Dummy did get a classic review so it seems unlikely in the near future but Third is my personal favorite so I def wouldn't complain
The song The Rip on Portisheads Third album is one of the most heartbreaking songs of all time.
There is a great live version of threads from that album on RUclips
Third is definitely the best Portishead album imo - wish it got more attention, as it generally overshadowed by Dummy

Until last year when I first listened to Mr. Morale, I had never heard of Beth or Portishead. Now, I'm absolutely obsessed. She's truly magnificent. A 10/10 for me
Portishead is amazing, perfect discography. I feel like people don't talk about Third as much as Dummy or Self Titled, but it grew into my favorite release of theirs. This new Beth Gibbons album is a rare treat.

What an album. I did not expect to be so emotionally wrecked by it, the album dives into some heavy emotional themes about aging, love, loss and just life itself, with some really sad and gorgeous melodies and string arrangements. I think I learned a lot from it, being 28 right now, this album taught me to really savior youth and be present in every experience because there will come a time when everything has changed, many of the people we know and love will not be there in the future, and the love for people who will still be there may not be the same either. Masterpiece.
Beth has become one of my favourite artists of all time, I think it is truly fantastic the way she employs her artistry. It goes really beyond my conception of greatness.

I loved this album so much. The acoustic mood, the chords changes, and obviously her voice. I also couldn't help but think about talk talk's laughing stock
Her discography (Portishead and solo) is like John Cazale's filmography. Lean but perfect.

@@riccardobasilico5466 I hear you, I was a 2020 subscriber and it felt like history was being made when we got almost back-to-back 10s on The Turning Wheel and SINNER GET READY in 2021. This got a completely involuntary "damn" out of me the second I heard "the only track that didn't really do it for me.." because it really felt like a 10 was coming until then. It's been a good year for music though; I hope you get to see one soon.

The combination of the incredible singles and Beth's spotless track record made this my most anticipated album of the year. I was worried that I set myself up for disappointment with how high my expectations were, but somehow this album still exceeded them. What a beautiful album
You can tell how much immense respect he has for everyone behind this project
I love that Beth worked with Kendrick and DOOM on what I reckon are their deepest songs. I will check this out sometime
She gives such an immense emotional depth to anything she touches.
I'm just so happy not only abt this album which is already so dear to me but also the way Beth has been promoting it and seems so joyful with all of that (for us portishead fans it isn't that usual). I really feel it has a matureness to it that reflects her and this moment of her life.

Should've been the first 10 of the year. It's their most coherent project both thematically and sonically. It finds a way to work within the conventions of its genre while still pushing the envelope. The production is diamond crisp, and the lyrics are the best they've written in years. I don't understand how you could just give this a 9.
giving an album 10 right after release is pretty crazy. Time does the mind good. Recency bias is real. I always rate things with the idea it can go +/- 1 over time

Never cared for Portishead that much i have to confess. But to me "Out Of Season" is a timeless masterpiece i never obsessed with but also never got tired of and is a constant staple of my musical life. Looks like it's gonna be the same with the new album. Beth Gibbons is the queen of timelesness. Pretty ironic considering the main theme of the album. A 10 for me if there ever was one.
This album is basically a serious contender for Album of the year. It's beautifully Amazing from start to the last song.

I legitimately thought this was going to be his album of the year, then he dropped a 10 on BRAT.
Floating on a Moment is one if the best songs of the year by far. The melody on it reminds me of The Rip.
I listened to whispering love while trekking through my college campus (there's a lot of nature and it was early in the morning), and it was magical, like i was floating on a moment
Checked their group's "Dummy" album, and I struggle to believe that it's the same person HELP LMFAO!!!

This is quite a relaxing album... This album has taken me to a great journey, and the lyricisms are great. The instrumentations, especially the strings, are great. There are some parts that have similar vibes with Jessica Pratt's new work and I like it. It has a decent opener track, and a magnificent closer.
The first song on her last album "Mysteries" is such an important song to me, I'm so excited to hear this album.
3:17 "Entrancing" is a pretty good word to describe Beth Gibbons' music in general.

I really wanted to love it…but it’s quite one dimensional, with little variety. I think because it’s Beth it’s good, but I can’t help to think that if it wasn’t Beth, we wouldn’t be talking about it anywhere near as much. It’s a good 7.

I idn't expect that kind of heart destroying, Portishead level (or maybe even better) album, from Beth's solo work. I'm grateful to her for that experience. For me it's the best album of the year.
I have listened to it multiple times and I am still processing it. This is usually a good sign that this will be a timeless classic album in my mind.
Our girl is almost 60 and she may have dropped one of her best projects yet. True talent is ageless

We need a review of any of the broken view albums (newest is my personal fav) I found them through a mutual friend recently so so underrated there’s music in there for everyone’s taste. The lead singers voice is astounding very close to Chester Bennington.

my comment about the opener is that i feel like this album clearly feels like its supposed to build up with more and more interesting ideas, with the last few tracks clearly being the most intricate, so it would make a lot of sense for the opener to be meandering and not as clear what it wants to say than the rest of the record, but i think it sets the tone of the album really well
it sets the tone, but honestly that doesn't fully recover the track imo.
I like it alot, wish it was a bit more experimental, but that's just me.
It still amazes me that May really gave us 3 AOTY contender plus one of the best diss track OAT (meet the grahams) so far; Knocked Loose, Billie Eilish (idc what fantano said) and this one right here 😮💨
