Excellent drill coach. Found it just in time. I have a player that is getting really good at getting to the hole but then gets stopped every time. This should help her a ton. BTW these type of quick hops help with preventing ACL injuries. We do them at the start of each practice. Now we can do the hops and get a shot in! Thanks
This is a great video and drill. I incorporated it in the workouts with my children. They found it to helpful and it showed them different options with the ball.
Coach Bo Bell, I would like to thank you for your videos, they have been a joy to watch and a great learning tool for my kids. I have a question about a video. I remember there was Elite Footwork Training part 2. Bo went over the "tester" and other jab step moves. My team is in dire need of that information. Any chance you would be able to upload that video?
Good job coach. I think jump stop is one of the most underrated moves in all of basketball. And it is not used nearly enough and I don't think young players are being taught the significance of the jump stop. Going to add these drills to my training @ St Louis Elite Basketball Academy
Interesting stuff. the kid wearing the all black has a problem with pronation with his left foot that prevents him from being as explosive as he could be. If you look at his left foot when he is moving dynamically, his arch collapses, which slows his body down. You can see the effects when he spins, he is unable to get his hips around fast enough.
Use of the thumb to grasp the ball ..So also holding the ball around the waist line with more of the ball toward you appropriately protecting the ball from a defence >..??
Is Spovelax Training Program helpful to improve the weakest part of your game. ? I have read many good things about Spovelax Training Program (just search it on google).
When you jump stop you are making whichever foot you pick up first your pivot foot. So it is a pivot move with your right foot towards the basket while keeping your non-pivot foot anchored and shot, and not really a layup if that makes it easier to understand. As long as they shoot before picking up their non-pivot foot then it is a not a travel.
The purpose of the drill is give u different option after making the stop bc naturally when u going to score u going to jump off one foot regardless it's feels natural.
Close Shelby. I think I know what you mean, but the foot you don't pick up will be your pivot foot, and as long as you shoot before that foot moves or realistically at the same time, no travel would be called.
They call it because either the player lifts the pivot foot or jumps off it, instead of jumping off both feet. If the pivot foot leaves the ground at anytime, it's a travel, unless you're jump off both.
11 years later this might be one of the best videos on RUclips for basketball players!!!

This drills are excellent and very useful when trying to score after offensive rebounds.
I'm impressed, coach.
This is a great video and drill. I incorporated it in the workouts with my children. They found it to helpful and it showed them different options with the ball.
Thank you for sharing this video. It helps on many different levels
I will be teaching my kids these drills this year!

I definitely thought this was a travel until I paid close attention. The jump stop allows us to choose our pivot foot. Thanks coach!

Good drill coach this is the basic fundamental that young kids in this era are lacking

im working on my footwork nice vid for some stuff to know
Correct me if I'm wrong, but once you jump stop, you forfeit a pivot foot. So you're jump stop step drill is teaching kids to travel.
38 haters with dislikes, smh, great work coach
do you ever come to the dallas area to workout people Coach Bo Bell? If so, I would love to get a workout in.
Thanks Coach

i need to get back traning with this dude.
Man, i'd really love to work with coach bell
its a good thing NBA has evolved or the jump stop would be an up and down

you must jump off 1 foot and land on 2 in order to perform a proper jump stop. These guys are traveling in this drill. Am I missing something?

Bad drill!!

Must jump off both feet once you jump stop
usually walking coach. they need to spin pivot on the ball of their foot. a lot of hopping with the pivot foot.
U obviously can't do it in a game but the footwork is the key. Without footwork u never progress
preparing for the future of travel
ball must be at the hip level for triple threat position.
You only need to watch Zion play to see how devastating the jump stop is.
jump stop defence not in a good position to take on the offence
the first guy is doing travelling all the time !! and the coach dont say anything ,,,
Yo this is lavar ball
lebron does this during games...lol j/k good footwork training
It's me
most refs will call a travel on the jump stop step
that's what I thought too. I see it happen during my kids tournament team games.
They call it because either the player lifts the pivot foot or jumps off it, instead of jumping off both feet. If the pivot foot leaves the ground at anytime, it's a travel, unless you're jump off both.
that's because most refs don't know the game of basketball, just wish they did lol
bulls shit.
