    Woolie! You learned how to play high-speed fighting games on an arcade stick, the single steepest learning curve for a control scheme in all of video-games, AS A CHILD! Just fucking play with a mouse and keyboard, you'll be bad for a week, then you'll be normal like everyone else. CHRIST

      Someone who plays fighting games talking about how they can't keep their fingers on WASD is literally one of the most hysterical things I've heard.

    • @ronyncato7206
      @ronyncato7206 7 лет назад +4

      Yeah... because keyboard keys and arcade stick buttons are exactly the same size, distribution and among a large number of other buttons.

    Reminds me of playing Tie Fighter via Dosbox and one-handing a ps3 controller as a makeshift joystick while using my free hand to operate all the keyboard keys. Works surprisingly well.

    They actually make a little joystick thing for the wasd keys. You literally just pop it on top.

      David Lewis they also have this third party mouse/keypad thing with an analog stick. I've been trying to get me one because it feels good and it's pretty cool

    I wanted to play TF2 on the PC with a xbox controller for back in 2011, but there wasn't proper support, and I could not look up or down with my wired controller. 5 years later, I'm happy I was forced to learn mouse and keyboard. I get the set up Woolie has, but competitive PC gaming should never on a couch, unless in a recliner with a table for the mouse, sorry man.

    At the end they talked about watching competitive. I remember when ESPN/2? got CS:GO matches on TV and it was wild having my father watch that. Legitimately mightve been the first time he'd seen a competitive shooter in any way that wasn't a random snippet over my shoulder in Battlefield 3 in like 2 decades. And he was earnestly not sure how to handle it. Like that thing where, your legs want to move, but your brain says to stay? He was kinda in that weird left/right lean shift where he didnt know what to comment because it was exciting and too fast commentary wise, but it was fast enough to keep him invested. That was an interesting moment for me.

    To think, all this messing around trying to find a setup Woolie thinks is right for him, he probably would've gotten used to WASD in the same amount of time.

    Using a mouse and half-controller is actually a pretty good setup. On a keyboard you're limited to 8 directions of movement, or double that if one uses the rare 8-button layout. But if you play a game that lacks the need for many buttons, but also requires some smoother player control as well as camera control, a control stick is always a better option. Not just because you have free range of movement, but also varying degrees of power too. You can tiptoe and run in easy movements, compared to a PC's toggling separate keys for walking and running.

    Man, keyboard controls work for some games, but not for others. Like, I can use a keyboard for most of my games, but for some I NEED a controller.
    On the other hand, a lot of people play Binding of Isaac on PC with a controller, and I call those people insane. Probably just force of habit though, for me.

      Lord Dread Raven My general rule of thumb is Mouse and Keyboard for FPSes and Strategy Games/MMOs with tons of hotkeys, and Controller for Platformers and other action games where precise directions in movement are important. I'd call anyone who used a Keyboard for Cuphead insane, just as I would someone using a Controller for Overwatch.

    I actually know a guy that does what woolie does for some games. not only that but he refuses to acknowledge that mouse and keyboard is objectively better on overwatch WHILE partaking in this blasphemy

  • @tehMothMan

    I used to play WoW with the arrows keys, when I started playing pc games. Shit was dumb wasd is the way to go. Pats right just practice using them, it only took me a few hours to learn where all my buttons were.

    Just get some hardback textbooks from a thrift shop and get a big box hardware store to cut a finished board to length. Stack the books outside your thighs, lay the board on top, boom you got a desk

    lol google is telling me this is the episode woolie says the snowpiercer comic sucks but i will counter that by saying that anyone who thought the second half of snowpiercer was fucking ridiculous should read the comic because its completely different and has more tits even if it ALSO falls apart in the second half

  • @NinjaRed5000

    they have this mouse/keypad combination thing that has an analog stick for movement. It works great with mouse, it'll probably work for movement. I can sympathize with Woolies dislike of keyboard controls. though for me I can't stand keyboard and mouse controls because it fills me with anxiety and dread of having to write up a term paper or something. so yeah for me keyboard and mouse is work, and I can't play a game comfortably without a pad or fightstick, unless I have that apparatus I mentioned earlier.

    Also TFGH vastly superior to WASD. I mean you can't even reload and strafe right in a default setup, and your one free finger (pinky) is wasted on caps lock and a giant shift key. But TFGH, man, you've got ASDZXC all in easy reach of that extra finger. Just make sure to disable your trackpad if you're on a laptop...

  • @DuelistRL
    @DuelistRL 7 лет назад +1

    WASD is the fucking worst for anything other than simple input games. Pretending that it's a replacement for a D-Pad or Control Stick is a joke. If you use it fine but I'll never understand how anybody is content with that. Playing a game like Hotline Miami for example was a fucking nightmare.

      I beat Hotline 4 times with keyboard, and once with a controller, and I totally prefer keyboard. Just for the aiming.

      Are you better at aiming with WASD? I should mention I've only played a few games like that and I would take to much to get used to haha. I love using a mouse to aim though it's fantastic.
