Hello! What is your opinion on how many times one should “click” the ratchet? I’ve always stuck to 3 but I’ve heard that it doesn’t matter, you’ll still get the same reading. I’m just wondering if constant ratcheting will lead to a breakdown of the gage?

I agree with you about 3 clicks. I have not verified it, but I was told 30 years ago that was an Air Force spec. What I do know is, the moments just before the clicks are critical. If the spindle hits the object hard, you will read too small even before it clicks. If you are not in full contact, meaning both anvil and spindle are not perpendicular to the piece, you likely will read low. My own method is to carefully approach the contact, slide it a bit up and down (if it is safe to do that just slightly) to feel the contact, and then smoothly click it 3 times. It sounds like a lot, but in practice happens pretty quickly.

Hi i make chocolate butter and i used to rely on my taste to make sure that the chocolate is ready and refined. I'm gonna start using a micrometer soon and that was helpful. Any other tips?

Best practice is to not eat the chocolate before you have a chance to measure it.

Seems pretty lazy to me using a digital mic. Just use your brain and learn to read a normal one .

Chris Burnsed unless you’re Job requires it why wouldn’t you use a digital micrometer if you are measuring diameter of thickness

@@sexsells1754 thickness has no diameter, only depth.
