to Bryan from Crirtical reactions, who is knowledgable in composition, break down their Design your Universe album and call it "𝗱𝗶𝘀𝘀𝗮𝗽𝗼𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 and generic".

Sorry dude, but the GOLD standard of Symponic metal is only ONE: Nightwish LIVE at Wacken 2013. Compared to that all else in this category is disappears into nothingness. And as much as I like and admire Simone, FLOOR is the ONLY QUEEN and Valikiry GODESS of METAL. (o and by the way: tajra can not even carry her coat tails)

@@VeljkoNikolic-is5px Sorry dude, Floor Jansen is the BEST SINGER I have ever heard (and I am a musician, and I grew up in a house with classical music and Opera). Simone is OK and has beautifull headvoice, but Floor is BETTER and stands Miles above all other metal singers, the only "garbage screeming" is the tinnitus in your ears that makes it impossible for you to hear good music. Now go home and weep (or buy a new hearing aid), and stop bothering the grownups. 🤡
