    Hi everyone! This post comes with an exciting announcement for you all. Here in Minisodes HQ I have been quietly plotting to dedicate more time and energy into the channel, giving you more Minisodes and finding more ways to share with you my love of the golden age of Warhammer.
    As of today, for the cost of a White Dwarf magazine circa 1997, you can access my new Patreon. I already have a podcast up for your listening pleasure, in which I (amongst other things) give you the inside scoop on the channel, future plans and a commentary on one of my favourite bits of 40k short fiction.
    This Patreon is very much inspired by this wonderful community and I can't wait to start engaging with patrons and hearing all about what you'd love to see from the channel (as well as having a good chinwag about all things 2nd Edition). Hope to see you over there.

    Everything about these battle reports is perfect. From the baleful British narration, to the eighties-style music and the pixellated cinematics. This is what Warhammer 40K was back when I was a kid.

    One of the things I like about Oldhammer is that the models are way more relatable, because even though they are space marines and orks etc, they are mostly infantry, with just a few tanks or special units among them. Modern Warhammer seems to be so full of weird and exotic units that it can be difficult to figure out what's going on or even identify with it in any meaningful way.

      I was having the same discussion with someone of a similar age to myself. We both had done 40k in the early 90’s and left but have returned in our 40’s. It amazing how a 2000 point army has grown. A army used to a vehicle, a couple of squads, a monster / Dreadnaught and a Hero. Know that is a combat patrol.

    • @HeadCannonPrime
      @HeadCannonPrime 3 месяца назад +16

      yes 100%. Also It felt like your regular dudes were a lot more meaningful, a squad sergeant could be a super hero and a terminator was like a god. Modern 40k, every troop is basically dice fodder unless they are that special honor guard hyper mega super artificer model, in which case they just carve through everything they look at and are basically unkillable until you reach the equivalent enemy character.

      People will hate me for saying this. But this is where 3e excelled, it was a skirmish wargame where the focus was on the army... 2e was quite herohammer and special ability heavy at times...
      But I prefer both to modern warhammer...
      3e is still my favourite to play though, so much faster and very focused on customising the experience for yourself and your army but without the rpg bloat in 2e.

    Man 2nd edition was such a vibrant game.
    The models really felt like they were battling each other.
    And the rules just naturally created such epic and heroic events. Case in point the orc wartrakk imolatimg the devastators and the marine scout defending the landing pad against a wave of orks scaling up it!
