Excellent guide. I'm surprised you didn't cover DHC synergy with teams that can super into each other well, but aside from that you got pretty much everything covered

As I say in the vid if its a team you want to play, then its the right team for sure. That said if thats the team the order you listed them in to me would make the most sense in the order you play them as well.

I'm using Nappa, Vegeta and Frieza and nobody can change my mind. They're the original crew of bad guys and it's awesome. If they can defeat Nappa, I give them Vegeta, and if they can beat Vegeta, they get the BOSS!

VikingII I use almost same squad and am sticking to it...nappa, vegetation, ginyu doestn seem to be much synergy between them but nice not to be one of the millions using the same 3 guys...goku black, kid buu cell😂
Vau Gr I used to run Piccolo,Krillin, and Nappa but all I ran into was Goku Black And Kid buu And id get my shit pushed in. I ended up switching to Cell,Goku Black, and Frieza they are just too good in this game.
Vau Gr I think the lack of synergy is because your team is lacking a good anchor. If you're running a team with Vegeta (assuming SSJ, not Blue), then he should be the second in the team pretty much by default, though he can pull off being an anchor, but his assist is too good for him to be a point character. Ginyu, likewise, should be pretty much Point by default. Ginyu has high meterless damage, but really appreciates assists to cover him. Nappa really wants to be either Point or Second to buy time for Saibamen with an assist, so he kind of competes with one of them. The best way to run your team as is, imo, is Ginyu/Nappa/Vegeta, so I'd shuffle those guys around. I think that Ginyu/Nappa/Vegeta, in that order, could work, though, if you want to keep that general team comp.
Have to comment finally, I want to thank you for going out of your way to explain meta concepts to those who may not be familiar. You do a fantastic job and I have to commend your efforts.

I'm here to help! One thing I pride my channel in to differentiate it from other fighting game channels, is its much more education based vs "entertainment".
Yeah, tutorials are a great way to differentiate yourself. But I know how hard they are to do from experience (I've made a few for Juri in SFV) so I appreciate your work.
Also as a side note, your tutorials SHOULD be featured on Eventhubs and SRK. The fact they aren't is very disappointing. But hey, Maximilian's gotta eat...
SRK posts my stuff every now and then. Eventhubs is more about clickbait than actually helping people though.

I do like how in canon it's a thing that Frieza won't even get out of his hover chair unless his whole army is dead - and in FighterZ, he's best used when your team is dead.
My team (at least one of the few I'm having the most success with so far) consists of Android 16, goku Black, and Frieza. 16 is the lead character who combos well off of the other 2 assists and has good normals and mixup potential, but lacks any effective way to get in on zoners. Even without meter, he does really high damage
This is where the 2nd point character, Goku Black comes into play. Because his assist is a beam assist, it can cancel other beam assists and help 16 get in on the opponent. If you're already in their face, you can use the assist to continue the combos or pressure. Goku Black assists is very versatile because of this and even by himself, he does well.
Frieza is the anchor that doesn't need assists as he does good damage, combos, and has good normals, but he can benefit from them if he wants.
This is an amazing guide! It seems as if after watching one of the slides, every question I had was answered in the next presentation! Definitely will continue the series at a later time now that I'm geared up to hit the Hyperbolic Time Chamber and build my team. Thanks, @rooflemonger!
Beerus assist in the corner is actually a decent pressure/combo tool because of the the kick and ball being hits

I'm currently running Yamcha/Adult Gohan/Vegeta. I play it more as dual point, though, where Yamcha opens up the opponent and gets a combo started, then I DHC over to Gohan to get a quick Level 1 Install. Then I'll have Gohan+1 (with all his silliness) backed up with Yamcha's rushdown assist and Vegeta's combo extending one.

Originally found this on eventhubs, and I am very happy I found this. Especially with this being my first assist fighter, this was incredibly helpful. I didn't know that there was so much that goes into it. I'll have to move around my team a little. Normally I would just play my favorites and say whatever, but I do actually compete.

I've play street fighter, Tekken, mortal kombat, soul calibur, bloody roar, virtua fighter, king of fighters, marvel v capcom etc. I NEVER really got into marvel and kof to the point that I played them extensively soooo this new to me in a way.

I picked my main team based on my fav db characters lol. So I'm using Future Trunks, Hit and blue Goku.
Might have to make changes
Using the super oddball team of Ginyu, Gotenks and Tien, in that order. Ginyu has a pretty ridiculous pressure already and Tien's beam really helps with getting closer when you don't have Recoome. Plus, if i do really badly with him, the body-swap set up with Gotenks is amazing.
Tien is my anchor because his mixups and self-sacrifing supers makes him best for a last position.
Gotenks is kinda the weird odd glue that holds it all together.

When it comes to arranging the order of your team at character select, I think it's best to go point-->anchor-->alt point. This way, after switching from point to alt point, you don't run the risk of losing blue health in the worst case scenario that your alt point gets quickly combo'd to death.
Awesome tips! Thankful for my umvc3 playtime. Def helped create my team, of 18/Trunks/Kid Buu. 18's assist isnt the greatest, hence is point. Trunks assist is usuable. Both 18 and Trunks can make the most of Kid Buu's. My team comp can kinda be seen as Point/Point/Assist

I got a few teams, my main 3 are
Battle Hungry Warriors (Goku, 21, & Beerus)
Dragon Ball Finale (Goku, Tien, & Piccolo) and
The Frieza Force (Frieza, Ginyu, & Nappa or Vegeta)
The way these teams work is
1st fighter is the primary fighter, they do most of the work, 2nd Fighter is the support, they provide back up when the leader is in trouble, and finally the 3rd, their the finisher, I always make sure to build up lots of ki before using them, that way I can finish the battle with one of their ultimate attacks, Sphere of Destruction, Hellzone Grenade, Break Cannon or Final Flash, this mostly works against casual players, but I have beaten a few experts with it, otherwise I just use my primary team
Flawless Warriors (Goku Black, Cell, & Hit) this team is mostly speed & damage output
Perfect Form (Perfect)
'How do you make cell perfect?' But he's already perfect.
If I get this game I'll most definitely be playing either Vegeta/16/Beerus or A.Gohan/Vegeta/Goku Black

I'm fairly new to fighters in general and this whole team link system is totally new to me. So far I've only decided that my point will be Yamcha as of now, but I have no idea about my other teammates whatsoever. Do you have any suggestions for a rushdown character like him? I don't really have any faves I want to use, so I'm open to any suggestions.
Rushdown characters like Yamcha are exactly the opposite of what I am about. I am normally known for more slow defensive style play :-0 that said you literally cant go wrong with vegeta and the gokus. Gotenks, frieza, tien, cell and kid buu also all have fairly univerally applicable assists.
Regimeta with rush down characters you should have one lockdown assist to keep up pressure + oki potential ie wolf fang fist call an assist slightly before pressing special to switch sides and maybe one projectile assist to make your approach from full screen safer.
I use blue vegeta assist to prevent a cross up or help my trunks with cross up to create a combo that is the best use for the assist in my opinion

My current team comp is Android 21 as my point, SSJ Goku as my assist (possibly swapping for Goku black, haven't decided yet) and either Frieza or Adult Gohan as my anchor. Thoughts on what I have? What I should opt for? I don't mind changing characters and stuff, so long as I keep Android 21. She's my fav character. Love the videos btw! Been watching a lot of them lately.
Goku blue , freeza and beerus idk why but they mesh well together lol
My teams cell, Android 21 and gotenks. It's a weird comp but I'm trying to focus gotenks galactic donut to work with pressure.
I'm thinking of having them two also. You can combo with the assist to get a command grab off with her and possible other combos too. For pressure I'd do a block string call the assist then do the low attack jump cancel into instant air dash for high low or go for the command grab
Useful video. I'm not about team based fighters, so this is new to me. Beerus seems hard to place for me. I'm torn between having him or Cell on point. Seems I made the right choice with Tien as Anchor though.
Beerus is solid as an up front guy.
Great vid but you should also note that you had assist on quick recover. In a real match they have cool down time. Don’t want people out here thinking they have unlimited assist usage when they try to keep their opponent in blockstun.
You know what that's fair. I figured that would be assumed once you burn through both assists but I suppose that's not obvious to everyone.
I like using android 18 and hit like a dual point team but haven't found the third person yet. I just use goku for his assist and because he seems like a ryu haha. Still need to unlock the blue saiyans and android 21 but I can't seem to find the missing piece. Appreciate all the videos you do though and this is a great refresher on team building. I've been a lurker since the marvel videos so thank you.

I have a team of Vegeta, frieza and either Tien, Android 16, or kid Buu. I love having frieza as my anchor with the golden frieza burst duo potential, but I don't know who I should arrange where next. I want to get blue Vegeta tho, command grabs 👌
I've been running Trunks, 18, and Beerus. Though I'm not sure if I like Trunks or 18 on point more. All of their DHCs link so there is wiggle room in that regard. I feel Beerus and his more keep away style works for an anchor more, unless I'm mistaken....
I think if you run 18 she has to be upfront. Her assist isn't bad, but its uses are mostly to set up gimmicks. So unless your point guy is making use of those gimmicks might as well have her up front.

What do you think of using an mvc2 style team comp of battery, assist, user, instead of the mvc3 team comp of point, assist, anchor? I was starting to think with all of the meter burn and ridiculous 5 (and even seven in the case of gohan) bar supers, having a team built around characters that can go full bacon, eggs, and ham with meter like adult gohan, ssb goku, frieza, tien etc like cable did in mvc2, could be Pretty good.
Battery I don't find as much a thing in this game since nobody builds bar better than anyone else really and nobody seems to be able to run fully without using bar.

Is Android 18 a bad middle choice? By that I mean, should I run her as a point? Her assist is good, but it isn't offensive. Just looking for an opinion on if she should be in my 1st or 2nd slot.
Shes generally better as point IMO. Her assist is good, but it needs a lot of mixups and gimmicks to make use of it offensively, otherwise its just ehhhhhh. If you don't got those setups on point, she she should be upfront.

My team consists of Trunks, Yamcha and Hit, and there seems to be a good synergy between yamcha and hit, and trunks doesn't seem bad as a point character. However, I am not sure how good Hit is as an anchor. His assists looks okay for combo extension, but I'm not sure how good it is overall and his damage seems alright, but not that special. Maybe I haven't found a way to burn meter with him in a big way, but if anyone has some advice on improving my team, let me know. Also, fantastic video.
I don't particularly think hit is great as an anchor, but that's just my opinion. Could be proven wrong in the future but I think he's best served as the guy on point. Yamcha has a fantastic assist and can really rip through people in sparking blast(with some nasty tricks) so he would probably be best served as your last guy up.

I’m new to DBFZ, and I really want to play an Android 21, Android 18 and Cell team. I wanted to know peoples thoughts on what order I should put them or if they make a good team together. Thanks for your help in advance!
In the specific order you laid them out, I would put in in that 21/18/cell order. Cell needs assists the least for his core gameplan, wheras 21 really wants assists for a lot of her combos.
Right now my team is Cell, Gotenks, and Piccolo, in that order. I'm highly considering switching out Piccolo. What do you think of Piccolo, and if he's weaker who would be good to swap in? I'm considering Kid Buu maybe. If I keep my team as is, I think making Cell the anchor and Piccolo the point is a good idea tho.
Piccolo I don't have a good grasp on just yet since he seems to be a bit of an oddball compared to the other characters. I don't know if hes weak but hes gonna take a more discerning eye to play than just someone basic like goku.

Ok, I intelectually understood your video. I just wonder if this makes sense in practice. The six characters I'm running right are as such. Team 1 is: Vegeta, Goku, Adult Gohan. Team 2 is: Blue Vegeta, Black Goku and Android 16. Now, according to what I understood of the video, Team 2 sounds more solid, but team 1 seems to be the one where I am more comfortable. I was actually thinking of just changing ssj goku to Goku black, since the assist is basicly the same. But do these make sense?

I am using Goku,Vegeta and Trunks. I am having trouble using Trunks assist as a mix up for my combos. I have practiced some combos but the factor is the timing obln them and makes it difficult for me to perform them online . Any thoughts?
Ok than what do you think about my team I use in Beta and may use if I buy the game because I like them alot:
#1 Frist character: C#18
#2 Second character: Krillin
#3 Final character: Adult gohan
That how My team was managed mostly in beta So is it somewhat good or not really?

If you only got one person of a perspective team picked out honestly you can just kinda go with whoever. As for hit on point or sitting further back, you would need a team before I could even think of an answer heh. He's got a decent assist for re-combos so hes got a good enough time hanging back.
my original team was hit teen gohan and tien but recently i’ve been using hit cell and vegeta but i’m not sure which line up gives me the best utilization for hit
well both hit and vegeta both set up cells combo structure well so id say cell up front, hit next, and vegeta as your anchor in that situation.

Anyone can work on point really, but think about trunks and the goku black assist and who do you think would benefit the most from those? The point is only as good as the support it has.
any suggestions on what order to play vegeta, ginyu, nappa? I'd say that's also the same order from best to worse as far as my skill or effectiveness with them.
In that team specifically, i would go ginyu/nappa/vegeta. Vegeta easily has the best assist so you wanna save him for last so both others can make use of it, and ginyu benefits the most from being the front character since you can use ginyu force members + assists.

Hey man I’ve been having a lot of trouble configuring my team, or at least the final version I’m looking to work on. So far I have Trunks at point (can flex mid), Vageta mid (can flex anchor), and I was thinking of Teen/Adult Gohan, or Frieza as the anchor. I’ll eventually learn all three, but who do you think I should put my time into for now
well who you should put time into is who you want! But said said legit anyone but trunks is a solid anchor. They all don't need assists(but can use em), all good at burning bar. I guess overall adult Gohan would be the strongest at it if you forced me to pick.

In the situation of the team you describe, I think point and anchor should be reversed. Gohan has the best defensive assist in the game and 21's assist is ehhhhhh.
My team 16 point or anchor vegat assist and beerus anchor or point
For a team of Goku Black, Hit, and 21, who should anchor/assist? Been running Goku Black on point even though his assist is pretty strong so might need to swap that around.
If I were to play that specific team, I would have them in this order of 21/Hit/Black, just because black has the most useful assist of the 3 and on top of that hes solid enough as an anchor to play solo.

Just go with your heart, with that specific combo of characters you can't really go wrong.

Yep it can, although you gotta do it way ahead of time since it has a slow start.

Tips for a team with trunks teen gohan and frieza?
I don't have any specific great insight, although with that team you listed I would leave frieza as your anchor, since he has the best assist and the best comeback potential.
I was thinking about running 21, Blue Vegeta, and Yamcha. In that order I don't know how well that works though.
I'd switch around blue vegeta to the end but other than that seems solid enough. If blugeta is anchor then he can take advantage of that silly 5 bar super if need be.
Yeah, I am thinking that Blugeta's assist isn't as good as SSVegeta is the only thing.
His assist is weird but it has a lot of hitstun and good for combos, just gotta do it super early to make up for the slowstartup

Lotta people are good anchors. Anyone with a good assist that you wanna keep around to the end, or more specific character choices like tien, frieza, or adult gohan.

Based on this video, it sounds like nappa would be point, piccolo would be mid for the assist and 16 would be anchor? I'm kinda new to these tag fighters.
I am very much of the opinion that Nappa must be point character. He needs assists for anything more than basic baby combos, and with the saibamen and the assists backup, he's a pressure monster.
rooflemonger Thanks for the input. I recently discovered he has an unblockable saibamen setup when u pair his overhead simultaneously with saibamens low. Not sure what u can get off it yet though.
I would switch Piccolo and 16. From my experience 16 needs good assists to open people up and Piccolo’s homing blast assist is pretty good.
I havent found a good 3rd. I like 18 and im meddling with Beerus because I love lvl 3 grabs, but Beerus just seems....idk, slow? His projectile sure as hell isn't that fast compared to a beam, but his assist is good for corner stuff. I thought about GOku but I find the 'ryu' characters kinda boring to learn
Well gotta go with what your heart tells you. Right now I am using the marvel 2 mindset of 2 "main" characters and a character whose there for the assist. So right now im using 21/16/goku black(assist).

Well if you only got the one guy honestly I would say just pick who you want, this ain't a race you got plenty of time to figure out whose best for you.
That said SSJ vegeta/ssj goku/ssj goku black are all fantastic characters, with fantastic assists. Any one of those 3 will fit on any team guaranteed.

Um... Are you sure that kamehameha combo works in match? It looks like it only works in training mode, where you can take away the cooldown of your assists
Of course it does. I am using 2 different assists. There is no cooldown on the assists called, just their recovery. You can call 2 assists at the same time if you want. I call goku then goku black, not the same one twice.
I don't have this game, but I still wanted to ask a question regarding teams cause it does look fun and I probably will get it in the future. I definitely want android 16 on my team, and thought cell would fit with him too. Any ideas for a third character? I'm lost there.
Third character honestly just go where your heart says. As I kinda harp on in the video the goku's and SSJ vegeta all have amazing assists that go well with anyone, but the way 16's combo structure works he can use near anybodies assist.

Way too early to say. If you are using hit and ginyu I would say look at what you are missing and then make another pick that way.
Otherwise failing that the gokus/ssj vegeta and you literally can't go wrong.

Sounds solid enough to me. Frieza works well as anchor since near everyone can recombo off his assist, and sparking blast gold frieza is the closest thing you will get to a playable boss character.

Super Vegeta, Kid Buu And Bordock. Any order I should consider using them?
A presented, it should be Bardock/kid buu/vegeta imo. Vegeta is the assist slave and massively benefits both bardock and kid buu. Kid buu assist also helps bardocks fantastic pressure.

I'm surprised you didn't mention assists like Krillin's where he purely aids your character that's out with the Sensu Bean
I play Hit/Majin Buu/Gotenks and I love this team so much, but everyone tells me it's not gonna work because the assists are whack. I've played this team since day one but, I've experienced a 7 loss streak. Any advice on what I should do cuz I've been really discouraged lately. Should I stick with it and look for more tech or should I look for another team...? I'd appreciate the help if I could get any. BTW the vid was very informative keep it up.
a 7 loss streak is nothing, a week from now you will forget it even happened. No team with gotenks in it is gonna be bad off cause hes got one of the best and universally useful assists in the game. Trust me when I say play who you want as thats what you will be happy with in the end not playing whats "good".
rooflemonger it's that fact that I lost to a streamer who placed third in the game that discouraged me and I got my ass handed to me. But, you're right. I probably will forget it! It just gets me bummed when I see really good players who have played day one like me and become better than me in a matter of seconds. I'm gonna try this team again!
There's the concept of talent vs hard work. Me? I got no talent. I got hard work. But hard work and talent are equally as viable. Look at dogura in SF and guilty gear, he basically pioneered that concept as by his own admission hes got no physical talent or special skills, but what he does got is the drive to get better and in fighting games thats what it takes. Nobody can complain about this or that cause its willpower, look at Brolylegs, dude was dealt about as rough a card as you can get in life(multiple physical deformities and handicaps) and he was still one of the chun lis in north america in SF4.

I played P4AU (One the dead anime fighting games) for about 4 years ever since it came out and I started off being a beginner and knowing nothing to going toe to toe with some expert players who master some of the characters I do. So my team consists of goku black, piccolo, and frieza. I run frieza anchor but I can’t decide who i should run point between black and piccolo. As of right now I right now i run black because frieza’s assist is a good combo extender for his combos and i use piccolo’s assists for oki set ups, but I don’t know if i should run piccolo as point because of the usefulness of black’s kamehameha assist. Any suggestions?
Any team with either goku I feel they should at the very least not be point(although not necessarily the anchor). Nobodies assist is gonna be as universally useful as the kamehameha.
