Hahaha the struggles of being bilingual is forgetting your first language after learning your second language. Your Vietnamese is way better than mine now! When I visit, you can translate for me 😆
I wish I spent more time learning Vietnamese before I visited. I speak 3 languages and every time I'm in a country where I cannot communicate I feel like I miss out on so much. This is proven by your experiences. In Vietnam and Korea I felt this most. I must learn and go back!!!!
Thank you for your video. It does bring back a lot of my memories in Vietnam. Welcome to Quang Ngai where my father hometown is. There is a lot of delicious dishes nearby the place you ate My Quang like Chao Luon (eel congee with tumeric) and Chao Long (pork intestine congee) I would recommend in raining season. I have been in Canada for 4 years and I have not had a chance to visit Quang Ngai. Anw, I hope you enjoy your time and happy lunar new year.
Thank you for supporting the tree/ plant growers in your last video. Hope the trees are well! They will be happy if you set them outside during the rain. Or if you can not take them out. Just give the roots a good soak in the sink roughly once a week. However you want the plant to be dry before next watering. I grow Bonsai in the states. Let me know if I can help any! Really enjoying your videos.
Đón tết ở việt nam rất vui luôn ạ, e ở xa mỗi giờ ăn phải mở video chris review ở việt nam xem sẽ cảm giác nhớ và rất thỏa nỗi nhớ quê, hi vọng hè tới mình sẽ sớm được về vn, rất thích sự chân thành lịch sự dễ thương của chris, rất thích video của chris, ủng hộ chris
Pickled is the word you were looking for! Love it how you know the word in vietnamese but forget it in english. It means you have lived in VN too long :-)
98 million and 1 people in veitnam, and there you are walking down a small street in DA Nang. Mind you it isn't hard to miss you. Keep up the good work showcasing what a great country and people of veitnam
You are speaking Vietnamese very well , I’m so impressed thank you I like your videos. Chúc mừng năm mới chúc cháu vạn sự như ý khỏe mạnh và hạnh phúc nhé.
Chris you seem very happy with life lately .. your positively glowing.. I sense love in the air.. the noodle dish looked yum …made my mouth water with the thought… 🙏🏻 dots friend !!
Chris: I am a second generation Vietnamese America living in Los Angeles and San Diego. We LOVE your generosity and caring nature! Letting my 2 sons watch you to learn Vietnamese :) Will support you to 1 million subscribers. You’re an old Vietnamese soul!!!
Shrimp shell is always an issue in Vietnam, probably in other Asian countries too. We westerners prefer to take the shell off (and we don't usually like the head). I noticed that you also did not remove the legs, which of course have shell on them too. Me, I prefer to take shells off. I didn't notice if your friend removed his shells. But typically, Vietnamese will just eat it whole with the shell still on. So any dish that has shrimp or prawns, it almost always is served with the shell on.
Your videos are so interesting. Complete immersion into Vietnamese culture. I wonder how you learned to speak Vietnamese so fluently? I regard tonal languages as the most difficult ones to learn.
@@vutrinh8636 i tried Japanese before and reached a level where I can talk about simple daily topics but the Vietnamese seems harder even to begin with. What would you recommend me to use for learning as a beginner?
Hi, your vietnamese is so fluent! I have recently moved to Vietnam and as a native English and Hindi speaker, it's really difficult for me to learn the language. How did you go about learning it and how long did it take you?
ARE YOU SHORN? HAIR APPEARS VERY SHORT! It's cooler for hot weather. Looks nice. Just not used to you having extremely short hair. Your bowl of noodles look YUM-MY!!! That chilli paste is to die for!!! And I love those pickled veggies!!! We can have the same here, stateside on a restaurant, bit it doesn't taste the same. The smell isn't the same either. Are the biscuits shrimp flavored? You said it was! I missed it the first time. Sorry. It looks familiar. The little garlic looks delicious too. I love garlic too! Service was REALLY FAST!!!
Yes, those are shrimp-flavored crackers. They're fun to cook as they are like little flat disks the size of a quarter and you toss it in oil and it all of a sudden blooms to 10x it's size. Many Viets eat them growing up as snacks.
10:40 I find it easier to peal shrimps starting from the upper side of the body, from where the legs are near the head. You're the frist person who I notice starts from the bottom. So now I'm wondering where that difference comes from 😁
I find it easiest to remove the legs first and then pull off outward from there, myself. The legs are coming off anyway, and they take a bunch of the shell with them. Something small I can get a good hold on.
How did you learn Vietnamese? And how long did it take you to learn it? I've started dating a Vietnamese girl and I want to know how much struggle I am in for to learn such a difficult language mate :(
on second check, foreign service institute ranks vietnamese as category IV language which would be 1100 hours of study for an english speaker. category V is 2200 hours (arabic, japanese, chinese, korean)
Best way to learn ANY language is to immerse yourself amongst the native speakers...that's the advice I told my SIL when she came to the US as too many Vietnamese folks tend to stick to themselves and never learn proper English, much less get rid of the THICC accent. She was older when she came over and started working with only English speakers and totally understands English now. Still has an accent, but not the crappy kind that most Viets have when speaking English. LOL
As a foreigner who cannot speak the language how can we order these dishes? I've been to Vietnam but I feel I have missed so many delicious dishes because I don't know the name or how to order. It's quit intimidating to walk up such a food stand especially when its busy. I've only ate at restaurant that have pictures of the dishes or English translation which were good, but it would be nice to order and eat at a place like this.
This dish is ok imo. If it's so good would made a name for it self like pho and hu tieu. Theres so many different type of dish, its endless even for a vietnamese lol. Only way you try diff food is explore/ experience or a local guide/ friend to take u around. Good luck
those onions are marinate in sweet vinegar.. very common all over ASEAN countries.. you and Max should do an ASEAN tour.. should start in Penang or KL..
