EDIT Android 16 no longer has a meterless true hard knockdown FYI! Level 3's all still do though. Made on request! Exploring what exactly you can do after being knocked down, the various forms of knockdown, and the most dreaded of all what to do after you have been knocked down in the corner!
1:18 - basic knockdowns
3:19 - soft knockdowns
4:56 - true hard knockdowns
6:53 - what to do after you are knocked down in the corner
11:41 - in closing

Anything helps! With tips I can afford to buy the good bread instead of the cheap flakey bread cause I am a poor bum.

Another video made on request! I talked about a few of these concepts over a smattering of vids, but here it all is in one video, plus a bunch of stuff I have never previously talked about.
rooflemonger hands down best tutorials on RUclips. Great work!! 👍💪
What this guy said^
@rooflemonger Would you mind making a video based on applying constant pressure and frame traps?
Already made a generalized pressure guide friend!
Cool, gotta check it out. Maybe I overlooked it. Thanks dude 👍
Just wanna say I'm brand new to this type of fighting game, and your videos have made learning DBFZ a hell of a lot less frustrating! Keep doing what you do dude!
Happy to be of help friend.
Yooooo WhyDo????
yet another fantastic video RM, thank you so much
im still terrible, but my game has improved so much because of your videos
Best Vid on the topic i have found. Watched a lot of youtubers whos instructions were terrible. This vid is truly great in how it covers all variations, and HOW to execute the maneuvers. Good Job!
Also for next on deck: Tomorrow will be Freiza tips&tricks, also thinking about making a video on what to do about excessively jumpy foes.
Same here, rooflemonger is fuking amazing
Alright!! Frieza is my point, cant wait!!
Cool video check this new tech

rooflemonger thank you! I struggle against up backers
Yes! I'm looking forward to it. You're by far my favourite tutor on Fighterz, and I've been wanting to play Frieza better. Great video
:o Hey this is the video I requested! Thank you, it was really helpful to me and I’m sure it was to many others as well!
Dope vid
so crucial for the arsenal
Again, it's like you read my mind! Was looking for a video like this but then you come through. Nice vid!
Just a heads up but level 1 agohan's aerial 214H is a hard knockdown as well, this is the only one i'm aware of besides level 3's and 16 but there might be more, just trying to spread info
Sure is! Found that out after the original recording of this video :-0
I was about to comment the same thing lol
Best dbfz youtuber easily. Im a demon and your tips still help a ton
I love using the down motion and staying on the ground vs pressure mashers. It throws off their timing and gives you a little leverage when it comes to options.
What I like doing is air dragon rushing opponents who wake up high in the air after a sliding knock down in the corner. The only bad thing is that they can punch you out of it, but it works well for people who are very defensive. It also works well when you dragonrush tag out an opponent. So you build up speed and jump to dragon rush the forced tagged in player. But yeah they can still punch you out of it
You have a great channel, all your videos are very helpful. Thanks!
Also just so everybody knows final flash from vegeta in the air is NOT a hard knockdown.
You are a life saver. I had no idea about all these knockdown options. Thank you!
Thanks for making this video
@rooflemonger - maybe you can consider to elaborate (sometime on v2 of this subject) on HOW TO punish after one holds down 2, while sliding; im talking about stanging up whenever you want in the 30frames gap while holding 2. Like for example waiting for an oponent to wiff a meaty and stand up with say a jab ; or wake up throws ... i mean, even waking up eith 2H does wonders. Oh well-
Gratitude m8! your work and videos are amazing!!
This is much needed. Thanks
best defensive guide in DBFZ ever. thanks a lot
Awesome video!
Thanks for all this videos man, they're super useful.
I think you covered a lot of the game already! I can't think of another idea for a good guide video... Maybe how to be good in general stuff? Neutral, block strings, okizeme, footsies, meaties...
There's always plenty more! I keep a little notepad document of ideas of videos to make plus as always I am very open to requests.
I would love a trunks guide on some of his mix ups, and maybe if you could explain how to beat those clashes you get with opponents when you both press the same buttons that would be helpful! Love your videos man keep it up
Holding down can help avoid supers or break combos I love it.
Adult gohans air H ultimate back attack is a true hard knock down
Sure is! Found that out after the original recording of this video :-0
Of all people
Is there anybody else 0-0
android 16 command grab
that is sutch a great vidéo now I can say to my friends that this game have defence options and they will bielive it x)
Awesome video broski, I really appreciate it.
That was very interesting thank you !
Definitely something worth knowing, thank you for sharing this, really usefull for the game
The correctly namw for that is Splatt(sorry for my english), you can see it in mortal kombat with sub-zero (ice clone setup)
YOU sir, make me a better fighter. Thanks roofle!
A video about certain situations where vanish is punishable on block would be cool
There's really only one situation and that's when you are both in the air and the other guys vanish is way above you.
(Insert Incredibles 2 meme) Knockdown is a Knockdown ! KNOCKDOWN IS A KNOCKDOWN !!!
Just a small tip, both SSGSS Goku and Vegeta have Lvl. 1 supers that put an opponent in a true hard knockdown situation.
Pls make a vid on jumping enemies they just drive me nuts
down+H, deflect, jump with them, super dash. WHat more you need?
Air throw make them scared to block.
There seems to be another kind of knockdown that isn't covered here. Aerial capture states don't seem to conform to either a hard knockdown, a soft knockdown or a sliding knockdown. Characters always bounce off the ground from this type of knockdown, forcing an air recovery, so it's obviously not a hard or sliding knockdown, but you can always super or link assists after it so it's not a soft knockdown either. I believe Android 16, Android 21 and Bluegeta's air dunk, Majin Buu's air butt slam and Nappa's air down heavy are all examples of this kind of knockdown. They seem to be bad for followups because I believe you can tech in at least 4 directions including forward, however you can always connect a super after this knockdown.
Dunno if you read these but maybe you could add a notation that Android 16 part got nerfed, so that newer players that didn't know it was nerfed get confused :)
Oh I read em, READ EM ALL THE WAY TO THE BANK. Good idea actually though I will update the video description.
Keep up the good work! Can't wait for more videos, it really helped me to improve at the game and learn how to deal with certian situations :)
If youve seen GO1's adult gohan pressure, do you see a way to get out of it. Even with the reflect, Gohan is just fast. Add that with the usual vegeta assist people have and it becomes one hell of a situation.
Yep, you guard cancel during machinegun legs. Nothing gohan can do about it and you get out for free. EX legs you gotta wait a smidge then guard cancel out.
Hello, thanks for all these awesome videos! You are a great contributor to the fighting game community.
One question: how can I create a sliding knockdown from a raw homing dash? I find the typical L,M,9L,M,H in the air does not cause a sliding knockdown but a soft knockdown.
sliding knockdowns from attacks are based on how high you are up in the air. So if your homing dash hits a grounded foe you will never get the slideout knockdown just a softknockdown.
rooflemonger what do you NOT know?! You're awesome, thank you!
Idk if it's just me but the audio is messed up on this
deflecting all those hellzone grenades was crazy, do you have to time all en spam reflect or how did you do that
Hey i love your vids there so informative. Could you do a overall neutral guide maybe analysis of how you play neutral
Still something I am figuring out myself :-0 Every character has massively different ideas on what to do in that situation.
Now I think i understand why pros will use level 3s despite the opponent having spark....
I'd love to see a video about comboing into sparking.
Love the videos though informative as always, really helps when learning.
I'm often unsure what to comment, but I like supporting content creation... If you feel the same way, leave a comment like this one
Ok so,
Soft knockdowns mid screen - up (further backspring), forward(risky), back for backspring, and delay tech with down ( can follow up with up tech with all knockdowns )
Soft/sliding knockdowns in corner - up tech or delay tech to time a whiff or deflect overheads, low attacks/assists mixups involving high and low. (Always wondered why I got hit so easily in the corner thinking I was guarding by holding back/back down after being knocked down and that was me back rolling into a wakeup combo) so how would I guard on wake up in this situation?
True hard knockdown comes with a fixed wake up time - cannot do anything on wakeup?
Sorry for the long essay, I’ve been focusing on perfecting my defense lately
and as you know at this point adult gohans 214H gives hard KD
+rooflemonger what do you think is the best option usually after a deflect?? Thnkss
Full screen Beams are good to use right after! One of a couple options
Son-Cholo thnkss, you usually use only that option?
Well generally speaking your fast'ish traveling move is your best bet. Like kid buu do the stomps, nappa stand H, 16 the shoulder, most characters stand H honestly. Faster the better though. Watch out for characters who are not deflected easily like cell as he keeps moving forward in.
rooflemonger thanks :)
Wait, you can't wake up reflect a perfect meaty, can you?
Great stuff, can I get a offensive knockdown video?
^
Well that gets a lot into character specifics at that point no generalized stuff.
Sweet, can you do kid buu then?
Thanks for using Waifu 18
Whats the best way to defend them instantly running up after a sliding knockdown and throwing out moves as they see you starting a get up to try to hit you right away? Hold away and down so you instantly block at the first possible chance? I'm guessing the hold down for an instant into deflect would work too if they don't use a low at first either?
Well in that situation as described in the video, if you know for a fact they just gonna attack you on your wakeup, delay(down tech) and deflect beats it 100% of the time. And yes it also beats lows. Deflect always can beat a low however in the situation where people get hit 99% of the time mashing deflect its because you have to stand to do it, and a true block string won't give you a gap to deflect in, so the incoming low hits you.
The offense in this game overwhelms the défense.
Junior Duperval Indeed
AWESOME VIDEO
Should talk about round starters
Hello roofle, can you make a video on advanced air combos. Especially the down circle extension. After I do it once , the second attempt launches the character up. What am I doing wrong.
You are only allowed one "smash" per combo. If you d+H them in the air to get the launcher once, you will not relaunch them. If you hit them with stand heavy you will not be able to d+h launch them in the air either as the standing heavy has used up the "smash"
Not sure but, do you have a video to counter/ use dragon rush, I sometimes have issue countering them or im not sure how to use them more effectively
Its really hard honestly, set up a bot to do it to you and then keep trying to tech it is best practice.
Anyone have tips on how to deal with a rush down from a character in sparking blast? I know it makes their turn longer
Get ready to learn to play defense. Helps to stop the homing dash before it starts though since that's where a lot of that pressure is going to come from.
rooflemonger thanks. I’m still learning the mechanics of this game and dealing with the lag of online play. I used to play MVC2 back in the day. I really wish this game had push blocking.
Does gohans ultimate do different damage depending on solo, goten, goten/goku?
But I mash deflect on wake up and still get hit, and when can you not use assist? I always get a red x when I try but my opponent can spam them all day
Because you're mashing it
He said hold down (to make wake up wake a slightly bit longer)then start reflecting
I was fighting someone knocked him down with gohan/gotenks kanehameha and he got up and level 3 me before I could even get to him. Can anyone explain this
Make of a video showcasing the common gaps characters have when they hit.
Well I kinda don't know all of them, but generally speaking the gaps are 99% going to be when they transition from a normal into a special move or an overhead.
rooflemonger ahh didn't know that, thnx for the reply 🖒
Can you land supers during sliding knockdown? I feel its 50/50 for me. What's the catch? if I'm too late on supers it won't conform???
I'm trying to land t.gohan lvl3 after sliding knockdown
You can land any super after a sliding knockdown yes. However keep in mind they do get up so if you are too slow/fall from too high up in the air it won't work properly.
rooflemonger so if your too high the super won't hit?
That may be my problem i do the combo: 2M,5M,9,M,L,L,2H,L,M,L,2H,9,L,L,L
chrishern1993 ! Hold down so you fall faster
I hope if they ever make a part 2 or a different version on the game (which arc sys loves to do)like DBFZ extend limit that everyone gets a move or at least more characters get a true hard knockdown besides a lvl 3
haha "if". It's basically a guarantee between 1) this being the fastest selling dbz game of all time 2) its an arc sys game. 90% chance we got "Super Dragon ball FighterZ" this time next year.
Can you do a yamcha and trunks (full version) video
I will get around to as many characters as I can in time! Takes time to learn a character to a level where im comfortable enough to make a vid.
why is it so hard to tech dragon rush, I even set a dummy to mash L 5 times a second and it still got grabbed and didn't tech
cause it is
I was playing ranked the other day and came up against a BP player in his fours he absolutely destroyed me with cell. Combo locked me the whole damn time any ideas on how to counter that?
Still wondering?
Is there an universal follow up after a deflect?
What do you think of the current state and the future of C16?
The current state of android 16? He's the about the best overall character in the game thanks to his hard knockdown mixups. The future? Unless there's a balance patch what I just said ain't changing.
what about adult gohan? he seems just as strong (with the right team)
héhé un francais c 16 c'est que an France aux us ils disent android 16 :p
I don't understand why a guy with ssj Goku lvl 3 me and I couldn't block :/ what a cheat
i wanna play but spent 30 mins yesterday with a huge hook n my thumb fighting a 30 pound muskie..at least i got em in
I quit fishing in my teenager years after a pike shredded my hand somethin fierce cause I was dumb and not paying attention takin the hook out :(
can you recover from hard knockdowns
Nope! Thats why they are so strong
Man what bout them people who dash fly in and continue to press square
Shwokes Envy Down heavy destroys super dash my man.
Axiseer thanks man
Android 21 Teleport Loop Tutorial
Won't ever happen in a real match so I don't want to bother with fluff.
What about for jumpy players? I once played someone who all they did was jump jump jump
Junior Hunter down heavy
pity that I do not understand anything of what he says :'v
Should have described soft first then slideout. You fly through concepts and take your viewer knowledge for granted. Seriously you're very confusing in how you provide info. Its actually feels kind of reversed or inverted in the order of presentation. You never even described how a soft knockdown occurs or in what situation. Like how sliding knockdowns are move or height dependent. For a lot of players these knockdowns are kind of mystical. I even have heard misconceptions that some players think you can control whether its sliding or soft defensively. Your video does nothing to prevent that misconception either. Offense and defense are not inexplicably separate concepts. A hit is a move left unguarded. A block is a guarded hit. You teach "Yang-Yin" and split the concept into pieces. It's a nice little booster pack of information I suppose. Thank you.
