    When I took auto body back in high school the shop teacher gave us old car hoods like this to practice on. They're perfect for learning how to pull dents and reshape metal. He had us spending hours in class working out the imperfections in those hoods before we could even think about laying down a primer coat let alone any base color.
    What's great about them is if your results becoming a steaming pile in the end you just sand it back down and start again until you get better. Sadly I never was able to get a job in a shop after I graduated. So what I learned kind of went to waste over the years. It's a great skill to have but it's also made it very difficult for me to do any projects that are of interest. Because if I can't do it correctly the first time I'd rather not do it at all. And because having the proper shop and tools to do the job are out of my price range I never start anything. 😂
    Eventually once I have all of the needed stuff acquired to get back into painting I'm gonna have to start back on hood-practice again. 😁

    It is not the exact pad of the Rupes. After rinsing my blue Bauer pad under water, the Velcro came off the pad. I work in a collision repair shop and use Rupes pads daily and I can rinse and spin those pads out for countless times without them coming unglued. I do love the plastic storage containers though. I use them to store my good pads. The Bauer pads would be ok for one vehicle

    • @olie_olie_paintz
      @olie_olie_paintz  Год назад +3

      Two totally different styles of polishing! The Bauer is a traditional long throw which is great for beginners! This is a forced rotation which has the ability to cut like a rotary but finish beautiful like a long throw! A lot more power but a smaller throw. They both work great but the Bauer is a great starting point!

    • @jdisdetermined
      @jdisdetermined Год назад

      @@jacobshank9362 To an extent. But saying 510 dusts and M100 dusts, while both true, are worlds apart. 510 dusts a bit if pushed, 100 dusts like it’s proud of it. One is pretty much completely dustless. So I put a drop of One on the pad with 500/510 if I’m pushing it. For the way I polish, that pretty much eliminates dust for me.
      But yes, most “dustless” compounds will still dust if pushed far enough. 510 is amazing, but it does dust fairly easily for a 3D compound. That’s probably why Mike used a DA, foam, and a lot of it, because on wool and a rotary, using normal amounts, it dusts sooner than it should. Sooner than 500. But it also cuts harder and finishes a bit better in my experience. So for heavy polishing after wet sanding texture, I prefer 510. For regular paint correction, just going after swirls and the like, I use One 95% of the time.

      That's always been my questions. It would've great if we had steps for each pad and the speeds for each use so beginners such as me won't burn the paint with all my black cars I do have

    • @user-ci2xg7rq5y
      @user-ci2xg7rq5y 6 месяцев назад

      @@paulstewart612unless your paint has seen a lot of work burning through through it just isn't going to happen. You can compound on the same area for 10 straight minutes with a ln aggressive pad and not burn through. When you're doing normal compounding you may spend 5 seconds on any given spot over 3-4 passes and you're never building the same heat to swell the clear. It's just not going to happen through normal technique unless your paint has been through A LOT.
