    wow great job i love the look of these. when i started getting into 40k six months ago most of the people i knew had normal stances and poses with their guys and i always thought that making them look really unique was a more interesting look and so ive got an entire army that looks great now and its good to see someone else taking a strong appreciation for the simple ground troops

    Great vid mate, really useful tips. I really like the idea of your renegade chapter being made up of different chapters, I kinda have it in my head as a renegade Death Watch! Have you expanded any of your chapters fluff to characters and units in the army explaining why/when they turned their backs on the emperor? If so I would love to see some sort of chapter fluff vid in the future.
    Cheers

    • @wintersSEO
      @wintersSEO  9 лет назад +4

      Certainly have. They see themselves as loyal to the Emperor but not loyal to the 40k Imperium. My chapter believes the Imperium has lost its way (who doesn't) and tries to follow as much of the pre-heresy as they know. Fleet based with human / guard auxiliaries and a significant Mechanicum contigent. The Mechanicum keeps them supplied, the Guard keeps them honest.
      I really should do a vid. Must keep it short or I could go on for hours.

    Hi, how do you get such a smooth finish on the white and blue?

    • @wintersSEO
      @wintersSEO  8 лет назад +4

      After applying a standard layer, paint another layer with a 50% water mix. This smooths out the imperfections.

    Just a quick question, what colours did you use on the base please I saw a brown and castellan, you dry brushed grey and another colour beginning with z that I missed. Any help would be appreciated.

    • @wintersSEO
      @wintersSEO  9 лет назад

      Zambesi desert (think that's how you spell it). Drybrush the whole base grey and then light brown here and there. So the grey and the brown both show giving a 3 tone effect.

    super sexy, i was going to copy your colour scheme and go with SS82's eldar tutorial to achieve it but now you have released this tutorial, i can go straight to the source XD.
    currently working on some red tau and using all the same steps in the tutorial, edge highlighting up to a orange at the brightest parts of the armour. The only step i dont use currently is the wash and instead water down my first coat. The wash is still much better.
    Since then though iv dreampt up other colour schemes for my marines and am going to attempt a decepticon type theme. Black with darker grays going into lighter grays with some purple trimming on perhaps a shoulder pad edge or knee for example.
    I was wondering what advice you can give me on giving my black panels some depth as i don't think the wash will take affect on them. Should i aim for an extremely dark grey like Eshin Grey and leave the crevices black/washed ?
    My biggest fear with the scheme is getting flat black paneling whilst my greys and lighter greys would have three or four layers to them including the wash. Any advice working on black would be great. Either way great video !

    • @wintersSEO
      @wintersSEO  9 лет назад +1

      Working with black is difficult. When adding grey the models tend to look more grey then black. If you want a grey affect, then start off with grey, add the black wash, highlight grey then do the highest areas in white. Pretty much as I did in this vid with blue. It'll work. Grey is cool and easier to do then black. For black you want to start with black, then highlight all the upper areas and gaps between the armour - the details on the legs and arms, for example - with a light grey. Dawnstone is good. The drybrush / highlight the high areas with white. It'll make a mess so then you'll want to touch up the black again. No wash needed. Remember to use light grey then white. It's quite a contrast / quite a big jump from black to white, but you need that to pull out the details, or they get lost. (There must be a vid somewhere on youtube). Personally, I would test paint two models - just the armour, don't worry about the rest - and see which you prefer.
      If anyone else had got suggestions, please join in. Help a brother out.
      Thanks. Happy wargamming

    does anyone know is it necessary to paint your SM in specific colours like ultras to use their rules or you can paint them as u like and then use any rules such as ultras, fists, templars etc?

    • @wintersSEO
      @wintersSEO  8 лет назад +2

      You can paint them in your own colours and use the rules from the Space Marine codex and use any chapter tactic in there. Each chapter has an unknown number of successor chapters. These successor chapters have their own colours. Check out my army showcase video for the fluff behind my chapter and how I use the various tactics to my advantage.

    What's the name of your chapter? Or....brotherhood of renegades, rather?

    • @wintersSEO
      @wintersSEO  9 лет назад +1

      We have many names (how cheesy is that) but are mainly known as The 13th. As originally they were the left over bits and pieces from the 13th founding, the Cursed Founding. Now comprised of renegades from many foundings and chapters. That's why we do not boast any heraldry and use different chapter tactics for different conflicts. (Seriously I have pages of this stuff).

    Great video. Taking the time to do a good job during the assembly is the most important part of painting mini's. An OK paintjob over a well assembled model looks great, an excellent paintjob over a poorly assembled model still looks bad. You can hide some things with painting, but not much - especially when it comes to mold lines.
    I think that one of the best tips you gave was to put the head on last. This can really sell the model by giving it life, making it look like it is in motion. A recent project of mine shows how much of a difference this can make. I just completed a couple of Ork bikers - two of them have a very similar pose with a weapon held over their head. One is looking straight ahead with the weapon off to the side - this looks like he is issuing a challenge. The other model is looking in the direction of his weapon, and it looks like he is beginning a strike. Slight changes in position can make all of the difference in making models unique and help to make them pop.
    The updated color for your blue is Caledor Sky.
    More videos please.

    Hi man, stunning result.
    When i first saw your first highlight on the blue armor, i was like "GOD, WTF is that ?!", and then you cleaned those highlights to fade it to the enchanted blue.
    To sum this up, you went > 1st enchanted blue > 2nd lothern blue ? No other blue paint ?
    I still do wonder, since i can't understand what you say since it's in English, how do you fade the lothern blue highlight to the enchanted blue base color ?
    I don't know how you cleaned this, two options to me
    - mixing up enchanted blue with lothern blue ( 50/50 ) and you just paint the transitions between both colors ( meaning painting a line between enchanted blue and lothern blue, so a third color "mix" both colors ) ?
    - Doing a blaze ( paint with a lot of water, verry few paint on the brush ) of a mix of enchanted blue and lothern blue and then covering the whole areas to get a single "color". But this option would mean to fuck up highlights since the blazes will "uniform" the colors to only one color in the end.
    Can you please write me down how do you exactly clean up the "mess" after the lothern blue highlight ? That would be AWESOME.
    And by the way, i ain't got much enchanted blue, and i'm not able to purchase some anywhere since it's not in production anymore. Would it work with caledor sky, to get that flashy blue armor you have ?
    Thx a lot and good job !

      Yop again, i've tried caledor sky, but this lead to a VERRY different blue. Any tips to get such a purple blue you got as a base color aftet the first painted on the armor with the new blue citadel colors ? I've got em all.
