The best Ibanez video out there fellows! been in the industry 33 years this video is precise, quick all history of these models! Thanks for the video now my nephew understands what I was trying to explain the Ibanez RG series.
At one point, some rumors had said the ibanez RG was named after Rocky George, guitarist of Thrash/Hardcore band Suicidal Tendencies. Rocky was primarily a Ibanez player during the start of metal era of the band in 1987 and was soon endorsed by Ibanez in the late 80's or early 90's too. The rumors of the RG's being named after rocky happened to not be true unfortunately :( Rocky George is still an underrated player, still playing Ibanez to this day.
New sub! Killer video, I love the RG series! The '87 RG 550 in Desert Sun Yellow is forever the most iconic "metal" guitar in my most humble opinion. I look forward to more interesting, informative and down right cool vids! Rock on! \m/
Great stuff, man. Recently ordered my first Ibanez in a J.Custom RG8570z so i'm reading up on all things Ibanez and this did the trick haha! Cheers, man!
I picked up an original RG760 17 years ago, listed on ebay in the wrong category, so I was the only bidder. The best 250 quid I've ever spent. I paid 300 to have it refretted with steel frets and I've not looked at another guitar since. amazing guitars.
Got RG760 dated 1992: my father hard worked in a mine at that time and took a 4 Years loan to pay the guitar. I have direct mounted humbucker. It was so expensive for me that she left the house only 4 times to make some recordings. Still in like new condition will be passed to my only Son who is 3YO now.
My 1st guitar back in 1990 was an RG750 - really inspired me to learn. Still have it to this day in great condition. Picked up an RG760 a couple of years ago as a backup & love it too.
I think you're right about the Roadstar Guitar being the origin of the RG moniker. I can remember them being about in the mid 80's and seeing adverts in the guitar magazines for them. In 1985 Casio made a MIDI guitar that was so similar to the Roadstar (even the headstock) and I later found out that they were made in the same Fujigen factory as Ibanez. I got my first RG550 in 1987, it was white with a black headstock. Loved it to bits but sold it to fund another guitar. I then got a Jem 77FP in the 90's and it was hands down the best guitar I've ever owned. I sadly don't have it any longer but I was so impressed by all the reviews of the Genesis reissues that I bought one and it's due for delivery soon. Great video and interesting too.
One correction. the Older RGs didn't use 1 piece necks. They were at least two pieces with a scarf joint that attached the headstock and later they began adding the bubinga "skunk Stripe".
back in the day Charvel was putting out some cool neon colored rock machines before Ibanez. I remember the first time seeing one in neon pink, a buddy had it and i was like wow! The neon colors back in the 80's went with the wild look of everything back then. It was a great time to be alive and live through as a young man.
I ain't no excuse for a shredder, but I have not only my own RG, but also one of the EX series guitars that predated and opened the door for Ibanez' Korean-built RGs. They had cheap hardware, but have provided good bones for me to mod onto, and I have! They now have brass and steel Floyds and they ROCK!
I didn't get why people harp on about Ibanez but then I decided to buy a gorgeous 2008 rg2550z and it is perfect. The only little complaint I have is the trem bar design (I think gotoh does the best one) but everything else is perfect. The recessed edge zero trem is so comfortable and I almost feel like I'm playing a guitar with a standard trem. The neck is incredible as well.
My first real guitar was in 89’ a Ibanez RG 570 (JB), then bought a (white) RG 470 DX in 97’ from a friend for two bills, finally I ordered my 20’ Ibanez RG 550 (NP) “Genesis” and have never been happier to find RG series! #Ibanez#RG#570#470DX#550#🎸❤️🔥🤘🏻
Nice overview but you got your Trems confused at one point. Original Edge from 1987. Lo Pro from 1991. Edge Pro replaced both 2003-2009. The OG Edge & Lo Pro returned in 2010 (to the relief of many) folowing expiry of Floyd Rose Patents. Current J Customs tend to either use the Edge Zero or Edge Lo Pro.
I like buying parts off ebay and putting my own RG's together. I have a Jackson and a Les Paul but my RG's are far and away my faves. I use Floyd Rose Specials and V8 S1 V7 pu's.
Very comprehensive history. I recently found an RG450EXB IM thinking of grabbing it. I don't know if you covered that line here though. I heard they're like store exclusives (?).
good info, but you have angry guitar face, do women like that when you play guitar for them or do you do a different face? I get it, I make different faces when I dance or even sex, I totally get it.... A concentration thing maybe...Please don't block me I have social Q issues

I started playing guitar 3 weeks ago and I choose the black open pore Ibanez RGRT421 as my starter. I freaking love it!
Dang that’s sick!
I have the same guitar and it is a beast🤘

@@nikaxeguitar Sure thing, man!
Waste of money: today's woods are thinner than these 30 Years ago due pollution. Indonesia,or Japan doesn't matter-hard to build good stuff of poo
killer history lesson - thank you dude! FU+CKING LOVE Ibanez - my favorite guitar brand

Frankly, I'd take the Genesis neck over those original RG550's. The scarf joint on my JPM P4 started to come apart after 20 years or so.
@@nicholastotoro7721 yeah the newer necks are so much better.

Just bought my first guitar a RG450ex. I was happy when a guitar player friend of mine called dibs on it cause he loved the way it played.

Don't forget the USA Custom guitars of the late 80's through the mid 90's before the custom shop was moved to Japan.

Oh wow!! Thanks for that correction man! Appreciate it.
I've got an RG550 20th in all black under my bed. Almost brand new!
my first guitar was a RG321MH. Very basic, but exactly what I needed to play some drop tuned nu metal haha. Ibanez rulez!

I’ve never even heard of those! I appreciate the knowledge my man. I’ll look into it
I'm between a 550 from '89 and '97 or a pgm 300, which one would you recommend I buy?
they should make more white RG550s
why only that one limited while they keep making yellow red purple
RG550 in purple neon is probably going to be my next guitar. That or a RG1127 7 string. I don't think Ibanez is making the rg1127 anymore.
The Genesis series is the best guitar series right now hand down. Way too much power for the commoners at that insane price, from Japan....
Yessir!
i have that grg131ex and man for 250 dollars brand new its crazy good and its a reverse headstock
This is dope
Word
Man, I wish they had kept the white one in production. I love my DSY but every time I see a white one I get GAS all over again
I have always thought that "RG" just came from "Rock Guitar".
Wonder why the went v7 V8 instead of v1 v2 that 550s usually came with
Make a video of the Ibanez Voyager RBM.
I have a 92 rt and I must say that it’s the best guitar I have.
RG: Road Gem.
Is that true?! That would be awesome
@@nikaxeguitar Road-ster, Road-star, Road-Gem? I don't know but it would make sense. And yes, it would be awesome.
You know what. 90% guitar woods all around the world comes from Indonesia🇮🇩. Best quality
The 777 looks to me like the guys from Nintendo showed up and made suggestions.
I love my rgt hrg2
Hell yeah! Does it have the typical art work and finish on it?
@@nikaxeguitar HR Giger sure does
Can someone do an Ibanez history video w/o talking about Vai ?
🤔
I am saving money up for a 1991 RG760 made in Japan with 3 di marzo pickups and a better version of Floyd Rose
Dude!!! Tell me how it is when you get it. Dream guitar!
RG=ROCK GUITAR!!
I thought for years 'RG' stood for Rock Guitar :)
I have a a early 90s RG550, I think it desperately needs a pickup replacement. It has the original Ibanez pickups the seem kinda dull.
RG=rock guitar. Fight me!
Very cool video. One thing, the Gio is pronounced "jee-yo", not spelled out like RG is :)
Roadstar + gem = rg?
Dang that could be it!!
Thought rg stood for road gear??
No mention of the 7 string RGs...
Isn't this just the Jem without the Vai-isms?
The rg340 is pretty soiled for a budget guitar to

I've never heard anyone call basswood for bass(the fish)wood, rather than basewood.
Oh shoot! Is that how you pronounce it? My bad!
That's the correct pronunciation, basswood, like the fish
@@JesseAdamsMusic Yeah, always thought it was pronounced like the fish.
It is Basswood . Bass is Bass . Base is Base (1st base , 2nd base , 3rd base) Good Times 😁✌
It's basswood (like the fish).
