This is AMAZING! I especially like how you made the house "wiggle"... I have used After Effects before, but this is a whole new level and I can't wait to map out my Halloween show!
Please make more videos on this subject! So far I've got After Effects up and running with my projector for my first time ever. Got ok making masks and getting my video content in. It takes time but you've made it possible to teach me new software and new light show techniques!

very cool. Necessary info for three of my projects which need AR, hologrrams, projectors, and AI algorithms, and of course, 3d designer software. As an ex artist, your use of light source to play with the effect is interesting
Nice idea to use the after effects raytracer for the 3D lighting effects. Do you need to convert your masks to shapelayers to make the extrusions work?
The 3d performance can be improved a lot by using the elements3d plugin for after effects.

1. Short throw 2. Normal throw or 3 Ultra short throw

I am a beginner at AE and am following along. I started masking my areas as you were masking the house...the start...the 3 windows...then you cut off to mask the whole house and when you came back you had a master house and what looks like one layer with several masks. Can you please explain how you did that? TIA.

Having a little trouble with the Video Preview option. I followed all your steps to enable Video Preview and it worked, however only a minute later it stoped working out of no where. Now it only shows my MacOS wallpaper. So basically, After Affects and my projector wont talk to each other. Anyone know how I can fix this?
Awesome and very informative! Question, do you think it could be possible to take a photo of your house where you are going to put the projector and just use the photo for reference while building? My neighbors would kill me if I had the white projector lamp on at night for too long.
I'd imagine if they'd hate you for that that doing the lightshows would be even worse?

This video was posted in 2018. Divinci Resolve's version of after effects (fusion) came out in 2017, and has made improvements since then to compete. Would you consider after effects the better tool still?
did you manualy trace the shape layer? i can't get the extrusion geometry from my current mask path..
I've got the same issue. He skipped the point where masks convert to shape layers.
I want to mix projector mapping with light sequences, can that be done.I have not seen a projector that can be controlled with DMX.I thought about just having the projector turn on when needed but need it to be sequence with audio and lights.Can this be done
you have specific software made to do this kind of mapping projects, I would recommend MadMapper that can control multiple projectors and dmx output.
How did you create the master mask? I've tried numerous things and nothing works.
I notice that before you speed up the video you are creating one mask per layer. Then after you map the whole house you have 1 layer with all the masks in it, then copy that layer as needed. Is there a specific strategy for this?

How do I use 2 projectors at the same time? My house has a corner that one projector can't 'see'. Is it possible to map with 2 projectors so I can cover every area and just map it in after effects as a single project?
I'm trying to do the same thing - two projectors and a single AE project - basically two 1920*1080 being seen by AE as a single 3840*1080 display on a PC. Any ideas/tips would be greatly appreciated!!
@@stevedublin6592 I am trying something similar using and the best solution I could find was using a Matrox dualhead2go we shall see if it works out.
Brad Bond thanks Brad! That’s where I landed too ! Also, rented madmapper for a month for 40 euro which allowed me ‘tweak’ the alignment outside of AE in real time. - really appreciate you taking the time to help out!!

I am using two projectors on the from of my house since I have a couple large oak trees in the yard there was just no angle a single projector could cover the whole front. I just finished sitting in my yard drawing out the masks a couple of hours ago. Now trying to figure out how he has all the masks in a single folder as they step is skipped in the video.

how do i connect more than 2 projectors if i only have 2 output fom my GPU?
Displayport can daisy chain 8 screens i think. So 8 seperate screens on one output.

Can you manage multiple projectors simultaneously with after effects?
I had same question. I saw another video and that author mentioned using a triplehead2go adapter. However it turns out this only works with Windows. I'm using a Mac...so not sure about solution yet. He said the adapter makes AE think 2 projectors are one big display.
His house is white brick. What if your house is red brick or a slightly dark red brick? Do you need to hang white sheets or something to have clear projection?
Your projection will be tinted. say, if the wall is pure red, projecting colors like blue, green will result in dull color. That's why projections screen are mostly white/ light grey to get "accurate" projections.

BTW- I also wanted to clarify that you originally show each mask as its own layer but then you proceed later on with all the masks created on a single layer which originally threw me off until I figured that out! Lol!!!

flyinsparkey I will have to look when I get home but I think if recall right I just kept making new mask on the same layer instead of copying and pasting like he did....I will check when I get home
John, how did you figure it out? I cant get all of the masks into one layer and then have the ability to turn them on and off. Please help.
