  • Which fire alarm tester is better; The Solo 365 or the Testifire?
    You may already use one or both of these products or you may be looking to purchase your first bit of fire alarm testing equipment. Either way, this video may be helpful if you are an electrician or fire alarm engineer.
    In this video, I explore the benefits of both the Detector Tester Solo 365 and the Testifire fire detection test equipment. I discuss the pros and cons and give a review of each product which can both be used on No Climb Products extension poles.
    I demonstrate on how to operate each unit whilst carrying out a fire alarm service on site.
    All in a day in the life of a fire alarm engineer.

    I use the testifire 1000 for over a few years now. I’m on my second unit, since the first one broke at the base where the battery connects to. Now it has a rubber sleeve around the place to dampen any blows to it. It is getting heavy after a while especially when you have it on a extended pole. I get about 400 tests before i need to replace it. You can charge the battery of the testifire in the car with the charger, that has a car plug on it.
    The carry case isn’t really rugged. I’ve gone through 2 of them and now use a stanley toolbin to store the unit. Would love to have a unit that indicates that the indicator of a detector is lit, since having to look up all the time really hurts your neck.
    You still need a can of aerosol to test high explosive area’s where you cannot use electrical units.

    I think the Solo wins for me with its weight considering the quantity of detectors compared with heats. A separate corded heat doesn't seem too much of a compromise against carrying all the extra weight around.

      I am honestly torn. I am so used to using the older 330 aerosol based unit and a separate heat unit the Solo sort of fits its place. Plus we do a lot of aspirator testing which the Testifire can do but not as well as the Solo 365 with the ASD adapter.

    The system must be pretty old to have apollo series 30 devices on it. Id say the testfire is the best. Nice video Dan.

      AS Systems all the heats are old but the smokes which are a combination of ionisation and optical are series 65! Not sure why they didn't replace the heats

    • @ASSystems
      @ASSystems 6 лет назад

      Well it's not everyday you see series 30 heats. there quite rare to see but i don't see why they left the heats up. I think they would repalce them with the rest of the system and put series 65 heats up. But they still work so i don't see the need for replacement.

    I’m unsure of which I prefer, the Solo seems to be able to fit in to more awkward spaces and it definitely looks lighter but with the features the Testifire has its understandable why it would be slightly bulkier and heavier. I guess it really does depend on what kind of site your going onto. The company I got work experience in just kept a can of Solo A3 in the back of the van!

    • @DanstheEngineer
      @DanstheEngineer  6 лет назад +1

      Ciaran Collins you're right, it really depends on the type of work you're doing. A3 isn't designed as a hand held aerosol and the wastage is incredible if used that way. I always have had a can of canned smoke or something like that as backup but they are no obsolete so the only hand held is the smoke sabre. I have found the Solo handy in some of the award voids we test but sometimes day to day the Testifire can be easier and quicker. The other massive advantage of the Solo 365 is the ASD adapter for aspirator sampling points. It works well on the systems I have tested so far.

      S D Security I am not convinced. I'm really torn between the two!

    first... if I get a fire alarm I would just spray some canned smoke at it and when I would reset it and pray that it wouldn’t go off again 😂😂 #iLiked
    Love the vid :)

    I would go with the Solo mainly for the swivel bucket. Too many times especially in elevator shafts the smoke is mounted on the wall above the door. Would be impossible to use the Testifire in that sense.

    • @theseob

      You can swivel the testifire 1000, but you have to do it in advance, because it will lock in position.

    I'd use either, they both seem really good.

      CwFire what have you been using to date?

    • @averagefirechannel
      @averagefirechannel 6 лет назад +1

      You can see in my videos that I currently use bodyspray, but once my addressable system is installed I intend to buy a Smoke Sabre.

      CwFire that's your best bet for the testing you're doing.

    • @averagefirechannel
      @averagefirechannel 6 лет назад

      Yeah, I don't think a Solo or Testifire is really necessary. What would you recommend for testing a heat detector/multisensor?

    Haven't used the solo unit reviewed but the testified lacks impac- robustness ie ,if they get dropped they fall apart, & cost a bomb to replace or exchange for repair., still using the older solo with spray can, they are not as fancy but very rugged unit.basically indestructible

      Random Ytuber what's your reason?

    • @SunSecurity
      @SunSecurity 6 лет назад +1

      Dans the Engineer because it can do both smoke and heat

    • @DanstheEngineer
      @DanstheEngineer  6 лет назад +1

      Random Ytuber I'm so used to the Solo 330 that it doesn't bother me using a separate heat tester. Plus I test a lot of aspirator sampling points

    I got new aico smoke battery detectors installed radio link. Can you tell me if they are ment to flash.

    • @DanstheEngineer
      @DanstheEngineer  6 лет назад

      James Bond do they beep? And how often is the flash and what colour?

    • @georgethomas287
      @georgethomas287 6 лет назад

      Dans the Engineer i think it is an Ei650 battery powered. When on standby it doesn't blink I tested it, it works I just want to know if it is ment to flash. It flashes when tested. And it sets off all other smoke alarms interconnected.

    Think you'll find it blows air to clear the detectors, not smoke as you said - twice 😋😂

    • @DanstheEngineer
      @DanstheEngineer  6 лет назад

      Keith Thompson yeh blowing smoke certainly doesn't clear a smoke detector 😂 hopefully you got the idea! Ha
