yeah there was a halo game, you can watch one here : ruclips.net/video/WI6scPDJCVs/видео.html So many games were destroyed it's hard to keep track, awesome event as usual.
I'm still baffled how you all are playing through these games that I grew up with, and finishing in record time that no one else would even dream of....... I SALUTE YOU ALL .
26:38 - The bridge scene. I remember when I was a kid I wanted to see what happened if you shoot the Ridley statue from behind. I can confirm that you do get stuck.
I believe he meant deathless as in deaths that help him warp to other areas, that first death sent him back progress wise so I think that's why, also I don't think AGDQ does resets? Not sure
GDQ does not do resets unless something goes horribly wrong very very early. I think I've only seen one real reset in the 4 years I've seen. Most the time the runners have to power through it or use a premade save they made in case of crashes
Yeah I think that's correct. I have seen a reset in Castlevania 2 once because he softlocked the game during a shortcut, it was 10 minutes into the run and there's no way out of it, but yes I think GDQ doesn't do resets unless required. And it sounded from the commentators like "deathless" was a simplified way to label this category, they said technically it's "warpless" but idk the details.
Same, but I wasn't walking through walls (cheating), & I bet you weren't either. ;) I also didn't have hundreds of people clapping for me when I made a jump. :/
They should have just called it "no deathwarp," if they were worried the other things looked like warps. That's better than "deathless," since it was always possible the runner would die.
Damn, when I was playing this game on my Nintendo in like 1986, why didn't I have a room full of hundreds of people clapping for me when I made a jump? :/
Your audio levels are wonky, I spent half of the Dragon Warrior block trying to figure out why my volume had to be all the way up to hear, then this block started and blew my damn headphones out
I played hundreds of hours of super Metroid... Not until watching this video just now did i realize it was a remake.. always thought it was a part 2 with certain throwback rooms
qvistus82 That's arguable. It's more in line with how after making a very different second game Nintendo went back to square one for the third (see Zelda, Fire Emblem). And then they made an actual remake in 2004
Ian van Ingen it'll never happen. nintendo's robot lawyers that shoot bees out of their mouths would be sicced on the charity event and force them out of buisness. For the record, it disgusts me, AM2R was a much better remake of RoS than Samus Returns, and it deserves the light of day.
TheSVSexton I know, and i completely agree that samus returns is garbage shit compared to AM2R. But we had Super Metroid rotation hack and technicaly nintendo could just as easily take the event down for that.
Ian van Ingen I honestly think they're butt hurt that a group of dedicated fans outperformed them. It kind of reminds me of Miyamoto shitting on the donkey kong country trilogy because of its "graphics". It's obvious he was just bitter that they improved on every element he'd designed to that point in nearly every way.
TheSVSexton That's so true, i think if they'd hire DoctorM64s team and let them make 3DS port for AM2R nobody would have even noticed that is was made by an amateur developer team.
Ian van Ingen It's not the same, but some good did come from this. I believe the media exposure helped get DrM64 hired on to help develop the new Ori game in the works, so at least he has a bright future ahead of him with even bigger and better things to come.
A great way to revisit this game. You get the gist of it quickly and to be honest it's just too archaic for me to play anymore. I don't want to spend 10 minutes filling up health tanks every time I die.
Dev n No he's definitely referring to Rick and Morty. The runners name is a reference to Marty from back to the future and Morty is also a reference to Marty. The "my man" being repeated is in reference to one of the episodes (its also obvious by how he says it). Either way though, its fucking obnoxious.
To be fair, you have to have a very high IQ to understand Rick and Morty. The humor is extremely subtle, and without a solid grasp of theoretical physics most of the jokes will go over a typical viewer's head. There's also Rick's nihilistic outlook, which is deftly woven into his characterisation - his personal philosophy draws heavily fromNarodnaya Volya literature, for instance. The fans understand this stuff; they have the intellectual capacity to truly appreciate the depths of these jokes, to realize that they're not just funny- they say something deep about LIFE. As a consequence people who dislike Rick and Morty truly ARE idiots- of course they wouldn't appreciate, for instance, the humour in Rick's existencial catchphrase "Wubba Lubba Dub Dub," which itself is a cryptic reference to Turgenev's Russian epic Fathers and Sons I'm smirking right now just imagining one of those addlepated simpletons scratching their heads in confusion as Dan Harmon's genius unfolds itself on their television screens. What fools... how I pity them. 😂 And yes by the way, I DO have a Rick and Morty tattoo. And no, you cannot see it. It's for the ladies' eyes only- And even they have to demonstrate that they're within 5 IQ points of my own (preferably lower) beforehand.
Jason Biggs It also takes a high level of intelligence to understand comedic timing (or comedy in general), and repeating the same thing over and over shows a lack of comedic intelligence. You don't need a high level of intelligence to understand references... just because you watched Zardoz once doesn't make you a smart critical thinker as the guy who keeps repeating the same joke demonstrates.

yeah!! i glad i grew up with this epic classic in my NES i did a roleplay series playthrough of Samus Aran on Mass Effect A some people may enjoy it :)
David Baird that's not what was introduced by commentator. So NOT deathless in my book either. Maybe a mistake but that's what was said and I saw him die!
Clearly Metroid runners and I have very different definitions for "warpless". I think moving form one part of the map to another part when they aren't actually connected sure seems like a "warp" tome.
A warp, in speedrunning terms, would be somehow going from one "room" to another without passing through the space in between. What I saw in this was just screenwrapping. He would go so high off the screen that he came out the bottom. The only thing that I saw that would technically be called a warp is when he went through on door, but came out the door on the other side of the room. But he still didn't skip the room itself, so I can see why they don't count it. That said, I think a better term is "no deathwarps." That's the specific type of warp they seem to be avoiding. And it seems that up-a is effectively just a kill button.
WE GET IT HE'S YOUR MAN
I don't think you get it
I thought I was watching Rick and Morty in the background.
i dunno. i have to watch it again now? xD
my man B|
Craig Adams dude chill
I ADORE the guy who is commentating in this run. That guy does a FANTASTIC job no matter what the game is.
Blechy rocks. He's been with GDQ since the beginning. A lot of runners know all the tech, Blechy knows the tech and knows how to make it interesting.
Apart from saying it was a deathless run. Lol
ThePogger80 deathless means they don't abuse a death mechanic that let's you warp forward a bit
Most of the videos I've seen from this year have had fantastic commentary, esp the Halo 4 one.
yeah there was a halo game, you can watch one here : ruclips.net/video/WI6scPDJCVs/видео.html
So many games were destroyed it's hard to keep track, awesome event as usual.
M Y M A N
Mr. Goldenfold, chilling in the audience.
What I was thinking! Hahahahaha
Man it's gotta be hard to pull off these tricks live in a room full of people while you have experts talking about how hard the next trick is
For real!
I'm still baffled how you all are playing through these games that I grew up with, and finishing in record time that no one else would even dream of....... I SALUTE YOU ALL .
This guy is nuts at NES Metroid! Good job, metroidmcfly! keep it up!
I appreciate that the runner is taking time to say thanks to (nearly) every donation. Shows class.
SO glad to see this game return to AGDQ! I was a kid in the 80s and this game was like the present and the future Maru Mari’d into one!
My man! Seeing this live was such a trip! Miss all you guys, what a legendary run!
26:38 - The bridge scene. I remember when I was a kid I wanted to see what happened if you shoot the Ridley statue from behind. I can confirm that you do get stuck.

GDQ does not do resets unless something goes horribly wrong very very early. I think I've only seen one real reset in the 4 years I've seen. Most the time the runners have to power through it or use a premade save they made in case of crashes
Yeah I saw that happen in the Castlevania SotN run where he loaded from his medusa save, thanks
Yeah I think that's correct. I have seen a reset in Castlevania 2 once because he softlocked the game during a shortcut, it was 10 minutes into the run and there's no way out of it, but yes I think GDQ doesn't do resets unless required. AGDQ puts an emphasis on runs and commenters being entertaining, so, things aren't going be super strict.
Keizaron's reset in Animorphs in AGDQ 2016 was amazing, if you haven't seen it, you need to. Everything goes horribly wrong in the most amazing way.
LOVED watching this run. McFly is a Metroid god. And of course, Blechy and Dragondarch are the best commentators ever.
Such a classic game! I still own the NES cart and play it every now and then.
Hey McFly, say hi to your Mother Brain for me.
best comment
Biff
That was AWESOME! love me some metroids speed runs!
My man My man My man My man … does this guy think he is Aquaman or something? lol
Rick and Morty.
Yes.
My man!
Ride ain't over yet!
16:40 Loves these rooms in classic Metroid. Play that room's music on the way to opening Christmas gifts.
My favorite commentator was Jason Momoa's Aquaman.
Took me 20 days to beat this game as a kid......and this guy did it in 20 min
Same, but I wasn't walking through walls (cheating), & I bet you weren't either. ;)
I also didn't have hundreds of people clapping for me when I made a jump. :/
Somehow, I missed this! Nice job McFly! Congrats!
Got this game for Christmas when I was in the 2nd grade. I had no idea what I was doing back then.
Still haven't beaten it.
MY MAN! first i thought it was annoying, then i smoked a bowl and thought it was great... My Man!
This game is really something.
These are the greatest thing ever
The runner has something of a southern charm to him.
Wait, wait, wait... hold up, Metroid is a girl???
Nah, it's
MY WOMAN
And tasty!
I think Metroid is a pretty cool dude. He has a vagina and doesn't afraid of anything.
Andrew Turner wtf mate
"Metroid is a space man. He has a gun for an arm. He can turn into a circle" - Run Button
Somewhere, a Twin Galaxies judge is watching those door glitches and crying.
31:05 Some in the crowd are waving back :)
They should have just called it "no deathwarp," if they were worried the other things looked like warps. That's better than "deathless," since it was always possible the runner would die.
Excellent commentary
go to about 7:00 and compare the two release dates….
Damn, when I was playing this game on my Nintendo in like 1986, why didn't I have a room full of hundreds of people clapping for me when I made a jump? :/
Such a great run...
Where is blueglass? I miss his laugh...🤣
That makes 1 of us :)
I really do love the guy though, hope he's doing alright.
I miss his Ecco runs :(
22min49sec is under 1hour, right?
Why he did not get best ending?
You might get the bikini ending when finishing under one hour, or am i wrong?🤔
Looking for a run with original sprite (helmeted Samus).
So it's possible to change the outfit depending on the password.
That was pretty sick.
Mah man!
How do choose whether to fire a missile or the normal shot, when the NES only had two buttons (A+B)?
Select
The guy on the left looks like he's holding his eyes closed as tight as he can.
His my man is on point
1st NES game I ever beat!
Ahh yes, the famous code that makes Mario run around in his boxers.
Such a great game
Was that off screen to his home planet thing a Simpsons poochy reference?
It only took me about three years to beat this game the first time..
McFly!! MCFLYYYYYYYY!!!!
Nice run! And the runner does look like a McFly
Killer run.
Great run!
My man guy got annoying though... Once is cool. A callback is fun. But something like a dozen times in a 30 minute run es no bueno.
Your audio levels are wonky, I spent half of the Dragon Warrior block trying to figure out why my volume had to be all the way up to hear, then this block started and blew my damn headphones out
Commentator was great

a remake would be on the GBA.
I swear to god if I hear "my man" one more time......
7:45
My man
Muscles from hand to foot
Completely coated in uninterrupted skin
My man
Signals command the leg
To follow orders coming down from headquarters
Not exactly "deathless" though, was it?
How did you get 75 missiles?
Kraid and Ridley both give 75 missiles.
It's impossibly hard to screenwrap and damage boost into Kraid's room with zero missiles...
great job
*When is AM2R coming to gdq?*

All couch commentaries should be like this!
warpless != wrapless
A great way to revisit this game. You get the gist of it quickly and to be honest it's just too archaic for me to play anymore. I don't want to spend 10 minutes filling up health tanks every time I die.
The ' my man' thing was old last decade...
Say "My Man" again! I dare you, I double dare you!
My man!
MY MAN!!!!!!
Oh wow proton jon donated
Metroid My Man Mick Fly
My man was funny the first time... but it got obnoxious really fast
I clenched so hard when he had 2 energy left. My man!
MY MAN
IS THIS A VIDEO GAME ?
Is this a caulk block ?
The only thing i dont like about this game is, it doesnt have a map function. Still a great game.
Why does he get missiles right after beating kraid?
Kraid always increases your missiles so does Ridley
I just stopped in to listen to the music.
It's geemer not g'eemer
What's up with Samus' changing hair color
The color change is when he's switching from primary weapon to missiles (by pressing SELECT.)
The guy saying “my man” needs to get over it, he’s late to that little meme
jesus, chill out lol
You're thinking of "my dude" or "my guy". "My man" has been used for many many many years
Dev n No he's definitely referring to Rick and Morty. The runners name is a reference to Marty from back to the future and Morty is also a reference to Marty. The "my man" being repeated is in reference to one of the episodes (its also obvious by how he says it). Either way though, its fucking obnoxious.
Would like to see a legit full run on metroid, without shortcuts, nor glitches.
10 yr old me feels like a freak’n moron.... wait... so does 37 yr old me :/
comedy is constantly making lame rick and morty references
Justin Clitheroe Basically the Uganda knuckles meme

Why does ridley look like kiff from futurama
Futurama models itself after Metroid.
This stats at 6:52
Oof this game is harsh.
Amazing
Girl in the front can get it.

So i've watched the hole run whats my comment...
M A H M A N!
He is the mannnn..dammm. good
Awkward high fives at the end almost as awkward as the dude doin the Denzel My Man shout outs at again the most awkward times.
Great run tho!!
Nah those My Man's were natural and appropriate for those insane tricks.
Great run indeed!
mYmAAAAn
yeah!!
i glad i grew up with this epic classic in my NES
i did a roleplay series playthrough of Samus Aran on Mass Effect A
some people may enjoy it
:)
k got it deathless
LaggyMcDougal The official category is not deathless. Its just that deaths help you warp. So it is a warpless category
