I used to LOVE this track. One day many years ago when I was living in LA I met Jim Hilton who had produced the album this was on. He seemed cranky about it for some reason-and when I asked what the inspiration for the LONG drum solo-(which I always thought was very cool)-he curtly said it was done because the song was terrible. : ) I wonder if he'd been screwed over money/royalties....
I got caught crawling under a circus tent to see Iron Butterfly in Edwardsville, IL. Instead of getting kicked out, Doug Ingles gave me an autograph on a pack of yellow wheat straw Zig Zags and let me stay for the show.
Erik Brann and Danny Kirwan. Two pretty much forgotten guitarists, overshadowed by their bands, but excellent in their craft. The Ball album has such a fantastic guitar playing all over it!
Great lesson and playing. Still have the vinyl from my wayward youth. Can’t make up my mind whether I love this or hate it. May as well try to learn it so I can put it to bed.
Wow. Weird. I have Been playing this song last few days. What are the odds. Great live version on youtube with Larry ' the Rhino' and Mike Pinera. Fantastic lineup.
Thanks J.J. "Sitting In My Office"??? What's the story????? come on brother , do tell!!!Peace sorry for the misspelled word, duh.... Thanks for sharing your music, A big fan just outside Atlanta Ga... Peace...
I read once that the Butterfly were in the studio were waiting for their producer to show up and then they were going to lay some more tracks down for their new, as yet untitled album, and just decided to warm up by doing an extended jam using a tune they had not yet completed; the recording engineer just happened to catch it all on tape, and when it was played back they decided to use it as-is, even though it took one whole side of an LP.
Finally, another song to use w/ my stupid Fuzz-Rite. It's a cool pedal, I guess, if you want to play Psychotic Reaction, and this song. Stacks real nice w/ a Muffroom. Played Here Come the Warm Jets for an entire afternoon. Got some patient neighbors, man. :)
Another one to love. Thank you. Still wondering how you get your modelng amp to sound so close to the original guitar tones and would love to see you devote a video to just discussing how you do this for the songs you share with us. Thanks again, JJ, you're the best, sir.
I totally agree. He always seems to get the right sound out of his amp. I have tube amps, modeling amps, effects, and I never seem to get the right sound. I would also enjoy just hearing how he matches his tone to the actual songs. This is a great idea.
Couldn’t agree more vociferously 🎸🎸🎸. 2 seconds into this I said to self JJ has nailed the guitar tone once again. I’m about to trade my Fender Reverb for this amp. Please devote a vid to this😎
Hi James; Is there any possibility of you "tabbing" some of the song out for us to play along with?? It sounds very good, better than other people who played it on RUclips. thanks!
I would ask how are you getting that electric guitar sound but what I think is going on here is the combination of whatever you're using amp/effects wise combined with the sound of the guitar on the original recording there creates a unique perfect blend of old and new- now just sample that and put it into a guitar effect
I know you're not normally inclined to reply to comments but I would like to know how to set up the tone to match this song. Obviously humbuckers but after that what? Some fuzz, a British style amp?
as far as i know, iron butterfly used vox super beatles and mosrite fuzzes. idk how similar the super beatle is to other vox amps but an ac15 should be perfectly fine. and you can make/get a fuzzrite clone for decently cheap, just make sure it’s a good clone.
I think Simo is a way better guitarist than Page. I mean, there are a lot of guitarists that are better than Page. Doesn't mean Page sucked. Check out some Simo videos and you'll see. Look up the ones on RooseveltMckinley's channel. Those are my favorites. And then check out his interviews and Simo will talk about guitarists HE thinks are great, i.e.: better than himself. It's a wonderful rabbit hole I've fallen into many a times.
James James Did you see the country covers he did with the Lexington Lab Band? They are on RUclips. His chicken pickin is ridiculously good as well. Thanks for all the extra-great lessons lately!
SIMO is an American rock band which formed in Nashville, TN. The group is notable for having virtuoso guitarist JD Simo as the centerpiece and namesake. Wikipedia.

Wow that's awesome
Erik Brann and Danny Kirwan. Two pretty much forgotten guitarists, overshadowed by their bands, but excellent in their craft. The Ball album has such a fantastic guitar playing all over it!
That's Danny Weiss...ok
@@josephguerra703 He's thinking of guitarist Danny Kirwan of early Fleetwood Mac!! 😂😂
RIP Doug ingle. Finally someone that plays the correct notes on this one!
This song and Closer To Home by Grand Funk Railroad were staples to my 8th grade band “Antithesis” in 1970. Great lesson as always.
Love it! Grew up with that song. Saw them in concert. Thanks!!
Awesome! I'm going to try this tonight on my Firebird. Thank you!!
Great vid of one of the most histrionic songs in early rock 'n roll . . .
Inna Gadda da Vida and Smoke on The Water.....the two 1970's guitar riffs for any teen aged boy.......
Great lesson and playing. Still have the vinyl from my wayward youth. Can’t make up my mind whether I love this or hate it. May as well try to learn it so I can put it to bed.

Man I think that you got more T-SHIRTS than I do. That is in part why I watch your videos. Keep them coming man.
Thanks J.J. "Sitting In My Office"??? What's the story????? come on brother , do tell!!!Peace sorry for the misspelled word, duh.... Thanks for sharing your music, A big fan just outside Atlanta Ga... Peace...

Came for the lesson and got introduced to SIMO. My lucky day!

I remember when that song was new!!
Nice job playing this classic rock piece! Would you mind posting here what exact guitar petal effect(s) you used? Thanks.
No pedals, just some gain and delay from the amp.
I was waiting for this and more butterfly
Nice shirt!!!

Gold! 😎🎸👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
Awesome job!
great guitar sound
Great tune!
SIMO... a great guitar player, his voice sounds alittle like Joe Cocker to me. Maybe a lesson is in the works??? Thanks James
That was one of the first songs I learned back in the 70s or whatever it was and that's how I played it also
I'm sure JD appreciates the mention.
Excellent! Are you using an actual Big Muff? If not, what? It sounds just like it!
Great now I can't get that satanic riff out of my head
Nice one bro! Thanks
Hi James; Is there any possibility of you "tabbing" some of the song out for us to play along with?? It sounds very good, better than other people who played it on RUclips. thanks!
Have you ever covered Soldier In Our Town?
Well Done

Awesome sound. Love the tune and vibe. What kind of equipment you use?
Do you see?....do..you...see?
Nice, fuzz pedal or modeler????

Did you use a fuzz pedal or a distortion pedal to get your dirt sound?
Great, thanks; but, how come Simo could be greater than Jimmy?
Jimmy hasn’t been an active guitarist for at least 15 years. He’s retired.
It's true, I agree.
I think Simo is a way better guitarist than Page. I mean, there are a lot of guitarists that are better than Page. Doesn't mean Page sucked. Check out some Simo videos and you'll see. I will.
bravo questa versione mi sembra la piu fedele
J.D love
Where did you get the T?
A gift from a friend!
Lesson is shorter than the song
What does your tee shirt mean JJ
JD Simo, the greatest rock guitar player alive today.
J.D. is a super nice guy to boot!
James James Did you see the country covers he did with the Lexington Lab Band? They are on RUclips. His chicken pickin is ridiculously good as well. Thanks for all the extra-great lessons lately!
