While color isn't my thing, the craftsmanship and the wood are impeccable. To please everyone is impossible, but you adding color shows you care to do different things. Great job!
I can remember when I made my first lamp in woodshop in middle school. I used the very same burn in trick to add character. I thought it was the coolest, burning without fire. This video brought back amazing memories. Thanks for the stroll down memory lane. Blessings to you RH from AS, in Jesus name, amen
Don’t worry about comments. I don’t leave one for a response. I leave one to let you know that I appreciate you and your creative spirt. It helps me learn. Thank you! This piece by the way, awesome!
Loved how the coin looked in that gorgeous flame maple bowl. The movement of the grain is so fascinating. So much beauty is hidden in wood. Who would ever guess?
Beautiful bowl. I used to work at a cabinet company, and I would just drool over some of the maple and cherry doors that drilled hinge holes in. Always enjoy learning about a different way of finishing something other than using the same thing again and again. Have a blessed NEW YEAR.
That grain just sparkles as it moves. It's so cool! And don't undersell yourself! I've seen a lot of woodturners on here and in my modest and purely spectatorly opinion you're one of the best!
A wonderful piece of wood Rod. I have done a little bit of colouring and at first I was quite reluctant but it does produce some great results. I don't enter many competitions at my woodturning club but listen to many of the critiques of the judges. An even thickness of the base and sides of a bowl is paramount in their thinking. That's a wonderful gift of the coins. 110K subs and rising. Semper Fi, Alan.
Rod the wood is gorgeous and also your work is just as beautiful you don't give yourself justice, also I love the coins fairplay to the lady who made them for you they look fantastic 👍👍👍
that is gorgeous wood, and you've dun good! what you call "movement" in the wood is precisely that hard-to-describe thing that caused me to fall in love with mahogany.
Flame Maple is one of my favorite woods. You are so talented sir. Even if you didn't say it I would be able to tell that you were in the military. Articulate, decisive, and attention to detail. I can spot it in a second. Great job, happy New year, and thank you for your service, Semper Fi, Jimmy
I kinda found your channel as I was surfing...I was intrigued and stuck with it to the end.... My son is an in-active Marine.... (never call him a 'former' Marine) I love your work and look forward to seeing more... And thank you for your service to our blessed country.
Rod good afternoon to you and God's blessings for you and your family a thousand fold for 2020. This wood took my breath away the the fire or chatoyance as you call it is magnificent spectacular and awesome. It is good to see you work again heald and healthy.
Rod, you're correct that the wood is amazing, but so is your craftsmanship. Knowing how wild that grain is, it is an achievement to get it looking like you did. Happy new year and blessings to you in 2020.
Happy New Year, Rod! Thanks for sharing this! I've never colored wood before, but you're inspiring me to try it some time. You'd never know that there was tearout in the grain on that piece. You have such delicate and careful skills with the gouge. I am so impressed! I've got lots to learn!!!
That flame is fantastic. Such a good choice for the burn and colouring. I can't speak for everyone, but I completely understand about getting caught up and then, RL happening and back at it. Hugs from Halifax
Another great creation. It is great to see that even after you have done so many projects there are still many new things to do. Keep up the great videos!
Flame Maple is really an amazing wood which personally I wouldn't have stained, I think it stands on its own beauty and doesn't need to be messed with too much however I do love the beading and the burnt lines. Sorry to be so negative and this is just an opinion. Hope 2020 brings you good health and happiness.
I don't take your comment as negative at all, I appreciate the feedback! My hope was the contrast between the outside and inside would make that grain glow and move all the more, and I think it worked to a degree... it's like the bowl is full while being empty. But I understand, thank you.
Really beautiful design, and the grain of that bowl just pops. This is just a personal preference, but I’ve never cared for painting wood or ‘artificial looking’ stains. That said, your work on this one shows in the final product. If you get another piece of wood like this, an intricate design like this as a trinket box would be really lovely.
I was trying to think of something really profound to say but "STUNNING" just about covers it. What a beautiful bowl, Love the grain pattern. Hollowing insides of bowls is my current nemesis so have made a mental note of the finesse you use and I will practice that a lot more Thank you
Thank you Buster! It took me a while to gain the "light touch" but that's what really helps me. I just practiced making different sized shavings, thick down to hair sized, on the same wood, and then learned to twist the gouge a bit more to avoid catches during a bottom sweep.
I didn't think I was going to like this bowl when you started putting that yellow on it, but I'm man enough to admit when I'm wrong. Why did I ever doubt your ability to bring out the beauty in any project? Keep up the gorgeous work. Semper Fi! 🦅🌎⚓
I absolutely love this bowl, I love the burned lines. Red is my favorite color but I’m not sure I love it on this bowl. I’m betting it looks much better in person.
Welcome to 2020! You kicked off the new year with a bang! I love flame maple, and you have a great eye for finding the art hidden in the wood. Semper Fi brother.
Breathtaking! Don't worry about comments. I am behind in watching my videos. My dad passed away November 30th and I have just been devastated. That being said, you sir, do amazing work. 😊
Nice job sir. Who ever says that there is no God just is not paying attention to all of the beautiful things that he makes, that wood is just spectacular.
Beautiful bowl !!! Love the grain pattern. Great pieces sent in by your subscriber. What a generous gift of signature coins. Happy, Healthy New Year to you and your family. God bless.
Hi Rod, WOW COLOUR!!!! That is a fantastic bowl. The outside looks amazing and then the piece gives up its secret as you look inside and that flame just shines. Great work Rod. Cheers, Huw
LOVE your craftsmanship !! Great design and the coloring just makes it pop ! I just got a lathe and hope I can turn something that won't blow up on me. At 63, things aint as easy as they used to be. Thanks for the great video !
It's very much appreciated that you didn't want the free stuff, but pushed for the discount code. It really shows what kind of a person you are.
Much appreciated! Honestly, i didn't need to push for it though It was offered 😊
While color isn't my thing, the craftsmanship and the wood are impeccable. To please everyone is impossible, but you adding color shows you care to do different things. Great job!
Thank you very much! So true. I knew I'd get beat up a bit for it, but it was worth it to me.
Beautiful bowl. I like the red and gold colors.
Thanks very much!

Thank you Adam! It really is fun to use those wires... 😊🔥
Beautifully done! The colored stain on the outside with the polished wood on the inside was absolutely the right thing to do. Well done.
Thanks very much! I'm glad you saw and appreciated the contrast! I'm getting beat up for it, lol...
Great job! I like the wire for burning the wood, it's simple and effective.
Thanks so much!
Without your work, the wood wouldn't look like that--beautiful!
You're very kind, thank you!
I really like that candy bowl. I even like the colors. I didn't think I liked colored wood. Well now I do!!
Don’t worry about comments. I don’t leave one for a response. I leave one to let you know that I appreciate you and your creative spirt. It helps me learn. Thank you! This piece by the way, awesome!
I appreciate that Melissa!
Loved how the coin looked in that gorgeous flame maple bowl. The movement of the grain is so fascinating. So much beauty is hidden in wood. Who would ever guess?
Thank you very much!
I wish I had your God given talent, your hands are truly blessed & your voice is very calming
You're very kind, Erica, thank you!
You can still see the grain shine through the paint as well gorgeous wood! Amazing job too
Thank you very much!
Once again, I love it! You are right. There is so much movement in the wood. It's truly amazing. Another gorgeous project!
Thank you very much!
Beautiful bowl. I used to work at a cabinet company, and I would just drool over some of the maple and cherry doors that drilled hinge holes in. Always enjoy learning about a different way of finishing something other than using the same thing again and again. Have a blessed NEW YEAR.
Thanks very much, Harry! It is good to experiment... I'm not to fond of this water based stain though... at least not yet.
Nice work. nice wood. I think the wood is so nice that the wood don't need the color on it, the color theek all the beauty of the wood.
That grain just sparkles as it moves. It's so cool! And don't undersell yourself! I've seen a lot of woodturners on here and in my modest and purely spectatorly opinion you're one of the best!

Beautiful wood and wonderful work from your hands. Thanks for sharing your God-given talent and knowledge about woods with us.
It looks amazing! And it came with a character with the colouring. Beautiful.
The bowl is "Outstanding" , And thanks for showcasing some of my work.

Rod the wood is gorgeous and also your work is just as beautiful you don't give yourself justice, also I love the coins fairplay to the lady who made them for you they look fantastic 👍👍👍
