    I had the weirdest childhood in terms of games. My first games were Tekken 3 and Gran Turismo because that's what my dad played, but I was like 7 so I like them but really didn't grasp them. The first game that really grasped me was my dad's feind let me play Mario Kart 64, and thus I asked for a 64 for Christmas. So for a while I was a Nintendo fanboy... kind of. Cause i asked for a GameCube when it was first shown, but my paretns got me a PS2 because they wanted me to have a DVD player but knew I wnated games too. So I played PS2 but really only played PS1 games like Tekken and Gran Turismo. I wasn't interested in Final Fantasy at all for some reason even though I love it now. Next year I got a GameCube, played it for the longest and started to ignore PS2 for a while. Then Kingdom Hearts came out, then Psychoanust came out. Those were my main PS2 games.

I wouldn't assume so much about them based on that *first ever,* we all had to start somewhere, and they're really not that embarrassing compared to some other choices; people their past selves, others' younger lives and kids in general way too hard.

    The Dreamcast and Xbox are fine to go back to, but actually owning one sucked a good chunk of the time. Stores tended to have much smaller seletions for those two, especially the Dreamcast. Yeah, there were cool cult classics, but they were nonexistent on store shelves after a bit. You could definitely get a copy of Alien Front Online, Sonic Adventure, Samba de Amigo, and 2K sports games because they'd have a million each of those.

    my family had the NES when I was too young to hold a controller, then I have distinct memories of playing Barbie on SNES and watching my brother scream at M. Bison on Super SF 2. after a brief disastrous flirtation with the Dreamcast, we switched to Sony for the main consoles, but that’s where my brother and I split loyalties re: handhelds; he had the Vita and PSP, while I went through every Gameboy and DS (except the 3DS). he most recently jumped back to Nintendo with the Switch, and now we’re both PC gamers. I think it ultimately came down to portability; I spent four hours a day on mass transit, and my brother spent the majority of his adult life on Naval ships, so it was just easier.

    Really weird hearing Liam praise Mario Land 2 over Mario Land 1, when my reaction is exactly the opposite. I adore Mario Land as a fundamental part of my childhood, and the fact that the "sequel" chose to throw away most of the unique design elements that define the game so that it could be a weaker version of Mario World.

    Ugh, my fanboy phases were so horribly misguided...first Sony PS2 and Nintendo DS/GBA because it was all I knew, it transferred to Nintendo 64/GameCube/Wii and Mario, then PS3/Sonic/Gran Turismo which I get but it was still elitist and insufferable, but even by then that was up to 2011 as I started to mature, and I never made accounts or put up comments ever, only getting into a fight on a Roblox chat once, which I still regret and hate, but it was 2009 and I was hot-headed and my passion was misdirected. For an elementary school kid with relative freedom online at that time I could have done infinitely worse. Finally a certain religion, political stance or two, and race drivers in and around 2012-2015, but I started to grow up and understand...except that I was still a fanboy, just with political ideologies/parties in through 2016-2017, then I tried to mostly get off posting on social media from 2018 onward to stop my loudmouthing, wishy-washy hypocrisy. Now I feel a lot more justified but at least self-aware of the political-philosophical fanboyisms I have as of now...but holy fuck, my video game fanboy-isms were rough. Ugh, bless my younger self, he was doing his best, I forgive him, he was misled and trying his best, but I'm glad he mostly was on the right track sooner or later.

    • @joshuabernardo4305
      @joshuabernardo4305 7 лет назад +19

      Pip IV Jak and Sly were strictly platformers. Ratchet and Clank was a level up in the genre. By introducing weapons into platforming, combat wasn't limited to close quarters. It added a shmup aspect to an already successful genre. Later iterations of the game took advantage of its near-perfect controls and was unofficially the first series to birth what is now known as "horde mode". All 3 are great games, but R&C stands in a sub-genre of its own.

    • @tailedgates9
      @tailedgates9 7 лет назад +8

      We can at least agree that all 3 platformers are masterpieces and deserve more care and attention than 80% of other franchises. :D lol

    I am, and will always be, a huge fan of Nintendo. growing up from 1992 onward my older sister and I would play in the NES all the time, but around 96-97 I was introduced to the PlayStation when my sister got it. From there I was introduced to Crash Bandicoot, Spyro, and Tomb Raider. From there my interest in PlayStation began, but I was still a Nintendo fanboy. I think a few months to a year later I got the N64 and I got the best of both worlds. I later got the GameCube and remained a Nintendo fan for the longest, even forgoing the PS2 thanks to SSB Melee and Super Mario Sunshine, but my PlayStation fanboyism began to return when the PS2 had Tekken Tag Tournament and 5, Devil May Cry and Metal Gear Solid 2 and 3. Since then I've regretted not getting a PS2. It was when the Wii and PSP was released when I actually wanted to get a PS3 because of Tekken 6 (at the time there was no word of it coming for the Xbox 360). so I got the Wii and later the PS3. since then I've been a dual Nintendo and PlayStation fan. And yes that also means I don't care about Xbox (not too many exclusives, Halo lost ist steam when 4 was released, never like Gears, and Killer Instinct came out on PC)

      Nintendo gets ridiculed now for "making the same game 15 times" because their most creative ideas (like Sunshine) are the most hated. You're allowed to not like it, and I like it but agree on many problems, but honestly I'd rather they attempt different things like it than give us Mario 64 2. Galaxy was cool and all, but mechanically felt too safe and, heck, was very linear, which Mairo 64 definitely wasn't, so meh I don't get it.

    OoT is okay at best, MM is the best Zelda imo. Sunshine is better than 64 but at first I didn't like it. After going back to both games I can confrim Sunshine is better. Sly Cooper is lit af. I assume none of these guys played Spyro, which was good better than Banjo and especially better than Banjo Tooie. Jak and Daxter suck, Pat is right Rachet and Clank were great. Spyro 2 though, that was good. Never played Spyro 3, gotta do that some time soon. Winder Waker is also better than OoT just took all the man children crying over the art style a few years to realize it.
