I guess this is why you chose your Wander for this video because tapping can be hard on the fingers with the Ubass with the Round Wounds only because it would hurt eventually over time I recon. I know because when I tap on my Music Man Sterling short-scale "Daphne" electric bass, especially if I do it for a while, it hurts a lot more than it does if I do tapping for the same length of tapping on my Hofner "Shorty" electric bass with Flats on it. I can Tap on my "Oscar" Ukulele Bass with the Thunder Red strings on them but I can never get those synthetic gut strings to sound as loud as metal stings on any of my 2 electric basses for some reason when I tap on them, I guess it's something I have to work on, or it's just the nature of those strings possibly LOL. What Distortion pedal are you using anyway? Something new? Again, finger-tapping pain aside (LOL), wouldn't the distortion sound more natural maybe on a Ubass with Metal Strings whether they were flat or round wound strings (like an actual EVH Guitar or Bass has)? Anyway, Great Video as always, and by the way, your tapping is so good in this video, forget EVH, you gave Famed RUclips Bassist known for his Tapping chops Charles Berthoud a run for his money (you know who he is (Don't pretend you do not LOL)). Seriously, No Joke. LOL. Then I say LOL at the end of this sentence, Geez. If you are doing a live stream at the same Bat time and Channel (which would be tomorrow (Thursday 2/9/2023 at 7:00 PM)) I will be there. If there are any technical issues this time. that makes you stop and start again like last time, no worries. Also if you need to start earlier for schedule reasons again, not a big deal. I will start checking for your live stream starting around 6:00 PM just in case you start earlier and if not, no big deal. If you skip your live stream till the following week or a different day based on schedules, no big deal either, just let me know which day you plan to be on so I can participate in whatever you have planned for the February Live Stream. I hope all has been well with you otherwise. As far as myself goes, To Quote the Metal Bands Megadeath or Meshugah "So Far. So Good, So what" LOL. - Cheers. 😀
Hi Seth, Thank you so much for the comparison to Charles! I'm not quite where he's at, but I'm definitely inspired by him! I chose the Wanderer mostly because I liked the idea of using the polyurethane strings with distortion to see how well it worked since most people have those strings. However, the benefit of the less-effort-tapping was certainly a perk. As far as the distortion, this is the Line 6 HX STOMP pedal. I got it for guitar, and this effect is the "VH Jump JS" patch, so it inspired the lesson. This pedal also has some bass effects, so I will most likely be demoing some of the features on the live stream, which is tonight at 7pm Eastern. I hope all is well with you, and look forward to seeing you on the live stream! Cheers!
I have a question. How does the UBass sound like when not connected or connected and playing via the amp with headphones on. I live in apartments and can't have it where you can hear in the next room if it's loud. I've been wanting to buy one for a long time.
It's very quiet without an amp unless you have metal strings, but you can still hear it a bit louder than an unplugged solid body instrument. I doubt it would be loud enough to bug the neighbors, but they do make solid body bass ukuleles as well. With an amp and headphones, it should sound good to you and be quiet enough for the neighbors. Thanks for watching!
It’s like watching Paul McCartney play EVH!
Thanks! Haha
