R. Lee Ermey a talented character actor known for his military roles, Ronald Lee Ermey was in the United States Marine Corps for 11 years. He rose to the rank of Staff Sergeant, and later was bestowed the honorary rank of Gunnery Sergeant by the Marine Corps, after he served 14 months in Vietnam and later did two tours in Okinawa, Japan. After injuries forced him to retire from the Corps, he moved to the Philippines, enrolling in the University of Manila, where he studied Criminology and Drama. www.imdb.com/name/nm0000388/bio?ref_=nm_ov_bio_sm
The major problem I see in this trailer is that the boot camp haircuts are way to long. The top would have been just as short as the sides.. Only after several weeks would the maggots be allowed to have a little growth on top.
The Boys in Company C (1978) is what inspired Stanley Kubrick to make Full Metal Jacket (1987). Both movies feature R. Lee Ermey as a hard-ass DI. Highly Recommended ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
This was one of the first films I watched on vhs and it has all the heart and soul of Platoon and Full Metal Jacket. It's just a shame it isn't as well known.
I love this film far as I am concern this movie could top Full Metal Jacket anytime although R Lee Ermey was good and his role was small but Brother Stan Shaw was the star the rest of the Platoon were good as well I would like to have this as My Oldies But Goodies collection Platoon We Were Soldiers and The Walking Dead the Black Vietnam film not to be confuse with the current popular zombie horror series of the same name will be My collections as well
arncoo63 I said the same thing this movie has a better story line than Full Metal Jacket The Great Santini was another great movie and The Seige of Firebase Gloria
Took me a while to look at movies like this. To all of the Bris who made it back to the World, Welcome Home. And let's not forget the Bris who didn't make it back to the Block.
A friend of our family had a son in the Marines who was a Gunnery Sergeant at 26, he had 3 tours in Vietnam. He took me to see this because I was thinking of going in the Navy or the Marines. He was pretty sure that what ground fighting was like I would be able to make a better choice. I chose the Navy and he came to my graduation he was a Sergeant Major
Because one of the recruits knocked another recruit into the water and the DI was telling them that he got them all killed with the noise that it made, so he made them all get into the water.
Is that you Gunnery Sergeant Hartman, is this me?
Nobody can do it like the Gunny. But the Spanish D. I. Had me rolling.

R Lee looks skinner in this movie compare to Full Metal Jacket
"Happy Birthday General Dearborn". That would make a good premise for a MASH episode...
there was an episode of MASH involving general steele portrayed by harry morgan.
Yep and Craig Wasson(David Bisbee) was in an episode of MASH 😎
