The reason seven string guitars have a low B (which is still repeating the same string intervals btw) is because a high A string breaks very easily at tension. Hey Dagan, good work, Geordie to Geordie, just to add that they first arrived in the UK in the 70s via distributor CS Summerfield of Gateshead, only a short walk over the bridge from PMT's Newcastle shop and were first sold I believe only at Jeavons Music (long gone) on Newcastle's Percy Street 🙂 They also sold them as CSL guitars. All the best.
My Ibanez is alive. You can feel it 'fizz' and vibrate as you play it. The neck feels alive when you play it. I didn't like it at first, but now it seems almost magical. I got my first Ibanez about 6 months ago and it's an RG 550 from the year 2000 and it's black with a chrome pick guard and I have to say this guitar is absolutely stunning, it work of art, best guitar I have ever laid my hands on, and the sound is unbelievable for passive pickups I wouldn't even think it was possible if I hadn't heard it myself. "RG" stands for "Roadstar Guitar", not Roadster. The Roadster models were basses, that then became Roadstar basses, before being supplanted by the Roadgear, then SoundGear lines, which ultimately is now just called an SR.

I didnt know this until the other day, having an RG for several years. Then today discovered that S stands for Saber! Stop with the letters and get with the catchy names that make people foolishly part with their money! Oh and more cool green patterns !
@@TheCulnes Ibanez had to change the name of the Saber, because Ernie Ball/Music Man already had a line with the same name (I think theirs were basses). Fender had to change the name of the Broadcaster to Telecaster because a drum company had a line with that name, I think it was Ludwig. I do agree with you on using catchy names. I love the falchion, halberd, glaive, & xiphos names (they are all medieval weapons).
Already had an AM93 Artcore which is amazing and just bought an AZ. It was either the Strat pro II or the AZ and although I love the Strat sound, I think the AZ is more "the full package" and goes beyond what Fender offers.
I bought an Ibanez SG in 1978. The headstock logo was a bit obscure to read and I was mispronouncing it for several years. Plugged in to my Super Reverb I didn't care what the name was - 'twas brutal
In the 90s all my favorite bands played sdgr basses. I got my first brand new in 1999 it’s an sr405 all maple body. Great tone I played it in jazz band and jazz choir in high school for lots of gigs and competitions. Took it on tour with my metal band many times. The case has to many flight tags on it the only bass I’ve ever had new (thanks mom I love and miss you) it still looks great and plays/sounds awesome although is has a replacement neck and volume pot the truss rod nut stripped and pot died. Not bad for a daily driver for over 20 years!
Dagan, I was under the impression that RG meant "Rockstar Guitar", as Ibanez had such a line that, like you said, was discontinued. If I'm wrong, sorry. Tony Iommi of Black Sabbath wanted and got 24-fret guitars, but I believe that he had to purchase a guitar company before he could get anyone to make such guitars for him; everyone else said (erroneously, of course) that it was impossible. My favorite Ibanez guitars are (unsurprisingly) the ones I actually own: A 1991 EX370 with 22 frets, a full-size neck heel block and an H-S-H pickup set, and a 2001 RG220B with 24(!) frets, their AANJ (All-Access Neck Joint) neck joint, and an H-H pickup set. The runner up would be one I never got, though I tried. That was a 70s Musician Series MC500. If memory serves, this was a beautiful neck-through guitar with 24 frets, 2 humbuckers with switches that provided full-humbucker, out-of-phase humbucker and coil-split tones, and it looked KILLER with the maple through neck with dark-stained body wings. Awesome! The problem was that I lived in Germany at the time that these were out, and although I could have gotten one of the lesser Musician Series guitars there, NO ONE was able to get the axe I wanted, and I wasn't settling; I wanted ONLY the full, fat MC500 or nothing! You already know how THAT turned out!😡 Thanks for this video! I really like this brand of guitar. It's killer. Maybe one day Ican actually afford one MADE IN JAPAN!😎❤️️🎸‼️
Don’t forget the I’ll-fated Starfield guitars that were a throw off company of the Ibanez! They’re also good instruments but hard to find. I like the Artcore series very much as well as the late 80s Talmans!
You can see Dave Murray and Adrian Smith playing Ibanez Destroyers live in 1982, The Prisoner. Edward played the Destroyer unmodified for the VH1 album, you can see some pictures of him tracking Jamie's Crying in the studio with it (1977). He never recorded anything else with it after destroying in in 1978.
Without a doubt, my all time favourite Ibanez is the JS10th Chromeboy. I practically drool every time I see it! I do have a JS1CR but it's not the same... the lines are different, and it sounds different with the Sustainiac instead of the PAF Pro. My wee nugget of information is that the Satriani line was originally based on the Saber series, and is shaped like an aerofoil, thinner at the top and thicker at the bottom, to pull it in towards the body.
I own an Ibanez Iceman 400 bought in 2015 for $600. It still is the best sounding guitar I own and my personal favorite. It's deeper tones just put any other models or series I own to shame (like the Ibanez RG321BC, or the B.C .Rich Kerry King Flying V, or the Ibanez RGIF7). Hands down, it plays so well incredibly well that I've looked into just owning two of them to keep at different tunings while selling the rest off.
I have a while Strat Mann guitar, which only recently I found out was an Ibanez, built in 1974. The hardware is all Fender, especially the steel tremolo block. Some sort of Canadian copyright issue.
I have several Ibanez guitars. My all time favorite is SF470, made from 1993-94. There was a 1992 470S. All of these are S models with a hard tail, and a neck scale of 24.75". These play great. I'm not aware of any other S's or RG's that were made with that scale. The SF470 is a unique rocker. I have added push pull pot to mine for additional coil splitting options. Love it.
Firstly, I think your presentations are brilliant. Informative, entertaining and combine great info with an easy going light hearted style. Yup, as the previous comment indicates, RG is Roadstar. I did a brief Ibanez history in a RUclips video (Ibanez RG 350 DX, Indonesia, guitar review) when I was doing a demo of my RG which ended up being owned by Mr Carruthers from Shaft of Steel which can be seen on his FB page. I can’t even play guitar properly but even with that tidbit of fact, I held and fretted/strummed Fender, Gibson, Schecter, a few others. For me, it’s Ibanez. And even if I do find another brand that feels and plays better, I’m still gonna rep Ibby. They just feel good. The neck is what sold me immediately, how it felt and how thin, fast and smooth it is.
There are pictures of Dave Murry of Iron Maiden playing a Humbucker, Single Coil Humbucker Strat in 1982. I have a Jem VBK777 from 1989. It is the only guitar I have every needed (though my brother bought me a Harley Benton Pro Fusion 2 last year) the Jem has been refretted six times, and is so played in, tape doesn't adhere to the neck..so smooth is it. These guitars are just extraordinary. You still feel like you are playing a guitar from the future. The pickups sound terrific. It is worth quite a bit of money now.
True but Andy Scott of The Sweet was playing HSH during the 1970's. I expect many players modded or had custom guitars with the HSH set-up before Vai. Steve Vai is simply credited with the first production HSH model

JEM JR. (yellow)
RG450EXB (pink)
LOVE THEM!
I worshipped Gibson LP's for the first 30+ years of my life. In 2008 I bought an Ibanez Team J Craft Prestige RG2550Z. Instant bond! Its been my number one go to guitar still to this day. My Lp's are just nice wall art these days. Sorry Gibson but we had a good run.
Hey there! I just wanted to thank you a lot for this amazing video, I always want to know more and more about the brand I love. My favorite one right now is the RG320EXZ, I have it, and funny thing is your video about it convinced to buy one, so cheers!
my favorite Ibanez is the SA series, affordable, comfortable, sounds great, looks amazing
I am a S series guy, love the sound and feel
I have owned just about every brand, except Gibson and fender, and my heart is with ibanez, love these guitars
Dave Murry 7 Adrian Smith (Iron Maiden) both played Destroyer's as well. I have a '79 ST-200 first model after the lawsuit years and it's awesome!!
Just got my first electric guitar.. ibanez rga42fml so stoked
My Ibanez is alive. You can feel it 'fizz' and vibrate as you play it. The neck feels alive when you play it. I didn't like it at first, but now it seems almost magical.
EDIT: "I'm sorry if my Geordie accent butchers these Japanese names" - It's OK, bro, I doubt any native Japanese speaker could do justice to the phrase "Away 'n' shite, man" so swings-and-roundabouts. :)
Vai and satch inspired me to go with Ibanez,, and there Awesome guitars, must of got 12 or 13 of them over a few years,,, RJB.
Hi all got the rg421ahm for Christmas, love it , 😎 I had an Ibanez strat in 1983 but can't remember the model , but was so easy to play .
I just bought my first Ibanez, an S1070PBZ I’m Frost White, and I can’t wait for it to come in the mail!
But I have to say, anything in the S series, with the super thin bodies and wizard necks-mmm, girl, let me tell ya!
Happy new year mate.
Thanks for all your videos last year.🙏🙏
Love your enthusiasm👍🏻
I just bought the 2011 RG3250MZ Prestige in frozen ocean with shark tooth inlay, very nice guitar to ad to my collection🎸
Look forward to more informative videos🤟🏻
Love your informative and entertaining videos.
👍
I got my first Ibanez about 6 months ago and it's an RG 550 from the year 2000 and it's black with a chrome pick guard and I have to say this guitar is absolutely stunning, it work of art, best guitar I have ever laid my hands on, and the sound is unbelievable for passive pickups I wouldn't even think it was possible if I hadn't heard it myself. The Wizard neck is unmatched for speed and that Edge Tremolo is also unmatched in craftsmanship and never goes out of tune no matter how hard you wail on it. Honestly I can't say enough about the Ibanez RG 550 series best damn guitars on the planet.
Been playing Ibanez since the 90’s 🙂 Edit: Great Flex btw
My first guitar was in 89 or 90 and it was an RG550. Wish I still had it
@@vinceruland9236 First guitar? What! 😳 Dude, that was my dream guitar. I used to go to our local guitar store and play the RG550’s whenever I was at my guitar lesson 🙂
@@comment.highlighted my aunt bought it for me. I was in either 9th or 10th grade. Yeah it was a sweet guitar. My parents couldn't afford it but I really wanted to learn and she just did it. Was totally grateful
@@vinceruland9236 Way to go Auntie! 🤘
I got an used Ibanez Rt from 1992 gifted to me last year and it plays beautiful
"RG" stands for "Roadstar Guitar", not Roadster. The Roadster models were basses, that then became Roadstar basses, before being supplanted by the Roadgear, then SoundGear lines, which ultimately is now just called an SR.
Correctamundo Damon Rios, go to the top of the class mate, fact indeed.
Far far far too much rock 'n roll is grossly insufficient woefully inadequate and nowhere near enough ! Oi, Dagan, great channel, great topics, great presentation, great info & u r a bloody handy guitar player and them some mate, you can rock proper deadly mate!
I've got about me, among Maton's Fender's custom stuff, several Ibanez mongrel mixtures of various makeup - DiMarzio's on one EMG81/85's on another and RG's SA's & odds & sods Gio's in 2's & 3's about the joint festooning me studio like a mad woman's sh*t - all over the joint! Underrated well perfoming playable comfortable & versatile guitars Ibanez are fair dinkum gospel this... they aren't the best by no means the worst, some Ibanez sound feel & play just beautifully - some don't some are total dumpsterfiretrainwreckChernobylmeltdowns! yuk!
Rock 'n roll outta control no parole no dole no moral role just play!
Loud! Hard! Heavy! Often! ASAFP 'til ya fingers blister ya nails bleed black
& you get a scarified hideous painful 'Trials of a Man Called Horse - like' great gutsy god-awful guitar welt practically tattooed onto ya hide a red-raw weal raised across your sweaty chest/breastbone from armpit to left nipple - yep, u know it makes sense!
My respect & peace 2u!
P.S. Q : Where does a humungous 9ft 8inch 583kilogram yowie sleep ?
A : Where ever it bloody feels like !
Bigfoot is real ! Sasquatch are real ! Woodwose are real ! Yowies are real !
P.P.S. Let There Be Rock is my neighbourhoods' new favorite song, whether they like it or not, they've no say in the matter... back to the Blackstar & 'buckers!
Yep. That's correct.
Fantastic! Worth the time thank you
Already had an AM93 Artcore which is amazing and just bought an AZ. It was either the Strat pro II or the AZ and although I love the Strat sound, I think the AZ is more "the full package" and goes beyond what Fender offers.
I love Ibanez guitars and have had a few over the years. I still have 2 destroyers and 2 RGs.
You already know how THAT turned out!😡
Thanks for this video!
Adrian Smith and Dave Murray used Destroyers in the early 80's as well!
I just got the guitar you are holding in this video. Love it.
Thanks for posting this video, I learned a few new things! My favorite Ibanez guitars are the S series guitars!
I own an original, made in Japan, RG770. It's electric blue and I love it!
Got a new 540r in '91. I still have it, stock.
pure quality instrument.
Great video. You didn't mention the EX series from the early 90's. The final year they have 24 frets. Absolute Ibanez.
I like SR basses enough to have three: two 300Es and a 600E. It all started with wanting a bass with the jack on the front instead of underneath.
My Ibanez SR500 bass is the bomb. It’s quite a shock to have the sound guy compliment me on having a nice sound.
Dagan loves his job way too much. I’m jealous! Happy new year from the US.
Love Ibanez guitars, I have several and they play and sound great, looking forward to getting another one.🎸
Bought my 89 in 90ish. Bright carrot orange, right as the Nirvana craze was hitting. I SCORED it from Nadines in Hollywood. My go to still today.
‘88 RG 530. Japanese made. Roadstar 2. Had it since ‘92. Still my favorite.
I have a while Strat Mann guitar, which only recently I found out was an Ibanez, built in 1974. The hardware is all Fender, especially the steel tremolo block. Some sort of Canadian copyright issue.
Very nice series! Keep the good job! :) Greetings from Bulgaria! :)
I have the Black and Red version of that Gio, great guitar, even for a cheap one. Got my S670qm SB on the way! Can't wait!
Love it.
Ibanez was my first bass and first guitar. I love them and they’re amazing
Keep up the great work :-)
My favorite Ibanez model is the Ibanez destroyer especially the red ones they’re so beautiful
"A good friend of mine, Thomas McRocklin". Now THAT'S what the kids call a low-key flex.
Actually got the ad for the Boss SY-200 with him in it before this video.
Great video as usual Dagan. Your personality makes watching these video so much fun. Hope you and your family had a happy and safe New Year :)
Nice video and I agree and love Ibanez !! my favourite Ibanez guitar is - you guessed it - the one I own - not sure the model - is a beauty and was only $400 Canadian!! Just recently begun to realize how great quality it is. I am sure will buy another soon - maybe a Strat style ! Keep up the good work, I also am a great history buff and interested in things Japanese... OK, chow baby!!
My 2nd favorite guitar brand in 1995 saw Korn for first time I was 13 they opened for Danzig I was blown away with how they used the 7 string Ibanez I searched for one I could afford but all were too expensive back then finally got a 7 string in 97 but was a dean avalanche witch I traded for a beat up Wes Borland Ibanez Rg 7 was my main guitar for 6 years love it fun fact you said first was made to have a higher string well wes didn't use low B string he would do normal 6 string pack on top 6 but use another high E string on bottom not sure of tuning but strings were EADGBEE pretty sure was in some sort of C tuning though
mine fave is definitely the RG 550 (or RG521 for the hardtail version)! \m/
I have a roadstar ii from 1983 and it’s my baby
I have one like that it's flat black and red pickguard with shark tooth inlays. Mine was £159 and a ibanez GRG Gio amazing guitar
Also when I got mine of a retailaor last year in July ish I changed the strings recently cleaned the fretboard and checked the neck and string height and id never checked before all set up never had that before surprised
If I remember correct, the man who designed the Ibanez Maxxas, also designed guitars for Yamaha.
And it clearly shows on some of the models.
I bought that universe 7 string a couple months after it was released.
I had just dropped out of high school because every morning I would walk past my bus stop and Walk to the music store where I lived, and would come in and sit and play the guitars .
One day there was this 7 string Ibanez universe hanging on the wall above the counter ( it was so expensive they kept it up so no one could run out The door with it )
I played it every day Knowing I'd never be able to afford it.
One day the guy there say's why don't you try to get it we have a credit Co we go through, couldn't hurt to try?
I did and got it , I was soo fn happy....
Years went by I pawned it and couldn't afford to get it back.
Still kills me today
The first guitar I learned to play was my dad's 1978 Ibanez les paul
The ax7721 is definitely my favorite to play.
2:00 the name was Salvador Ibañez, with the "ñ", since there's no ñ on the english alphabet, they decided to change it to Ibanez, but the pronunciation of Ibañez in spanish sounds totally different.
