Thank you so much for the videos, they're superrr helpful^^ my other question is that I downloaded a video content from the RUclips and I tried to project it on the uv image you offered in this tutorial; however, it does not work with me.. so how could I customize the video content as 5 tiers since it's clear that the particle cascade video you've used in Mapmap tutorial is already structured as 5 tiers..
You need to use some video editing software to layout your own content to fit with the 5-tier guide. This tutorial might be helpful ruclips.net/video/okrqJkka7ng/видео.html
The video is very informative. I’m a first time viewer to your channel. Can you do a video on where to buy, or how to create (software) the content to be projected? Thank you.
Hi. I sell video content for cake mapping on my website lumabakery.com/shop/. They are mostly created in either After Effects or Cinema 4D. If you search RUclips, you'll find numerous tutorials on how to use these packages.
Thank you so much for the video. Kindly share the QLAB, Madmapper, and multiple projectors tutorial too. Why do you use dummies instead of real cakes? Can you use real cakes for all the tiers?
Hi William. I'll try to get that tutorial uploaded soon. Of course you could use real cakes for all the tiers but that's a huge amount of cake! The client might not need that much cake (or want to pay for it - real cake is more expensive than a dummy). Real cake is also MUCH heavier so you're making it harder for yourself in that respect too. I believe the best option by far is to follow the advice at 02:54 and just have the top tier real and the rest dummy. I also mention some other advantages; for example, the fact that the dummies have nice sharp edges for clean mapping, whereas real cake has rounder edges and doesn't look as crisp.

@@jonnycaccioppoli7465 Hi - check out my video on how to make a cake mapping guide. That way, you can make your own guide according to how many tiers you have and their sizes. ruclips.net/video/y8qF-PA2qO4/видео.html
If you want to create your own animation, how big should the individual “strips” and the total image size be when creating in FinalCut, Premiere, etc.?
How big the total image size should be depends on the resolution of the projector. Full HD is pretty common which is 1920px x 1080px. The "strips" need to be in the correct proportion to fit 8" x 5", 10" x 5" etc. How big these are depend on how you pack them into the total space. However you scale them, rotate them etc they need to keep that same ratio of width to height. Use the numbered_UV asset (in the bundle of free assets I link to in the description) as a guide.
Do you mean use a different projector from the one I'm using? Or a different projector from the one you set up the mapping with? For the first scenario: yes, that's fine. For the second, you will probably run into issues if the projector has a different resolution and lens throw so I wouldn't recommend it.
I love this tutorial but I only have 1 problem. When you started to do the mapping you clicked on source and it switched from the cascade to the numbers. My mapmap doesn't have that option. How did you do that?

hi luma, i would like to know if im trying to project a single video on the entire cake similar to your windmill projection, how do i do that? also how do i run the program to display only the projection?
Hi, you can use Map Map to project a single video on the cake -- it's the same principle as in the tutorial but with a different input. Watch the last section of this video and see if it gives you any ideas ruclips.net/video/rXennwOHXXQ/видео.html I'm afraid I don't understand what you mean by 'display only the projection'. What else might you be displaying?
I don't understand why you would pack the images within a 1920x1080 frame It is always good to use Hi-res assets but when you project onto the cake you aren't going to be able to control projection quality beyond fitting the cake as tightly as possible within the projection frame. within that frame the cake will take up only the amount of pixel resolution as it uses within the projection grid. which is going to be much less than 1920x1080
@@LumaBox I'm sorry. Jumped the gun on being critical. I didnt understand how the software would make use of sections of the packed images. It's a lot like looking at a 3d models skin in 2d. Do you notices any appreciable detail improvement by using a higher resolution images asset and forcing it to downscale?
@@peeperpawsmcgee Yes it's very much like packing UV shells for efficiency. You will notice more detail if you use higher resolution assets - for example, in my shop, the cake mapping content comes in two layouts and one is 2048 x 2048 so the user has some flexibility. It all depends on what your machine can handle.
Great video, I have a question about the software. Do you need a separate software like a vj software to make the animation like the raining magic or is the MadMapper enough? I was planning to buy the MadMapper but then they gave me the option to buy modul8 also, didn't understand what software that was. I though I have to buy an other software to create the animation or illusions.
Hi, yes, the animation shown in this video were created in other software (mainly After Effects) - but MadMapper does contain a material library with some in-built effects. I demonstrate some of them in this video ruclips.net/video/1Typv7KxBRM/видео.html. There are many tutorials for learning AE on RUclips. I also sell cake mapping animations in my shop if you'd rather just buy them lumabakery.com/shop/

On the dummies? No, I kept the fondant icing layer. I'd make a special effort not to touch the icing with my hands when I disassembled the tiers and stored them separately in cake boxes to keep them clean, somewhere cool and dry. If you take care of them, I'd say you'd only need to replace them every year.
I'm going to feel like a idiot asking this, because the solution is probably something really simple >_< I follow the tutorial (got zip file too) and everything went amazing... Except for when I loaded the mp4 file. When I play it in windows player or vlc I can see the particles, when I try to play it within map map it's just a empty white box. Can anyone help?
Have you added any meshes yet using the rectangle icon? Beyond that, I don't know the specifics of your system or what the problem might be. Maybe try to reinstall or use a different machine.
Joan Driscoll Do you mean the particles that come as part of the free resources? Are you using Windows or Mac? Can you get MapMap to play any other kind of video as a test?
What do you mean by "modes"? The ways of transforming the bounding boxes e.g. move, scale, rotate? Or are you talking about the missing source option? If the second thing, I can send you a workaround for following this tutorial if you are using Windows.

I take your point, but I don't think I agree that it's not worthwhile packing the 1920 x 1080 space. What layout would you use?
@@LumaBox thank you for your reaction. Oke then I understand the system (I need a program like MadMapper to project and a program that are more specialist to make the animation. How about the modul8 and arkoas grand VJ? Are they like the AE or even better? On google they recommend this two software. I want a software that give me the option to make the animation that I imagine. What do you recommend me? I am a starter with this mapping, but I want have the software where I can do a lot of thinks or make different animation. I want just start well as a beginner
@@samirmdz4774 Modul8 and ArKaos are alternatives to MadMapper, not AE (they are VJ software). These packages often give you the option to build looks yourself from their in-built effects, but you are going to need to learn animation in software like After Effects and Cinema 4D if you want to be able to create anything you could imagine.

Hi Luma Bakery, how did you get the pictures or plays on the mapmap.
Please could you describe the issue you're having in a bit more detail? At which point in the tutorial are you encountering problems?
@@LumaBox Sorry. How did you get the pictures or MapMap scene that you want to put on the cake into the MapMap to map it on? I hope that sounds clear.

Hi. I've received your email and will respond there :)
I would find it very helpful to have a tutorial on Madmapper and qlab

How much do you charge for an event?
Depends entirely on what the client wants i.e. amount of personalisation. In the UK, you probably wouldn’t find a cake mapping service for less than maybe £600
I imagine thats like a base price but what does that include? How many hours the show last ?Here in the US, where I live there’s nobody doing that so I don’t have a Reference price I been wanting to do this for years but last time I gave up trying to make my own vines/roots lol,and now I can just get the effects from you :)
@@oskarquiterio8208 Something like a top tier of real cake and a selection of pre-made video content.
Did you change the fondant layer evrytime you did an event? Please explain.
@@LumaBox Hi Luma, so not is sugar paste?
I'm going to feel like a idiot asking this, because the solution is probably something really simple >_<
I follow the tutorial (got zip file too) and everything went amazing... Except for when I loaded the mp4 file. When I play it in windows player or vlc I can see the particles, when I try to play it within map map it's just a empty white box. Can anyone help?
Are other videos working in MapMap? Or is the cascade the only video that is showing empty white?
Hi! I'm interested to use map map, do you have a link on where I can learn it?

@@LumaBox thank you, I am using a Windows laptop, I tried to add the Number_UV image but it is not showing on Mapmap
Have you added any meshes yet using the rectangle icon? Beyond that, I don't know the specifics of your system or what the problem might be. Maybe try to reinstall or use a different machine.
Hi! do you know where i can get different types of videos for my mapping?
Hey. You can search for stock footage/animation loops. Or make your own. I also sell cake mapping content lumabakery.com/shop/
Luma boa noite, quanto vc cobra pra vender esse segundo efeito do bolo ,que está no começo do video
Hi all the prices are listed in my shop lumabakery.com/shop/
Super video however my particles won't load?
Joan Driscoll Do you mean the particles that come as part of the free resources? Are you using Windows or Mac? Can you get MapMap to play any other kind of video as a test?
Wich projector are you using for your projects @lumabakery
Please see this page for a list of all the equipment, including projector, that I use lumabakery.com/materials-equipment/
Modes don't work on mine. How do i fix it?
What do you mean by "modes"? The ways of transforming the bounding boxes e.g. move, scale, rotate? Or are you talking about the missing source option? If the second thing, I can send you a workaround for following this tutorial if you are using Windows.
What is the model of the projector?
I give the model of the projector in this list of kit lumabakery.com/materials-equipment/
