Lee Valley sell a green tape that has stretch in it for "clamping" I use it often with good results

The tape they sell is 3m 233+. It’s amazing. They market it as “binding tape” for guitar binding. It’s really automotive tape.
Harbor freight (believe it or not) sells 3m automotive tape. Exact same color. 1/4” wider. And I think it has the exact same stretch to it.

@@MakeSomething Also, Stew Mac sells a similar brown tape, I use that all the time for my woodworking, high tack, a bit stretchy, and strong, so, doesn't break like the blue tape. Not that I don't use the blue tape for everything else in the shop!
The best part about this design is that it makes it impractical to install the roll in the improper underhanded fashion.
I use the cheapest packing tape I can find for gluing up mitre joints. The packing tape stretches incredibly well when pulling mitres like that together. Super cool project David!

I like everything about it except for the bulk storage, I think one extra roll would be enough, unless it’s going in a sorority house.
This is kept in mind for the person who's responsible for restocking. This way they don't have to do it so often! 😄
Electrical tape stretches too for clamping. Don’t know which is less expensive. Sweet project Dave love the added phone stand. 😀
I was thinking the same thing. But every time I want to tape a joint, I can't find my roll of electrical tape. LOL ( Longtime woodworker)

I never knew it was a thing but the wife quickly corrected me that `over the top` is in fact, the correct way.

I think you should've named this video to indicate it solves three problems at the same time. The third problem solved being that people can only hang toilet paper the correct way (over the top).

Haha ... I've literally been working on making a toilet roll holder for the shop the last few days! Even turned my own roller! I'm using recycled oak drawer fronts and will be mounted to the wall. While it's not a stand, I DID incorporate a phone shelf on the top! It'll be nice to finally not have to reach for TP (or the phone), at the back of the toilet any longer! lol

Surprisingly enough, there is an objective reason for the roll to go over the top.
Over the top, the paper is significantly less likely to come in contact with the wall behind it.
In depth reasoning:
The wall behind the roller is the most overlooked part of the bathroom when it comes to cleaning.
It is also fully exposed to the blast of bacteria that comes from flushing the toilet - even with the lid closed.
TP is, by design, a very thin sponge. It will collect bacteria, even when dry. So, it can absorb more bacteria from the wall than the floor, as the floor is more often cleaned than the wall.
It's not something you would then want to abrasively rub against your more sensitive areas.

The only proper solution for that is electrocution.
Over -the-top 100%. 1000 sheets per roll x 5 = 5000 sheets. I think that will handle the job!! I am going to make one of these. Just finished a few more boxes from your awesome band saw box book. They make great Xmas gifts. People love them.

Clear hockey tape has plenty of stretch. Never tried it for clamping but it may be worth a shot
Over the top I made one a couple years ago in the style of a outhouse keep up the good work

i want to do one of these organizers but for the kitchen, to hold the annoying items: cling wrap, tin foil, paper towels, and kitchen cloths. These things need a dedicated space!
