John deere 7280R IVT rebuild

  • Failed input planetary caused metal contamination of whole transmission.
    What is IVT transmission:
    The IVT provides a seamless range of speeds with no gaps. No clutching is required to start or stop the tractor. The footbrake with integrated AutoClutch performs like the brake in a car; simply depress both brakes and the transmission ratios down to a stop from any ground speed.

    JD must have a significant warranty fund bucket... this is the third IVT repair I've watched on RUclips in a few days - all under warranty.

      I was thinking the same thing. I mean it's cool to watch them crack it all apart but if it's a newish tractor that just shows how under engineered the tranny is. And it also not good for PR.

    Oh my gosh!! That is what it takes to rebuild John Deere's IVT and that's how it's made?? Wow! Great job by you performing the repair but you and everyone else really need to see the Agco/Fendt CVT if you have not. The real variable transmission. In 120 hours of labor you could replace 5 CVT's if you had to. But, yes I know, this is John Deere so that means it's the right way and is the best!

    Excellent work. But daym John Deere build their tractors overly complicated. I can split my Valtra T213 in half a day and have it rebuilt in 2 days. The Hours these guys spent to fix this is frightening.

  • @bayareaartist999
    @bayareaartist999 2 года назад +3

    if it was a full warranty repair, why didn't JD just ship a reman out to replace it so they can take the original tear it down and figure why it failed. Something doesn't sit right? Are these tractors under engineered? And someone needs to redesign the systems so they can be taken apart quickly and efficiently. These tractors look like they were designed by mission creep and now they are so large and complex they are a detriment to themselves. At a minimum the transmission needs a magnetic plug mounted in the sump that is easily accessible to see about metal in the oil. One thing for sure is that you don't buy any big green iron without a bulletproof warranty.

    Our family has run John Deere equipment for 3 generations unfortunately you couldn’t pay me enough money to run some of this new crap. There was one of these at our local dealer going through the same repair because a $3.10 snap ring failed and a train wreck ensued. I have no idea how they even sell one of these things.

    John Deere IVT was a fail from the start.There are two cases of exactly this in my county that i know of.And we are not talking about some serious working hours,one of them 4000+,the other around 6500 hours.I think it's time to stay away from John deere altogether,their fame and glory ended in the 90's and its only getting worse

      Hey hab meine Ausbildung bei nem John Deere Händler gemacht. Und das ist ein IVT Getriebe also das stufenlose Getriebe von John Deere. Das ist wahrscheinlich einer von den ersten 7R’s die rausgekommen sind. Die gingen ja nur bis 7280R mit der 9.0 Liter Maschine.
      Und die hatten immer Irgendwelche Probleme. Von undichten Magnetventiellen oder die Schaltgabel für Vorwärts/rückwärts fahren wen sie in der Miete silage geschoben haben.....
      Die erste Serie war schon echt Fehleranfällig, die neuen sollen besser sein. Aber die hatten dan ne Garantie von 5000h bekommen so mit musste der Kunde nur den Ausfall selber tragen.

  • @charleslease9741

    I thought we had it bad in the automotive but as far as the tractors world just to get to the transmission have to rip the whole tractor apart and we have to rip the front of the motor off just to get the one sensor and we bitch about it that’s nothing tractor technicians have it worse And everything you have to use a cherry picker just pick a part up at least in the automotive we could use our hands that’s why the labor bill is so high on John Deere

    • @mkmechanical
      @mkmechanical  2 года назад +1

      I do automotive, AG, and construction and I like to keep it that way. Every industry has something unique to learn from and it is very interesting to see similarities across engineering. As for the bill... you know for sure how expensive is to be an automotive tech with all the tools, the heavy industry is another game, especially being mobile tech. I would say 10x the investment and that's the reason why the bill is what it is.
