- On this episode of It’s Topical, we throw the spotlight on immigration. As South Africa's Government of National Unity marks 100 days, has there been any progress or regression in the immigration issue?
To unpack this question we are joined by Sihle Lonzi from the EFF, Funzi Ngobeni from ActionSA and the Immigration law Expert, Ashraf Essop. People from various backgrounds, both locals and foreign nationals, voice their concerns about immigration.

There is no immigration crisis without the immigrants. Countries in the EU 🇪🇺 are crumbling due to illegal immigration. The political climate in the USA 🇺🇸 is dark right now, largely because of the Southern Border and illegal immigration politics.
It’s strange how many expect us to fight our own government over a crisis caused by outsiders. Immigrants couldn’t fight their own governments to build and develop their countries. Illegal foreigners are responsible for illegal immigration and the problems that come with it; they are the real issue. Smart people know and accept this.
We cannot allow people who entered our country illegally, especially after we reached a negotiated settlement with previous invaders, to dictate who we should fight or where to focus our efforts. Their governments failed them, and it is not our government's job to fix that. This is why these 'illegal foreigners' come through dubious means. OUR government is doing something right, which is why you and I aren’t fleeing to neighboring countries.
I’m glad more people are waking up to this reality. Otherwise, we might end up protesting and destroying our own government, voting for the wrong leaders based on the influence of these invaders, who contribute nothing but only seek to extract value. They know exactly what they are doing.

The issue here is the access to finance for these highly critical skills courses. It does not come cheap at all for citizens. The cost of financing citizens in education for these courses is higher than granting immigrants the critical skills visa. You should check the stats for Caucasians who have critical skills visas. Issues of borders, particularly from the neighbouring countries weren't treated as harsh as they are trying to do now, unfortunately it's not gonna be easy because these people have been comfortable for so long and established their own ways of crossing in and out of SA illegally. It's gonna take a long time, but it requires collaboration from all stakeholders instead of addressing it emotionally. We should also bare in mind that SA is signatory to many human rights international entities and has to abide by certain standards when addressing issues of migration and the likes.
