If you get shorter fibers in the meat, it'll be more moist but slides into danger to become a meat puck. I don't think meat puck is what Saf is going for.

    Hi, hobbyist baker here! In terms of leavening, breads that are leavened with baking powder are usually called quick breads. Think of something like banana bread: not exactly sandwich bread, but somewhere between bread and cake. That’s how I’d classify this one here.

    • @listenheed
      @listenheed 2 года назад +36

      Someone else below also mentioned zucchini bread, which is another quick bread leavened with baking powder, so this is along those lines, for sure.

    • @mowin1990
      @mowin1990 2 года назад +25

      I always struggle with that. Because in germany what we call cake is usually leavened with baking powder. It comes in all flavours like chocolate or lemon. It sometimes has a glaze but never buttercream. What i gather is called cake in the us is our Torte. But the cake part inside is still leavened with baking powder. There are of course some cakes made with yeast or relying on beaten egg whites, but those are kind of less usual.

      yep tbh i was wondering why was there no dough hook involved

    • @Kumanosuke
      @Kumanosuke 2 года назад +5

      In Germany it's considered a cake. What Americans call bread is called "Toast" here and solemnly used for being toasted and usually eaten with jam, more like pastry. If it has sugar in it, it's not bread. Americans put too much sugar in it haha

    “Meat by the foot” would totally work. Dried meat + dried berries + a little fat = a delicious snack invented by the indigenous people of North America centuries ago. In my area of Canada, it’s called pemmican. But I’d watch you try to make your own version with familiar ingredients from the grocery store.

    • @Crow_Smith

      I'm finding that a LOT of these "Things that shouldn't be dessert/made this way" are just things that either were semi-lost to time OR just aren't culturally normal in certain areas to the point they seem bizarre and like they shouldn't work/should be gross.
      Also! I was wondering what pemmican is - it's the food loafs you can buy in The Sims 3 [first place I heard of it] that are your survival food if you go exploring the catacombs or the ancient puzzles where you're underground for daaaaaaays in game.

    Fun video! I absolutely love avocado so this recipe is a must (although I'd probably make a banana avocado bread to avoid all the processed sugar). The avocado bread also seems like it would be delicious with a bit of dark cocoa powder for a little chocolate delight.
    Regarding the comments about yeast and bread, yeast is not a technical requirement for bread making (though it does give that delicious taste and texture that we are used to when we think of bread like with pizza crust or a baguette). Bread can be differentiated by being called yeast bread if using yeast. But yeast is a rising agent, thus bread is technically also possible with other rising agents like baking powder or soda (like you would use for biscuits). And these are called quick breads since you don't require the extra rising time like when using yeast. Because cakes are also almost similarly made, breads like that of banana, zucchini, pumpkin, avocado, or other quick breads using fruit or veggies, are similarly textured, though more dense like a muffin. The added sugar also contributes to the texture and taste likeness to a cake or pound cake.
    Lastly, for Your avocado bread toast, try toasting the bread in the oven on both sides and then add the avocado. Just an idea to make it more toast-like!

  • @jaymiedivinagracia1977

    re Guacamole dessert - In SouthEast Asia where avocado is quite abundant, it is primarily served as a dessert rather than a savory food. Avocado shakes (drizzle chocolate syrup on the side of the glass), avocado ice cream (try it homemade using condensed milk and cream), and avocado cheesecake are fairly common. If you ever make the avocado bread again, I suggest mixing dark chocolate chips in the batter.

    The way the ENTIRE censored Count song came flooding back IMMEDIATELY lmao! And fyi this is a "bread" the way banana bread is, aka a quick bread, aka a low key cake haha. Also they way I was cringing at the use of a butter knife to spoon out the avocado and a spatula to "cream" the avocado and sugar, oooof! XD

    Avocado is actually a sweet ingredient in most south East Asian countries. My grandma is Filipino and she makes some excellent avocado desserts.

    Me as a Filipino grew up having avocado as dessert. It baffles me when other countries prefer it as a savory food. But thankfully, I quite have an open palate where I appreciate new foods than the usual Filipino palate.

    Legit. The ice cream shop in my town once had an Avocado ice cream and it was the BOMB. It was so delicious and creamy and went beautifully with chocolate ice cream. I miss it so much.

    Safiya saying "should I regurgite it" made my body react with a weird grunt chortle snort turning into a laugh that - mixed with the fact I was mid swallowing - didn't go well. 🤣 Ouch, my throat hurts. 😅

    Tyler’s baking is low key infuriating to a fellow baker. I may or may not have yelled at the screen several times during this video. Am also glad this channel is getting love again❤️

    I was taken aback when you used the words "vintage" and "70's" together in the same sentence. Now I REALLY feel old! Might try your recipe tho...if my old self can manage to get out of bed tomorrow.

    It is bread! There are two main 'types' of bread, the type that uses yeast to create the rise (which is considered more traditional, like white bread and dinner rolls) and then there is quick bread (usually associated with sweet breads) that use baking soda, baking powder, or both to create the rise.
    ALSO: Pro tip, do not stick the measuring cup directly into the flour. Spoon the flour into the measuring cup and then level it.
