What I love about Don’s design is despite losing all his gold and looking more worn as his ascensions progress, he feels more noble and knightly in his later ascensions to me. I’m not sure how to put it but his first ascension feels like he’s compensating, and is entirely in his delusions. He doesn’t feel like someone you would trust to get the job done. While by his final ascension his more battle worn appearance kinda shows that while he may not be the strongest knight, he has more experience and seems more dependable.

I guess that's a byproduct of it feeling more grounded. Gives him this dignity that the glittering gold doesn't give him, which makes him seem more trustworthy

I don't think that the artists had thought too much on chosing blue for Johana's designe, but Virgin Mary is offten depicted with a blue veil, thus on her case it may represent a feminine sanctity of some sort.

Good to know that bit. One thing I've learned doing videos like this is that artists will have the craziest ideas and things are always either as simple as they seem or more complex than anyone other than them would have suspected

I think Sancho becoming more fancy signifies how Don's story is way larger than himself, because in It everyone relevant that interacts with the old man has a way more interesting history than him, who's just a dude causing trouble, therefore the side character becomes more eye catching while the main character loses It's luster the more time you spend with him

I thought Kriemhild's third ascension told quite a bit. There's still the black there to reflect grief, but she's added some cold silvery armor to reflect that she's not going to be a quiet and grieving widow. She's all in on fighting and claiming her revenge. And there is similarity to the kind of armor Siegfried wore (especially with the gauntlets). I could see wanting something flashier, but I felt her outfit was telling quite a story. Even the second one likely reflecting her royal heritage and looking like a military uniform. Fitting for someone of her status who made use of everything at her disposal to get revenge.
Nothing against the views overall. Charlemagne had some really nice designs. He's a cool guy! For me Johanna is fine. It all makes sense for a Pope character. I just didn't care that much about her as a character or about her design. Kind of the girl next door who is also the Pope (there's probably a VN about that...).
No complaints about the top spot. It is ironic and yet fitting that he looks increasingly banged up and worse as he goes along. Reflecting who Don Quixote is as a character. Gameplay is a shame, but design wise he turned out great.

Those are some good points about Kriemhild's design! You've definitely sold me on on her third ascension, which makes me wish the second ascension was a bit more impactful... Either way thanks for the perspective! There is always something I don't consider in my videos so I appreciate comments like this!
For Johanna I think more than anything I was sold by the restraint they showed here. They have a few crossdressing women from history in the game, but this is the first time I think they actually stuck with that bit so it impressed me

I heard one theory that Constantine's third ascension art is based of the legend of the Marble Emperor.

Missed that legend when I was looking into Constantine. I can definitely buy that idea with the colors!

Can't believe I missed the reference to the golden dragon! I even brought it up in one of my other videos...
And thanks for telling me that thing about the Triad. That's a pretty neat piece of trivia!

Ruler Moriarty's "Staff" is supposed to be a Slide Ruler which is a link to Moriarty being a mathematician. Also I heard a theory that Krim's three outfits reference three points in her story. Her first outfit is supposed to be a funeral dress placing the outfit to just after Siegfred's death. Her second outfit is her planning out her revenge while her final outfit is her in armor about to begin her vengeance

Fun fact: Ruler M second ascension cape inner design gives the same vibes as French fleurs-de-lis flag, which is fitting of him assuming the position of "Napoleon of Crime"
