The Ugly Truth About Lip Service on Social Media

Reflecting on my own journey with a community project, I explore how our actions often don't match our words especially when it comes to social media. The Quranic verse, "Allah will not change the Affairs of the people until they change what is within themselves," becomes central to understanding this inner transformation.
It's very easy to talk on social media. I know I'm being hypocritical by saying this very thing on a social media platform myself but we really need to start looking inward and recognise that its easy to create the appearance of sincerity and determination for any given truth, cause or idea but living that in our day to day lives is a completely different story, because talk is cheap and social media is very much an amplifier of talk.
In this video I share an example of a non-profit project I worked on where I really learned this lesson and then I also give the example of Palestine -- and not to take anything from their suffering, at all -- but Allah has chosen to test them with grave suffering because they are far more worthy of that test than we are living comfortably in the West where all we have to do is share a post on social media to express our support. Turning up somewhere where our life is at real risk or taking a risk that could affect our livelihood in grave ways is a completely different story and that's where social media makes it easy for us to pretend and offer our lip service to any given cause while we make no real change or sacrifice in our daily lives which is where it really matters.
It's time we stopped just talking and started acting. The real test of sincerity isn't in what we post online but how we live our lives offline. Maybe it's the small, everyday changes that matter most. From British Muslims striving for peak performance to addressing religious manipulation, we all need to do the hard work within ourselves before we can make a genuine impact on the world.
