👍 True story. I found this recipe on another channel. (I usually look at a 2nd channel just to see if amounts and ratios all seem ok.) But after watching you and your straight-forward, EASY teacher-like way of explaining how to make this... I deleted the other and followed YOURS! Really good. Love your style, and confidence! Thank you. (Retired Science Teacher).
From Ireland myself and can most definitely confirm that this makes a gorgeous loaf !! Thanks alot for the recipe, reminds me of home :) Have a good one !!
This is my favorite Irish soda bread recipe that I've tried so far. It's more bread-like than recipes with butter and eggs, which turn out more like cake, IMO. This recipe also is so incredibly easy and the result is delicious. I also like that the bread is a smaller size than others. BTW I use 1 cup whole wheat flour and 1 1/4 cup AP white flour. I toss some flour on a cookie sheet, put the loaf on top of the flour and bake it for about 45 minutes. No need for parchment paper. Thank you so much for this recipe!
Awesome @KJue ! I completely agree, I like simple and delicious Irish Soda Bread, no need for the enriching ingredients in this recipe. Great take on subbing in some Whole Wheat! I love that idea! I wish you all the Best Baking! :)
I bake it the same way. But if I wanted to do the dutch oven thing, I would prepare it on the cookie sheet as usual and turn the dutch oven upside down over the loaf on the cookie sheet. Naturally I would have to find a dutch oven that fit well on my cookie sheet.
Thank you. I tried this, because I love crusty bread. I loved it and I am going to bake another today - I may not have enough raisins but I will use what I have. I am keeping the ingredients screen shot on my phone.
Oh my goodness, this is one of my favorite bread. I look for this every St. Patrick's Day. You have a new friend here I hope you'll keep in touch. God bless.
l was looking for my old recipe book for my Irish Soda Bread and could not find it, so l decided to go online and look for one. l came across yours, which looked fast and easy, being l had so much cooking to do and made it. I've got to tell you that no one liked it they said it had no taste, so l would rethink doing any more baking!
Hi Mary! This recipe doesn't include those enriching ingredients, like butter and sugar, that a lot of bakeries include. So, yeah, it's a pretty basic bread! There's a great website (sodabread.info) that explains the history of traditional Irish soda bread, and how it was simply a daily loaf. However, if you like things to taste differently, live it up and change the recipe to your liking. As for me and baking, I simply enjoy it too much to take your advice. Keep enjoying your passions though.
I am French and I just try to make this Bread .It IS in thé oven and I think It will be ok...😜 I have no buttermilk in France so I tried to make it with milk and lemon juice. In ten minutes will it be good for 5 o'clok tea ? Thanks you for this receipe, very clear. My américain husband will be thé taster !
There is a local small store that sells Cranberry - Orange soda bread and it's dusted with coarse sugar. I'd love to make that - but I don't do a lot of baking........suggestions? pretty sure it doesn't also have walnuts but it's super good and they get it from a bakery somewhere.
That sounds delicious! Yeah I would substitute dried (maybe rehydrated in a 1/4 cup hot water) cranberries instead of the raisins and then the zest of 1 orange at the same time you add the cranberries. I’ll be trying that too😊
Could cinnamon sugar be swirled into the dough so that is marbled with the cinnamon and sugar? A local bakery (out of business now) made an apple / walnut / cranberry bread that was delicious and we used it to make grilled cheese sandwiches with extra sharp cheese.
Would appreciate being able to write down ingredients and quantity needed, have made soda bread many times but different recipes are always worth trying, paused and rewound this video 6 times to get ingredients and method shame!
@@jojoz981 Hi! It's 425'F for 30 min covered, then uncover for an additional 15 min (same temp) You can click over to around Time Stamp 2:50 and see the info again!
You might get a little bit of a chewier texture and it's possible it won't rise as high because of the gluten content, but as long as you don't over-work the flour when mixing and shaping, it's worth the experiment! Let me know how it goes.
Hi Michael! A bread machine (to my knowledge) is designed to work with yeast raised dough, so you would not put this recipe in there. Baking soda provides the lift in this soda bread so it’s very simple to put together by hand. Try it out! Maybe it’s less clean up too?
One of my fav bread recipes, along with rye bread. ❤

Can we cover bread with aluminum foil then bake in the oven?
Please advise
Yep! You could also use an overturned cake pan if it offers enough room for the bread to grow!
What temp is the oven set at?
