"It doesn't just sound like a bunch of notes" - It's odd how different people can have such diametric opinions to the same thing. To me, the majority of this song did sound like just a bunch of notes being played fast just for the sake of playing fast. It sounds like something that belongs on an early, pre-Marty Megadeth album (which is not a good thing, in my opinion). This song pales in comparison to anything on Dragon's Kiss, Scenes, Introduction, or True Obsessions.

***** That's total bullshit. If you were to watch Japanese tv, it's nothing but AKB48 (and all those underage half-wit "sister" groups like NMB48), Arashi (the new SMAP), and Exile (the wannabe black dancers). Metal is never on tv (babymetal is NOT fucking metal) and normal Japanese people find it to be just noise (sounds like what my grandfather used to say to me). That's not being "open-minded," it's being a TV station that sells out to whatever is popular and ignores everything that doesn't fit with the idea of "ignorance is bliss." Just yesterday, a tv commercial was taken off the air for being "too realistic" about the hardships of finding work. Yeah, ignore everything bad and be ignorant to the rest of the world (or even your own goddamn country).
Dyskit I have lived in Japan almost as long as Marty (and speak Japanese better than Marty btw). Rock Fujiyama was cancelled years ago and it was NOT a nationwide program. That makes perfect sense, because the first thing I thought while watching this video was "Marty, man, you've spent too much time in Japan, because this makes no sense to my western-sensibilities; I just don't get what the point of the women running aimlessly is".
So glad to see him do a whole heavy album. I had the incredible opportunity to jam with him in Chicago, it was truly life changing. It's on my channel.

Supercollider was an embarrassment, even when compared to Th13teen and Endgame which were still listenable.
Courtland Sedlachek If Marty joined Megadeth again and Dave would listen to him ,Megadeth would never grow stale... Marty is too creative to be doing the same thing over and over again for 10 years. Then again, not sure Megadeth would keep being Megadeth :). That being said i like both, but Megadeth arent' what they used to be.
Exactly! The Friedman-era is the definitive Megadeth lineup. technical abilities, yes broderick is the best that megadeth has ever had, so in a sense, dave is right. But marty is way better at writing songs then chris is.
Marty's is so much better! Broderick isn't even more technically advanced IMO. Marty could easily pull off all of his stuff but I don't think Broderick could play Marty's new stuff
Ryan Clayton He is different, but when it comes down to it guitar ability can't be measured in how fast you can play or how many fingers you can tap with. It's all about being unique, doing your own thing and not sounding like everybody else. Broderick is a typical shredder, Marty is way more than a shredder.

Both are guitarplayers, both have played metal, both have played the same genre, and they have both played in the same band with the same people (almost). I read that since he's lived in Japan for so long, it's a tribute to the Japanese show Zenryokusaka (which I saw meaning either Full Power Hill or Full Steam a'hill), which literally plays every day for 5 minutes with different girls running up and down different hills.
Marty Friedman is the reason I learned to play guitar, yes Megadeth is my favourite band; but Marty isn't in it anymore and I wish people would just shut up comparing him to them or telling him he's gone down since them. He doesn't need a vocalist, he doesn't need Mustaine. Marty practically carried Megadeth to success through the 90's. Martys solo stuff is unique because of his playing style and sound. The raw passion he puts behind his guitar is like no other guitarist I've heard.
Więcej Opcji Well not that my opinon Matters but i thing 1/3 of Countdown to Extinction Tracks were still pretty Thrash especially the Last 3 But of COURSE Nowhere near Rust in Peace
It's not necessarily the ability to simply play fast alone or by itself that make guitarists like Marty Friedman good players; it's the way that people like him can contrast many different and diverse soloing styles such as fast playing with slower and/or moderate speeds on the guitar as well, as well as seamless transitions between licks or section that, when done well, requires a special kind of gift and ability. Along with that, there include many other different factors apart from just speed or "showing off", such as dynamics - the way different volumes the guitar can be played at, whether louder or softer - and intervals - the way different scale patterns, and/or arpeggios, can be implemented into one's guitar soloing, and, when done right, can be magical if played any other instrument besides just the guitar in general (unless you're the drummer). Oh, and likely one of the most essential skills to implement is, while you're at it, don't forget a touch of emotion.
Weird stuff... Like Marty has been doing over the years after Megadeth... but it reminds me of craziness from Cacophony era... The video is weird, but I like the crazy guitars
Well Marty has been living in Japan for the last decade and I'm sure their culture has rubbed off on him. This video is not "weird" compared to Japanese culture LOL
Very true, friedman was tha shit in megadeth, but they were still great even after he left.... but now they're shit for sure... they'll always be my favorite band over all tho
Agreed, brodericks cool too, very technical player. I loved endgame and even stuff off thirteen, but i can't even pretend to like super collider for a second, it jus ran their name/standard into the ground for me..
That's exactly what I said! The instrumentals are pure speed metal. He's kind of contradicting himself with this. But nonetheless, I'm glad he didn't go into pop music.
If you type Marty's name in google it says, "Official site of the lead guitarist in Megadeth" underneath the first search. While Nick Menza's official site says, "former drummer of Megadeth." I think he may be coming back.
Doyledeth Well I never realized that before. Funny thing though. But I don't think that it is a sign for a future collaboration. It's just a good advert for his own stuff. :)
it's funny how Marty went away from Megadeth to seek new sounds and tones and yet this song is more 'megadethish' than anything Mustaine has created since Endgame...
c4bb4g3 I partially agree dude, however Cacophony wasn't that heavy, this track even has a bit of a blast beat and much more 'brutal' drive than the guitar duo, add vocals and you have a Megadeth song :P
Guitar isn’t always about how many notes you can play in ten seconds. Guitarists like Friedman care more about staying in key and executing complex patterns than conveying emotion, which sometimes required technical imperfections. That’s why less technical, more emotional guitarists like Hendrix and David Gilmour have staying power and a lot of pure shredders feel hollow. If sweep picking and 32nd-note noodling is your thing, that’s fine. Just don’t act like people who feel happier listening to emotional guitarists like Hendrix are wrong, or that guitarists who don’t shred aren’t good. Talent isn’t all about technical skills. Many technical guitarists have incredible skills and showmanship, but lack the heart & soul that made Hendrix a legend in the first place. Hendrix was way ahead of his time, a creative genius in the studio with the sounds he could get out of his guitar, and played leads in ways no one had heard before him ps:i personally knows how shred guitar is and sounds,i was and i am still a guitar shred lover.
Panos Arvanitis ΟFFICIAL RUclips Channel I assume you are referring to the article where Marty mentioned that he would rather eat glass than listen to Hendrix ?? Did you bother to read the article though ?? Cause I don't think he meant that literally nor did he mean to talk shit about Hendrix. What i got from the article was that he just wasn't a fan of Hendrix that's all. Apparently he worded it the way he would "speak to his friends".
***** You must be troll. If you don'y like what I say, piss off and comment on something else. I'll say what i wanna say and i will critisize and compare whoever i want dude.
Marty Friedman, still in my top 3 guitar players of all time. Melody and skills like very few others. Him and Paul Gilbert were my most influential players.
I absolutely love this! Marty is my brother and musical guru. I am honored to have collaborated with him on a track on his new album.

slycordinator
thx!
That or he lives in Japan. In one interview he said he will never move back to America, because Japan is the perfect place for him.
Not gonna lie, when it only showed the boots at first, I was like okay, so that's Marty Friedman. Then the skirt showed up and I was like, never mind.
The raw passion he puts behind his guitar is like no other guitarist I've heard.
splendid work, Marty're great. Congratulations, hope you in Argentina. I love u !
Didn't Marty leave Megadeth because he wasn't into this kind of music??
+Nate Fontana
He left Megadeth because he wanted to NOT ONLY play Thrash Metal
Więcej Opcji
Well not that my opinon Matters but i thing
1/3 of Countdown to Extinction Tracks were still pretty Thrash especially the Last 3
But of COURSE Nowhere near Rust in Peace
+Nate Fontana He left, cause he wanted to make his own music - like this - and not be Dave's slave
aaahhh gossips
TOTALLY AGREED!
what a weird fucking song and video clip. i dont get it, but i love it.
2000 notes a minute just does nothing for me personally. Guitar gymnastics, yeah! Loved his work with Mustaine though.
probably if you stopped bitching for a second and tried to actually listen to the great dynamics of his guitar work you'd discover something
No, scratch that; a *HEAP of emotion.
Neither does it for Marty, good thing he doesn't do that.
"ToolFan68". Opinion discarded.
(Just kidding of course)
Welcome back Marty!!! Awesome as fcking always!
How good is marty!!!
These girls aren't running fast enough for these riffs.
First 2 minutes are kind of bad... but after that it's amazing.
You did it again Marty you blew me away again! Just awesome
About 3 minute in you FINALLY here Marty let loose a bit in his classic style. Hang in for the finale also! It's the Marty we came here to see!
Megadeth haves really fallen off track since friedman.
Listen to super collider then back to this.
I'd rather listen to Super Collider and this.
Very true, friedman was tha shit in megadeth, but they were still great even after he left.... but now they're shit for sure... they'll always be my favorite band over all tho
Super Collider was alright. I like Chris Broderick just as much as I like Friedman
Agreed, brodericks cool too, very technical player. I loved endgame and even stuff off thirteen, but i can't even pretend to like super collider for a second, it jus ran their name/standard into the ground for me..
Lol now go listen to Dystopia. And come back and say they have fell off.
Thought he left megadeth cuz it wasn't pop enough -_- this is metal as fk!!
That's exactly what I said! The instrumentals are pure speed metal. He's kind of contradicting himself with this. But nonetheless, I'm glad he didn't go into pop music.
Yeah true, atleast he ain't pop now...
Hi bro ! Mustaine is calling you !! Pick up the fucking phone ! |m|
Hi bro ! Mustaine is calling you !! Pick up the fucking phone ! |m| [2]
answer the phone marty the time has come
4:53 - 5:06 is one of the best licks that I have ever listened to
Un grande chitarrista, ed un ottimo album!!!
Paying prostitutes to run down the street is a clever and ethical way to save on the film budget I guess...
Allen dman lol...
cheesy video but great song....
I'm dead xD You made my day
I tried picking like Marty a couple of times. My hand started to hurt after just a couple of minutes every time.
+K Dilkington Same, when I tried to play Tornado of Souls solo, my hands gets tired, it's too fast !!
it's funny how Marty went away from Megadeth to seek new sounds and tones and yet this song is more 'megadethish' than anything Mustaine has created since Endgame...
Actually, it's more like Cacophony. As it should be :) I've missed this side of Marty
c4bb4g3 Reminded me of the Rust In Peace era too, at least the last couple of solos
c4bb4g3 I partially agree dude, however Cacophony wasn't that heavy, this track even has a bit of a blast beat and much more 'brutal' drive than the guitar duo, add vocals and you have a Megadeth song :P
One of the best guitarrist of the history of metal. Big. Wonderful!!!!!!
tremendos solos.
Hendrix was way ahead of his time, a creative genius in the studio with
the sounds he could get out of his guitar, and played leads in ways no
one had heard before him
ps:i personally knows how shred guitar is and sounds,i was and i am still a guitar shred lover.
Panos Arvanitis ΟFFICIAL RUclips Channel *Many technical guitarrist have incredible skills and showmanship* jajaja Michael Angelo Batio please
Emmanuelle de jesus...who asked you nerd shit?
Hannivas jaja a MAB fangirl
Hannivas lol, grow up men .
And Dave Mustaine saw that and said "Let's take Kiko in Megadeth". Seriously ? Marty stills kicks major ass!
He asked marty but marty wasn't interested
+TeoKeh Dave didn't have a choice. Marty refused Mustaines offer.
Scottishwolf89 I know. Still liked Kiko's work in the new album. Not on par with Marty's play but still very good.
***** You must be troll. If you don'y like what I say, piss off and comment on something else. I'll say what i wanna say and i will critisize and compare whoever i want dude.
+TeoKeh lol get more butthurt about the truth. I love it
Marty Friedman is weird al yankovich's long lost brother
+smoshfan587 Along with Mikael Akerfeldt. And also Italian Spiderman.
Marty Friedman, still in my top 3 guitar players of all time. Melody and skills like very few others. Him and Paul Gilbert were my most influential players.
the last minute of this song is just utter perfection
