I think you're spot on and I wish more RUclipsrs were more honest with reviews, I purchased mine 2 years ago and for the £500 I spent on the unit and 3-year subscription, I felt cheated. The unit is bulky, the software is temperamental and the battery life is pathetic. The concept is great but, as my unit stopped working 2 months ago, I've picked up 3 fines, typically doing 36 in a 30 zone!
I'm frustrated with this organisation for several reasons, they charge premium prices but don't have a premium product, it's dated both form factor and software wise and because of that I've received 9 points on my licence which was the whole reason I paid £500 for it in the first place to prevent that happening.

Ive had a RA for a few years and my major gripe is that the software is not up to date despite me advising them of areas where their speed limits are way out of date, especially on the A14 and the road to Cottenham with a new school and changed speed limits. The defects Ive noted cant be the only ones where the software is out of date.
The subs are too high too. I am not paying for a smart motorway sub as only very occassional use of them and I think it should be included with the basic sub.

So informative, didn’t see this the last time I looked on Road Angel reviews.
HGV driver and looks like I am possibly going to be getting 9 points very shortly. This road angel is what I need, Waze is great but it’s on the phone and that brings its own problems.
Great and helpful review, never done this before, very impressed.
    Thank you

Brilliant review, thanks. My suggestion, trademark software, then approach the big four: Audi, Mercedes etc and get the manufaturers to upload the Road Angel software to their system.

I think that loyalty should always be rewarded. It stinks when the inverse is true and very short sighted of the company's like Road Angel. Looking after loyal customer is always rewarded, even if the short term there is a slight decrease in income. The risk is that they start to lose out to other companies....which is already impacting on Road Angel....watch this space!!

I use WAZE for the Police camera warnings, but it seems the verbal warnings come very late from the phone allowing the long range mobile laser cameras to take your photo before the verbal warning. So now I look along the route for the police symbol. So not ideal. And the annoying thing with waze is it only warns you of a speed camera if your speeding so if you decide to speed up at the speed camera location you will be done so I set my cruise on 73mph so it warns me. Love your channel and your DIY Facebook group. Cheers

Also be aware of the short sections of overtaking lanes, despite being two lanes they are NOT 70 mph but still 60, On the A9 south of Inverness a camera van parks sometimes nearby. There are no signs advising of the 60 limit and usually people speed up to overtake above 60. So a road angel will warn you of this..I hope.

    Love the videos👍🏻
Road Angel does look dated but if it works surely that can't be a bad thing. I had never heard of WAZE before & just about to DL it to my iPhone until I read the 'data linked to you' part. The following data may be collected and linked to your identity.
    1. Purchases
    2. Location
    3.User Content
    4.Identifiers
    5. Diagnostics
    6. Financial info!!!!!
    7.Contact info
    8. Search history
    9. User data
    10. Other data.
That's is a lot of info one app wants to run and I see no way of turning that off. obviously some are needed to run the app but others are just plainly intrusive.

I think the road angel is a great device. I just want it to be developed before its left behind.
I can't comment on what waze does with your information but I would assume alot of it is for the targeted adverts that make the app free. Waze is the app of choice it seems for professional drivers and they have a well established reputation.
      Thanks for watching!

The whole point of Road Angel is the built in radar detector, for detecting the police vans and laser guns, it's worth it's weight in gold and is a lot better than getting points and eventually losing your license.

I’ve found GPS on my iPhone 11 Pro Max to be unreliable when using speed apps and Sat nav apps. Dedicated GOS units should be more reliable. My Garmin Sat nav works when my phone GPS drops out.

I think the best device could be the Laser jamming device, but illegal in the UK I think ? But there are companies that fit them !

  • @wrightfamily4373
    @wrightfamily4373 2 года назад

Totally agree I think Road Angel get around it by making you buy optional windscreen mounted laser detectors or a front mounted connection via Bluetooth.
I wouldn’t necessarily think Usb-c would be the next thing I think USB should be dropped altogether and go wireless charger make it just drop onto a charging base.

    • @CorpsMedia
      @CorpsMedia  2 года назад

They already have the magnetic mount for charging that is really good. But micro USB is pretty old tech now for data transfer. I'm pretty sure I read that it's being mandated now for future phones to have USB C as a standardisation plan.
      Thanks for watching the video

Unfortunately the subscription should be much cheaper, as you state you should be able to link it to your fone and use your own mobile data which would make the unit cheaper.

Another APP I've used in the past was AmiGO I believe it is a smart phone app powered by TomTom. On android it has a widget feature that does something similar to the Road Angel in displaying the road speed limit alongside your speed limit with adjustability on warnings wether it be over the limit by a little a fixed tolerance or when approaching fixed speed cameras. Apple has less functionality than Android however.

Hi, I'm looking for a device that just tells me the speed limit on the road I am on !!!! I don't want to use my phone to be able to do this, due to killing the phone battery. I personally don't care what it looks like ... I just want to be told if I am going over the speed limits. Very interesting and informative videos on the device. Yes, I'm not happy about a subscription. Do I care less on looks being a woman in her 50's .. probably not .... If anything I would like a vent mount to go with it as I move around different vehicles. Thank you for your videos :)

  • @Subricaro

Had one then ditched it for WAZE. Speed camera detector doesn’t detect anything (drove by several, never went off). Didn’t understand height so if you’re on an overpass it told you the speed limit for the road below. Nowhere near as quickly updated as WAZE is. Total waste of money.

If someone can just create a bluetooth Rader/laser deteter as a standard data protocol for App like Waze, it will be much better
and the Road safty part it realy sound bull XXXX
When you create a app that don't have button, people can do much with it anyway

Lots of talk about form factor issues and your appetite for an app, nowhere near enough detail about its features and performance. Waze is good but also quite vulnerable to police officers dishonestly reporting their own presence at perceived speeding hotspots.

A giveaway? Throw it in the bin. It's a dated form factor, which tells me there's a lack of development. A laser detector? By the time you're notified, it's too late. All in all, it isn't very good and it looks awful!
