hello there!! i've wanted to try my hand at sushi making for a while now and finally got around to it... what do you think of our attempts? would you try this machine? and, if you want to come suggest some sushi for us to make the nextbeat link is here! nextbeat.co/r/GQXM/1
I've had a lot of experience making sushi and let me tell you, it's not easy! This gadget looks very cool, and I would definitely try it for a sushi-making-party! You did a great job both with the sushi bazooka and your sushi making skills when adapting and learning new tricks to improve on the next roll! As a suggestion (and this is extreme, but I've been watching a lot of Top Chef), I would say to use it for mushroom risotto, stuff the rolls with caramelized onion and a little bit of mozzarella, put the log in the fridge to firm them up, cut, then coat in bread crumbs, and bake/fry! Or you can always try a soy-wrapped roll too! :D
You guys really fit together as a couple. You both like to try weird things and it doesn't seem that you become too frustrated when things don't really work out. And there's always this trust of "I know you're not trying to hurt me or make me look bad on purpose".
Tyler you are supposed to cut the ingredients in stripes. You put it in the middle and thats how you archive sushi aesthetic. Either way you should try it without the bazooka, Im sure you will do an amazing job making the sushi. When cutting the sushi, dip the knife in water and clean in each time. The sushi rice is sticky so you need to clean after each cut. As for suggestions why dont you try buying fast food staples and sushi-fy them. Like a Bigmac, put the meat, the veggies inside the rice, ask for the extra bigmac sauce and put it in a ziplock bag (to make like a mini pipping bag) and decorate the sushi roll like in the fancy restaurants. Fancy fancy.
Using a tiny bit of water on the edge of the dry nori will help it seal together, and use a wet knife to cut your sushi, I promise it will make your life so much easier! 👍☺️ Great work though , sushi can be difficult to make!
Also leaving the imitation crab as larger pieces instead of cubing it will make it less messy and more like how people really make sushi. Cubing everything just makes a bigger mess when you try to make sushi rolls.
For better results, you might try a spritz of cooking spray. It helps the rice slide out easier. Also, be sure to add the right amount of rice to each side (I believe it's one half cup). Then press the push handle thing into each side of rice to make a trench for the fillings (it helps to use damp fingers to gently press the rice down around the handle). Then set the handle aside, and add your fillings. Snap the sides together, put the cap on, and give the handle a few taps to pack the rice a bit. Remove the cap, and press the sushi directly onto one end of nori (if you're using it), and roll it up. Use a sharp knife and wipe with wet paper towel between each slice. With this method, you should easily have visually perfect sushi. The trench helps center the ingredients and you'll have a better idea of how much fillings to add without overflow. Also, the finer you slice your fillings, the more you'll be able to fit inside, and the less the rice will shift about. I've made sushi my whole life the traditional way, but I've had fun experimenting with this gadget over the last few years, and this is what I've learned. Hope this helps!
So I have one of these and love it, here's a tip for how to use it. After you load each side with rice, use the long stick end of the plunger to make the cavities in the rice that you load the fillings into. Resist the urge to overfill. When you close up the two halves, you have to make sure that rice is contacting rice along the edges of the tube to keep it from falling apart once you bazooka it out. Hope y'all read this and hope it helps in the future!
ham ham but he said it was in place of nori as the rolling agent placing it on the inside made the sushi hard to cut because when the knife caught on the fruit roll up on the inside the fruit roll up began to take the sushi roll apart
I bought one of these when I lived in Australia in 2008. I love it! We hosted a sushi party ppl had a blast. You fill with rice. Use the pushed wand to make an indent in the rice to make a dent bed and lay your ingredients in the bed then fold it close and the rice will surround the filling. It works great when you fill it right.
I think its probably crucial to have the rice evenly spread and molded with the ingredient more like in a tunnel for it to look and b able to cut like sushi? N maybe need to check out some how to cut sushi without it fallingapart videos... I can'tcook. Im just eyeballing it. Dont listen to me. XD
Yeah, you’re supposed to put the cap on and then push the long plunger end down to compress the ingredients to the exit end of the sushi bazooka, but I don’t think he did that for either of the last 2. It seems like he just put it on coz he realized it was there. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
We have that here in NZ but called a Sushezi (like Safiya said). What you need to do is put the rice in both halves and then use the inner tube to press down and make a long indent in the rice for your fillings. That way the rice will be able to enclose the fillings completely and keep its shape. Also, once in the nori put it in the fridge for 5-10 minutes. That softens the nori and allows you to cut it easily. Good luck!
Extra tip. Before you take off the cap and push the sushi roll out, twist and push the inner tube bit to get the rice as tight as possible, that will make the roll very sturdy and it will hold its shapes better. I have a Sushezi too. I made sushi with it recently and it took me a few attempts to remember how to use it.
Bro you are supposed to put the stick in the middle when you have put the rice in and close the zooka to form a channel for the ingredients to rest in, allso you NEVER chop anything in sushi it is supposed to be long to be even in the roll 👍🏼
I have one of these bad boys! If you use it again, the thing you push to the sushi out can be used to make an indent in your rice! means you have a little divet for the innards so that they dont come out the sides of the rice :)
Cooking tip: when cutting anything you should hold down the thing you are cutting down with a closed fist with your middle knuckles sticking out slightly to prevent fingers being sliced. Secondly don't dice up the toppings into small cubes. _eg fake crab meat should be left while and just line the inside as is, the avocados should be in then slices).
If I do that, I cut my knuckles. lol I have to have my fingers "in the way" (as most people would see it) or I fail miserably and end up hurt. It's only when I try to do things the supposed "safe" way that I cut myself. So I cut towards myself, peel towards myself and am just fine. I think it might be something to do with my ASD and spatial awareness issues. I have to see myself to locate myself properly and with my fingers stretched out I may accidentally catch the tip of my nails and cut a slither of nail off, but I'd much rather that than a slither of skin off my knuckles!
SUGGESTION FROM RETIRED PROFESSIONAL CHEF: I would like to see you make a sushi roll with skirt steak cooked black & blue, caramelized onions and mushrooms, and bleu cheese crumbles. I think it would be FABULOUS! It would make the rice more complimentary to the dish if you use Worcestershire sauce in place of soy sauce in your sushi rice recipe. Some chives snipped into the rice mixture might taste nice and be really pretty, too.

Hi guys. I own a pair of sushi bazookas! (never thought I'd say that xD) Just a few tips. When you place the rice, first slightly oil the "Bazooka" with a napkin for easier "release". When you set the rice, use the same umm "stick thing?" that you use to roll it out, to create like a small cylindrical shape or canal, where you can place all of your ingredients. (Just press it on to the middle of the rice, on both sides) That way when you close it you won't have that small gap in the middle. And when you close it roll it against the cap until it is firmly pressed against it and then RELEASE! haha We use it at our restaurant (we specialise on Chinese cuisine, so we cheat the sushi part xD) it works nicely, so I hope it does for you too. And also when you cut it, wet the knife a little bit (and make sure it is sharp) so that it doesn't fall apart when you cut it and it won't stick to the knife. (Don't put pressure, cut it gently) And sorry for long comment xD Good luck!
Use rice to sick the nori to the roll (it makes it easier for new timers, I couldn't stick the nori with waterXD). And really try to roll it tighter and pack that rice :] Also leave the strips (crab, cucumber, carrot ect...) whole and slice them thinner. Dont cube them (every ingredient) all the time Lmao
1st sushi: Tyler,” that’s amazing!” Me,” nice good for you” 2nd sushi: Tyler,” that’s amazing!” Me,” isn’t that what he said last time?” 3rd sushi: Tyler,” that’s amazing!” Me,” ok he just wants us to think he’s an amazing cook” lol 😂
Tyler are you able to elaborate on that restaurant anecdote? like, did they take your pic and tell you to never return, or was it more of just a "kick you out for one night" kind of thing?

Everything was so..... cubed XD
I also think cutting on a cutting board would have helped. I'm thinking a hot knife would have helped cut through the fruit roll up.
And cut it to two pieces first
Also leaving the imitation crab as larger pieces instead of cubing it will make it less messy and more like how people really make sushi. Cubing everything just makes a bigger mess when you try to make sushi rolls.

Hi guys. I own a pair of sushi bazookas! (never thought I'd say that xD)
Just a few tips. And when you close it roll it against the cap until it is firmly pressed against it and then RELEASE! haha
We use it at our restaurant (we specialise on Chinese cuisine, so we cheat the sushi part xD) it works nicely, so I hope it does for you too.
And also when you cut it, wet the knife a little bit (and make sure it is sharp) so that it doesn't fall apart when you cut it and it won't stick to the knife. (Don't put pressure, cut it gently)
And sorry for long comment xD Good luck!
Ong Tyler you have that DAD 'STACHE
Use rice to sick the nori to the roll (it makes it easier for new timers, I couldn't stick the nori with waterXD). And really try to roll it tighter and pack that rice :]
Also leave the strips (crab, cucumber, carrot ect...) whole and slice them thinner. Dont cube them (every ingredient) all the time Lmao
Israel Morris seeing Tyler chopping the ingredients into cube i was like "NOOOOOOO..!!! 😱"
5:10 "that's the thumb nail right there" lol!!😂🤣😅
"We didn't learn from any of our lessons." Chuckled. But truth be told, the Cali roll would have been a pleasure to eat!
URg I want sushi now. Badly.
i actually feel like making sushi, maybe even making a sushi video too haha
SAMEEE, love your videos babe!! x
Lmao snob bf was really mad at the frushi concept but he just lost it with the Cheetos™ one
Meanwhile I'm here like _"what if..."_
1st sushi: Tyler,” that’s amazing!”
Me,” nice good for you”
2nd sushi: Tyler,” that’s amazing!”
Me,” isn’t that what he said last time?”
3rd sushi: Tyler,” that’s amazing!”
Me,” ok he just wants us to think he’s an amazing cook” lol 😂
Tyler are you able to elaborate on that restaurant anecdote? like, did they take your pic and tell you to never return, or was it more of just a "kick you out for one night" kind of thing?
in my mind i like to imagine that they have a wall of deviants where they hang up pictures of people who shall never return
You need a really sharp knife to cut sushi or one of those wire string things
Tyler looks like a dad in this and I love it
Did anyone notice how Saf had a smart top and jogging bottoms on!!! 😂 😂 😂 😂 My style
Tyler is wonderful!
I'm a simple man, I see Tyler wearing a mustache, I click.
🤣
You just need better knives to cut the sushi so it doesn’t stick and squish.
Sarah Sparks A sharp knife, and wet it, it helps cut through the stickyness of the rice 👌
blackglittercandy Agreed. We also wiped ours every 1-2 cuts to eliminate the goo.
