If you're good, you'll have an epic cinematic experience like this right here. If you're generally just garbage at games that don't involve pressing one button, then you're going to feel like the game is clunky or simple. end of story.
+Nickuh88 Even someone like me who plays their fair share of action games... The combat system wasn't very intuitive. I really hope that you will be able to customize the controls. I would love to change the circle button to R1 and leave the jumping and dodging to my thumb. Would probably change L1 for auto targeting or something.
TastySammiches Final Fantasy 13 had this same problem. Yeah you could do a lot of cool combos and get a high score or you could just push X... A lot of people took the most direct way and the game for crap for it. This game may have the same pit fall.
+TastySammiches Hyperbole doesn't look good on people. FF 13 may have been as lazy or involved as the player wanted but auto-pilot doesn't work like people say. Been there and tried it, your AI is too stupid to get you through the game. My biggest complaint about 13 is it has really bad AI, I wish they at least kept the Gambit system as an option.
+TastySammiches This is true for pretty much any FF game, the first part of them aren't exactly hard. Final Fantasy 7, 8, and 9 were notoriously easy and could pretty much keep your cursor on memory and defeat a lot of enemies and bosses (you may need to heal or use items from time to time depending on your grind level). The only one I recall that you couldn't really do this with was FF 3, FF 5 or 6, and then FF 12. Final Fantasy 13 may not be a perfect game but to fault it for something that can be done in a lot of other Final Fantasy games.
I don't believe this is someone playing the game. I think this is a video of the real Noctis fighting an Iron Giant. Badass video dude, it's my goal to learn to get as good as you.
+Safersephiroth777 Tell me about it. The first video of the platinum demo i saw was yesterday. And the guy just kept running around doing the same combos over and over. Plus i read that it was a "hold circle to win" game, So i just thought "Huh, guess there's not much to the battle system". Then i saw this guy play and i am just blown away. This looks fun as hell. Hype restored. But now i wonder where all the "press circle to win" nonsense came from.
+silverdragon122 Those people play it wrong. The combat is deep if you experiment with it. Those people most likely missed these features as there is no proper tutorial in the demo.
Holy shit this game is amazing. Theres so many moves and combos you can do. It almost somewhat feels unlimited. It feels like you have freedom can do whatever move you want to.
I remember Tetsuya Nomura saying as director a while back when this was still Versus XIII that he wanted to make the game to have action/moves/skills like those shown off in Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children. Up until now I really haven't seen a player who has properly controlled/utilized the gameplay technique as well as you have to make his dream come true. WOW.
+shadowpal2 Have you ever played a 'Tales of'? This has been what the battle system has been like for years for that series, Squeenix is extremely late to the party if anything.
Awesome video man this probably the most cleanest and best gameplay I've seen to date! I actually did a tutorial and some lab testing such as the infamous hold defend ( when in reality you just tap it ) keep up the good work
+Plutia's pet Yeah it still sucks, I love me some Final Fantasy but even that can't get me to give this a pass. At the very least attack should have been R1 so that my thumb could focus on jumping and dodging...
Can I like and favourite this video twice? You just made my day with this. Oooooh man. Oooooh jeeze. Gotta' get back to that demo as soon as I have time.
Thank you for actually uploading an example of what can be done with the game's current combat system. Pretty much all of the gameplay consists of people not realizing that they have no magic, no mp or not even realizing they have the armiger when the game is literally telling them on the screen. Even when it tells you in the hints that some attacks cannot be dodged, they are surprised when they couldn't dodge an attack. Not to mention none of them realized you could do mixups by doing different inputs on the left thumbstick. Idk why some of them are so oblivious, but this is a masterful demonstration.
F*** !!! You, sir , are good! To all the noobies who kept on saying this is your typical Button-smasher game where you can win the game just by holding O . Just watch this video. Damn, and this is just from the tech demo ; now imagine the full game.... Epic Right? oh boy.
+Rai Shin I tried holding to win. I had a very bad time, and struggled to not die, felt like a bullet sponge boss. Since the only in-game tutorials just said to hold down buttons for a while I thought that's all there was, and it was pretty shitty. Once you find out the nuances it completely changes how the game feels and plays, they really should have explained some of it because it flipped my opinion on liking the demo completely once I started getting into it.
I take back EVERYTHING I said about this demos ruining of the combat system. This gameplay takes my lifetime of gaming and makes me look like a child you silently face-palm at while they play idiotically. If its capable of DMC level shit like this, I'm just terrible at it.
Good freakin job at first I was like some people disappointed until I started playing with it more and adding different combinations and finding the shuriken and shield and holy crap amazing game and this is just a demo. Also the graphics and effects going from damage and accidental burning to everything and even small things like seeing your reflection in the water soo much awesomeness
Machina Kunagiri really? i literally wrote down i was being sarcastic.you think id write something this stupid only on one of the few videos that actually depict how the game is meant to be played
Only thing I believe you could improve on was the charge attack with the great sword. I think you held onto the attack button for too long and lost some damage output.
+Kylo Ren In what part of this you need to "git gud" when there is a button for you to dodge automatically all hits? Oh and Im not on the nay sayer group, cant wait for this but I know there are tons of flaws in this game, and demo made them very obvious
+Graavigala85 the option to dodge MOST hits is there, but you're warded for pressing the Defend button at the right time. Just holding the button down will dodge all attacks, but it consumes your MP. What if the AI was designed so that you'd be put in a situation where all their attacks would drain all your MP in 1 go? Then you'd have to think about what your next move would be, whether it would be warping to a more advantageous position, or perfecting your parris so that you won't lose any MP. Also, there are attacks where you cannot dodge because they're unblockable. In the case of the Iron Giant, he has a grab move that can sap out 40% of your health, you can't just dodge that with holding the button. the Shockwave that comes from his ground pound attack is also unblockable, so you have to jump or warp out of harms way. All in all, the element of knowing what your enemies can do is still an important piece of information to have when tackling the game's combat.
MrVince329 Thats good that the game has some elements like that, I dont want it to be a cake walk, but also I dont want DarkSouls experience :D (DS3 is giving me enough pain already) I hope this game is good and does well, I really do, but demo just left me kinda meh and previous FF games havent been that great either so I will take this with lot of sceptimism
Now THIS is how you fight to the best of your ability in the demo. Making full use of the tools here. Good dodges too, those are tricky to get right sometimes, especially when dealing with the ground pound.
+relu419 Why it isn't Final Fantasy? Just because the combat changed? If you think that the only thing that defines all the Final Fantasy franchise is just the combat system, you should play all the games again...
Davi Souza In essence, the art of FF is Cartoon, not had limited team, you can use all characters and all characters had different environments, not had an empty field in open world and more. The part of essence in your "pure" form started in 1 and finished in FF 9. FF 8 tried a "more realistic" art style, but back with the glorious cartoon in FF 9. Since PS2, FF changed a lot, but continued with good gameplay between characters, except the FF X2, the same stupid way as the FF XV.
How does he manage to teleport all the way around him at 0:33? He starts the combo in the air in front of him with the Sword, and teleports directly behind him and continues with the Shuriken. I can't seem to teleport all the way around him, just to the left or right a bit.
+brian frescas Yeah the combat is going to be very deep with the multiple types of weapons, team attacks, weapons skills, summons, etc. So hype for this game.
I just found out that you can blow up the yellow barrels with fire to create a massive explosion. Fire is also weak when it rains, just some things to put out there for people saying "hold circle to win"
This is how it looks like you know how to fight witht the new system. Looks a lot better than Duscae fighting style. The Final game will be better for sure. But i would wish for a desk switch button or combination. What do i mean? You can switch between 4 weapons (and magic) which is great. But i would like to have a button to press for switch'ing between the options. 4 weapons at this side, 4 at that. Which would make a total of 8 weapons/magic. Would there be such an option? maybe... r1+r2 or something like that.
+Brandon Graham Not quite, i guess hes getting at something else. Think of the "Tales of" titles. In the newer Iterations you could often bind multiple Movesets to the usual direction + Artes button if you pressed a different shoulder button. For example: Down+O = Demon Fang Down +O+R1 = Raging Tiger
game informer has an article it's in the FFXV subreddit if you wanna know. but apparently you have multiple hotbar loadouts that you can swap on the fly
90% of the people didn't know how to play the game that's why there is so much hate about it. I'll give you an advice. You can interrupt a wark strike by switching your weapon during the teleportation animation. With this trick you can approach ennemies without hitting them. It's pretty cool.
Anyone know how to do the the charged broadsword attack? I've done it several times but I've never gotten it to work consistently, often times Noctis would just auto attack with side to side swipes.
+TYoim that does Tempest. the charge attack is done by letting go of the attack button during your combo, then pressing it again after a short period of time. Think Pause combos akin to Devil May Cry but applied to finishers.
Basically this guy plays the fight perfectly. He spaces his way back to get off some hits with the shurikens, comes in with the sword in the air, while tapping the triangle button in order to get behind the iron giant. To get back some MP, he hits once or twice real quick with the broadsword in the middle of his strikes so as not to have to escape to a warp point to refuel. All that's left is to time your attacks carefully and switch to the Hero's shield for defense, parrying any and all offense so as to counter and punish him hard. Just hold circle when the attack message pops up and you let it rip!
+belmiro2008 Full toturial here : sites.google.com/site/darkwavestyle/games-research/final-fantasy-xv-platinum-demo . You need to pause your attack with you greatSword .
+Master Umbreon No, he's asking about the charged attack, not the spinning attack. The greatsword's charged attack is to let go of circle during a combo, wait for Noctis to stop attacking, then press (and hold) circle again. Every weapon has a finisher attack triggered that way.
+Allforone246 Same. I was scratching my head when people kept saying its hold circle to win. I will admit though, the smaller enemies where Hold O... But they were level 1 and not even actual enemies.
+Allforone246 Also knowing when to use defense and manage your MP, unlike other ARPGs, dodge roll is really unreliable, the defensive stance and warping are your best choices when trying to avoid damage, and they cost MP, so if you run out you're stuck with the crappy dodge
Allforone246 I believe, that the Dodge Roll was included to not make you helpless with no MP on, but it is a subpar option to the defensive stance and teleport dodge. But yeah, with enough skill, you probably can go through the whole game without touching you MP bar. The same way people do level 1 runs, or no gear runs, or even solo runs in other games
+TheGreedyJew Brothers It's funny because people want the FF7 remake for example to be turn based like the original. And those games are literaly press the attack command to run through most of the games. And bosses require you to heal when you get low, or use anidotes and shit like that. But bosses in KH2 for example which is much more button mash than FFXV still have extremely hard bosses that you need to know their patterns of fighting before you can beat them.
OK I have no idea how to do most of the moves I just saw in this vid lol I love how the game doesn't even tell me what moves I can do , it just tells me buttons for attack and roll and block and dodge lol. How do you do that super charge attack ? and how do you manage to stay in the air so long while throwing the weapons at the enemy ?
I was blown away by the first demo, but there was something off, so I decided not to get it. Played this demo, then played it again, then a third time. preordered the special edition. I can not wait
Tap attack and then hold attack quickly after. You have to be switched to the broadsword though. You can use a different weapon for the first attack, just make sure you hurry and switch to the broadsword before you hold the attack button after.
For the broadsword, you can execute the charge as a pause finisher. What I mean by that is, after your initial attack or combo string, release the button, after a short amount of time passes, the game will prompt you to press the attack button again. In most other weapons' cases, you will do a finishing move, but with the broadsword you can charge up the last swing.
the extra weapons you get as Kid Noctis will appear when you have the right amount of crystal shards when you step on the gift plates. The Hero's Shield and the Cross Shiri ken are found in the same area; on top of the balcony. Hero's Shield is unlocked with I think 200 crystal shards. Cross Shuriken is unlocked when you beat the Iron Giant once and summon him again. To get on top of the balcony you need to point warp up the building, once you reach high enough, drop down on top of the balcony. Use regular warping to decrease your fall speed. Or press the Dodge button the moment you hit a flat surface to negate fall damage.
I'm not saying this isn't fun to play, because it is. However, I liked the Duscae combat 100% more. For one, there was more you could do with Armiger (once you found all 4 Swords). Also, since Armiger ran off your MP in Duscae, leveling up increased its length, unlike here where it now has its own gauge. Also, I liked being able to equip 5 different weapons and choose in which situations those weapons were used. Now, you have one weapon made for aerial combat, another for defense, another for range - and I get that the same "needs" are met by these weapons but I liked experimenting with placing the weapons in Duscae in different roles. Plus, you could have 5 equipped in Duscae, now we're down to 4 (3 if you choose to equip Magic as well). The Block and Parry system in this version seems to have been weakened as well. Then there's the fact that you have to have the Airstep Sword on to Warp to higher spots, where in Duscae you could just Warp whenever you felt like it regardless of what was equipped. I'm still very much looking forward to this game, and hope some of my doubts will get resolved on release. But I think the reason people hated Duscae so much was just because they didn't know how to play it (and granted, it did lack a Tutorial for the finer points of combat and equipment). I just hope these people that are still complaining don't cause Square to break things even further just because people don't know how to play the game.
+cowboybbp1 the Armiger in the Duscae demo might be a upgrade you get later on in the game. So that might come back. You can pick and choose what weapons you want. I don't get the complaining about 4 weapons. Most games are only 2 weapons anyways.. But I do agree with the parry, it did get a down grade.
+cowboybbp1 I played duscae, and I vastly prefer the platinum demo combat system. In duscae, you could equip 5, but they were limited to the situation (ex. just a jump attack, just a finisher attack, etc). Here in plantinum demo, even though you have only 4, you have more options because the weapons can be used in all situations and you can switch to them right when you want it. All the other concerns, you shouldn't have doubts because you forget that this is an ARPG. In this demo, we're playing as weak Noctis, and in the full game, once we level him up, we will no doubt be able to do much more in combat and be more powerful with Armiger.
Not too sure how I feel about the combat system. It seems to be INCREDIBLY easy... No thought or strategy involved (which is strange for Final Fantasy).
+DaRealN8Doogie As a longtime fan who played every title except 1.2.3 and Lightning Returns I have to say it's the other way around. It's absolutely not beginner friendly. I played more than 6 hours now and although you just got 4 weapons here I still have fun while I'm improving my skill. Other than Hack and Slay titles you can't just press dodge button to dodge, cause Noctis will finish his attacking animation first. The battle system is so different from all other games I've played so far (Kingdom Hearts, Hack & Slay, RPGs, whatever else you can compare it to). It just takes some time until you realize how the battle system works. But then - enjoy^^
All of which are smaller games when compared to the scale of FFXV. When you make a big game, the graphics are going to suffer, that's how consoles work, there's always a trade off.
This kind of ATB system sure was innovative when Wolf Team/Namco came up with it over 20 years ago for the 'Tales of' series. Leave it to Squeenix to make it look boring and sterile with plenty of pointlessly flashy effects.
If you're good, you'll have an epic cinematic experience like this right here. If you're generally just garbage at games that don't involve pressing one button, then you're going to feel like the game is clunky or simple.

I didn't know half these attacks were possible
It's because the demo doesn't really explain what you can do. It requires a lot of experimentation
Very impressive combo work.
Around 0:29, poor iron giant's crotch takes a beating.
The focus attack at 1:00... Hot do I use it?
+belmiro2008 Full toturial here : sites.google.com/site/darkwavestyle/games-research/final-fantasy-xv-platinum-demo .
You need to pause your attack with you greatSword .
I can't warp effectively. Help!
I blame the demo not having a decent tutorial on combat. Thats probably the reason why many players think the combat sucks.
+Carsons12 Agree. This demo didn't do the game any good. Even though the combat is great, no one understood it.
Didn't even know weapons had a charge attack. Nice work
amazing gameplay
+Hewf Would you mind making a video on the combat system, to explain it a little bit better than the game does?
How does work that focus attack with the biggest sword?
how do you charge the sword like at the end? I haven't been able to figure that part out
+Squirt4757 you hold back and attack, each weapon does different things when holding a direction + attack
+Master Umbreon No, he's asking about the charged attack, not the spinning attack. The greatsword's charged attack is to let go of circle during a combo, wait for Noctis to stop attacking, then press (and hold) circle again. Every weapon has a finisher attack triggered that way.
Did the final blow moves just removed in the release gameplay?? (the greatsword)
Wait how'd you get the sword and shield and the cross shuriken?
Sweet dodges
How do you do that charging attack at the end?
Yeah, just nothing but holding circle right?
+Crysus Bu I know, I was being sarcastic.
Are we playing the same game? This is awesome!
Holy shit!!!!
That's amazing!!
OK I have no idea how to do most of the moves I just saw in this vid lol I love how the game doesn't even tell me what moves I can do , it just tells me buttons for attack and roll and block and dodge lol. How do you do that super charge attack ? and how do you manage to stay in the air so long while throwing the weapons at the enemy ?
amazing!! pls do a no damage run when the game is out
It looks like using the Great Sword refills your MP. Am I seeing that right?
This reminds me of Final Fantasy I. See the resemblance?
To that charged tempest did you hold back or does turn into tempest from fully charging it
for Tempest, during your combo string with the broadsword, pushing back on the left analog stick will execute the move.
Amazing!
I was blown away by the first demo, but there was something off, so I decided not to get it. Played this demo, then played it again, then a third time. preordered the special edition. I can not wait
Doubts: Erased
How do you do that charging thing with the broadsword at the end?
Tap attack and then hold attack quickly after. You have to be switched to the broadsword though. You can use a different weapon for the first attack, just make sure you hurry and switch to the broadsword before you hold the attack button after.
Thank you! I'm going to give it a shot now!
how did you do that?
So, how do you use those special attacks? Like the charging one?
And how do you do that Backflip in air and in ground?
+daniel apfelkuchen Thanks =D! I have just one other question, you can charge all special attacks?
Fucking superb skill on display here. GG!
Impressive!
Tutorial please /o\.
Oh! SO you charge up and hold down the heavy blade to do heavy combos. Is that just for the heavy weapons or all of them?
For the broadsword, you can execute the charge as a pause finisher. What I mean by that is, after your initial attack or combo string, release the button, after a short amount of time passes, the game will prompt you to press the attack button again. In most other weapons' cases, you will do a finishing move, but with the broadsword you can charge up the last swing.
MrVince329 I wonder if all skills will be Quick Timed Events or Reaction Commands like Kh2's.
kokayi Newsome I would only really say that applies to specific parries from enemies.
Geez you made that giant look free as fuck
Holy shit epic
wow it's so amazing
I was pretty legit in Duscae but I've yet to get this legit with the new system.
Ooh, fancy!
Sick fight
Okay so why the fuck were these combat techniques not shown in the tutorial? Or did I just miss half of them...
Toy.☠️🇲🇾☠️🌟
where can i find the shiruken and the other weapons ?
the extra weapons you get as Kid Noctis will appear when you have the right amount of crystal shards when you step on the gift plates.
Yeah i figured out in other videos but thx
+cowboybbp1
I played duscae, and I vastly prefer the platinum demo combat system.
In this demo, we're playing as weak Noctis, and in the full game, once we level him up, we will no doubt be able to do much more in combat and be more powerful with Armiger.
hes pulling off devil may cry combos and shit meanwhile the demo allows me to continue playing on 0 health multiple times
its a tech demo, you're not supposed to die.
Ayza I know I'm just saying how bad I suck
Lol I tried doing a four weapon playthrough of this fight to start my own channel, but I just don't compare 😅
dem skills
DAMN SON
beautiful (Y)
wow 😲
And to think... all you have to do is hold "O" to do allllll of that.
+Silphiroth Ok! I'll take your word for it. I still haven't played it yet, so I'm only going off of what I've been seeing!
I wish I could do something like this xd But I just spam every button and try to dodge dark souls style but get hit by everything lol.
うますぎる
great graphics, now the boss fights need to be on par with demon souls to be fun.
are this demo visual final?...coz the graphic does not impress...
No, the demo was released on April, SE said the image quality will be far better for the official game.
"Graphic does not impress" How could this possibly not impress you. The graphic style and quality is still amazing. What are you even expecting here.
chickmcjr not much..something between uncharted 4 ,the order 1886 ....last of us perhaps....
All of which are smaller games when compared to the scale of FFXV. When you make a big game, the graphics are going to suffer, that's how consoles work, there's always a trade off.
Looks about as fun as Lego game combat
If you're having actual "fun" with _Lego_ games' combat, then WTF are you doing here?!
*This is a REAL FUCKING VIDEO GAME we're dealing with here.*
WTF!!! 😨😨😨 THE MONSTER COULDN'T EVEN TOUCH HIM ONES. WHEN I PLAYED AGAINST THIS MONSTER HE KICK THE SHIT OUT OF ME 😯
Holy fuck that framerate
THAT AIN'T DARK SOULS
+Kaikachichi THAT AIN'T SORA
+Kaikachichi THAT AIN'T FALCO
Uhhhh.... Khakis? -Jake from Statefarm
Damn this makes me first run at this guy look pathetic.. then I again I barely had a clue to what I was doing.
NICE gameplay. Others have been so....frustrating to watch.
So awesome. Shows how you need to be skillful with the battle system and not a button mashing noob.
The game is not fun......until you try it yourself.....that is it.
Looks easy.
+Necrosun Try it and find out for yourself.
k
This kind of ATB system sure was innovative when Wolf Team/Namco came up with it over 20 years ago for the 'Tales of' series.
Leave it to Squeenix to make it look boring and sterile with plenty of pointlessly flashy effects.
+The Stoned Porcupine Like you can do any of this shit in the tales game. Nice bait, troll.
