I must have seen all the reviews on the M10-D that are available right now on RUclips but I must say this one is what all the others should have been! Thoroughly explained, honest and with good points and arguments that others may have missed to mention or where they did not quite manage to get the message across. Thanks for making it!
I’m only half way watching the video and this is the review this camera deserves. Other than Kai’s awesome and energetic review which I liked so much but this is one really good review with sample shots. Thanks for doing it.
I mainly photograph, that's what the cameras were made for. To catch the perfect moment - even if it may be a little out of focus - or to take the time to compose the picture before pressing the shutter button. Today I look far too often into the menu and check my picture after every shot. This also means that the camera is to blame if the picture is out of focus... You brought over the fun of taking pictures very well.
There's actually a principle in marketing that if an item is not selling, raise the price. I have an X100F and a friend (with a really good job) has an M10. If you forget the price and compare them...well...hard to find much difference in quality and the fuji does so much more, like film simulation. All quality pro level cameras are really well built with very good fit and finish.
@@Thomas_Geist there‘s definitely no such principle lol. It‘s just the manifacturer being a gatekeeper and dick to potential customers. Just look who owns a Leica. Wealthy people, most of the time already famous people like all the musicians or actors (Lenny Kravitz, Jason Momoa,…). As you say, there‘s not much difference between X100F and Leica M10, but our brain thinks more $ = better quality.
I compare the M-D with my 240: I've no time for the M-D in my daily work as press photographer. The M-D is fine for shooters who don't have an editor sitting on the neck. Nice review, but I'm always wondering, why many photographers are carrying a large backpack while cruising the streets., I put an etxra lens and some batteries and a cloth in my pockets and off I am. Take care Bobby!
paul sehstedt thanks for watching. Yes I can imagine this camera for your work might be a bit difficult to use. As for the backpack, I actually hate carrying around a big backpack. Here in Singapore I don’t drive / ride all the time thus I need to bring around everything I’ll use for the day in one bag. For this shoot it’s just me and my camera man, so no one to leave the bag with haha.
Excellent review and a great presenting style. Even though I know I could never afford this camera, nor do I need this camera I know that if my lottery Nos came up this would probably be the very first thing I would buy. Thank you :)
Very good review !!! One of the best I've seen. Love the fact it has no screen because as you said when sooting street you can make out you're using film :) and most of the time that gets you out of trouble if someone thinks you have taken a picture of them.
The Leica M10-D is not like one's land rover, it's in fact like that Spider that provides an exceptional driving experience on a sunny weekend, I can totally see myself getting one
Patience and practice are key with rangefinders. I recently got an M9-P and have thought about selling it. But every time I use it I get so much joy, especially when you nail the shot. Give it another shot, I think it'll be worth it. Maybe start with an f/2 and shoot in ideal lighting conditions. Once you get good you can try shooting faster lenses in darker conditions. *Work your Leica M* by _Joeri van der Kloet_ was recommended to me and I think it's a good tutorial to really master the M.

Driving a Mini Cooper is really cool too. So do like I did...get a Fuji X100F and with the money you save get a low milage Mini with a 2.0L turbo. If you love street photography the very first thing you have to do is get there.
They could have improved the battery life by making the lever actually reset the shutter with the option of turning that off for multiple exposures (hell, who needs that anyway.) Recocking the curtain actually takes a lot of mechanical energy. People are buying this for the nostalgia so why not? You wouldn't get twice the battery life because other things are going on too, but maybe 50% or more. Plus the great experience of doing it. That's what the D is all about.
Hey Bobby. Starting at video 7:57, I just wanted to mention; you're displaying a flaw that many novice Leica RF shooters share - When they focus their RF, they immediately click, so the subject matter is typically CENTERED (interesting foreground is often lost and/or feet/legs are cut off). Obviously the learned habit should instead be - - - FOCUS then quickly Re-Compose for proper composition. With practice this becomes 2nd nature...
Hi! Thanks for watching. If you watch closely at that starting point I recomposed after focusing. Im looking at my shot first then go in to focus then move. I tend to concentrate on faces and people first, especially shooting more wide open. If I stop down to bring more of the background into play then I frame differently.
i shot and learned photography through film but lately i bought a digital because i don't have time yet money to buy films and develop it (it cost you!) even in my x100, i set menu at home when doing nothing, disabling the lcd when going to the street and turning off the preview really helps a lot.
I like this style of photography. Save money and buy a film Leica. I have an M7, but my most fun camera is the Leica M4-2. The M4-2 is cheap as chips for Leica, ~$500
ruclips.net/video/bTltZDB-EK0/видео.html that's not exactly true. when you are fully accustomed with rangefinder focusing, you can focus faster in certain situations even with wide-open thin depth of field subjects, even with low ambient lighting and relatively poor eyesight. the thing that kills an RF focusing system (other than a miscalibrated one) is the direct light that hits the RF lens that washes out the focusing mechanism so you need to keep that upper left window wiped clean and free of dusts and thumbprints.
Dexter Legaspi true but also depends on ones eyesight. If you have 20/20 vision that helps quite a bit. Yes you can put diopters on to assist but even low light can prove challenging. The easiest M I found for focusing is the M3 but of course that’s designed for 50mm.

Understand your perspective. In defence of the camera, it was never meant to be a mainstream version of the M, but an option for those that want to go back to the essence of an analogue camera minus the film.
I bought three excellent Nikon film bodies - two F3s, one of which is mint, and a mint FE2 - plus three f/1.4 lenses - 35, 50 and 85mm, the whole lot for 30% the cost of an M10-D with no glass. I have to ask the question: why would you pay £6,500 (in the UK) plus another £4-5k for some glass for a camera essentially designed to replicate using film? Or am I missing something? I can tell you, it would have to be some sort of special experience to match the fun and pleasure I have with my Nikons. Perhaps I'd better hire me a Leica so I can see what I'm missing. So you have to wait for the films to be processed and scanned and returned. So what? As the man said, he went to film to slow down and stop messing about with a screen all the time. Same reason as me. Seems to me if you pop off a load of shots, unrestricted by limitations on the number of shots on your film, while you're just itching to get to a cafe to sit and see what you've got but wondering if you have enough battery left to run the wifi long enough to get the images onto your phone, which may or may not have enough spare storage on it....well,then perhaps it's half defeating the object. Chill. Rewind your film while mentally recapping what you think you got. Send it off. Wait a few days. And, while you're waiting, pop another roll of film in and get out and shoot some more. Or, as I say, am I missing something?

Well for some, having a digital camera without a screen is different. We don’t make our videos for one specific audience, but for an array of viewers. Some not as experienced as you. So if you want to judge the review based on the first 30 sec then so be it, but thanks for clicking on our review to watch.
“how is it to shoot with a camera without lcd... quit liberating” well it’s not, you shoot with the visoflex... you should not have used the visoflex with this Leica.
I've always considered Leica as Severity, Seriousness and Design - as _project with uncionality_ - absolute Landmark. But to me this model is the worst kind of philology. Replace an expensive display with useless cheap lever is _old school!?_ It's a slap to the human understanding and a a great style fall after decades of minding excellence. Very stupid toy for very fake hipsters, that's it.
In all the years of shooting ( 35+ years ) I've never heard so much nonsense about the nostalgic fanboy sounding talk about a camera that has no screen, no evf, no autofocus etc, etc, and still wax lyrical about why you don't need them! Bull. For a camera that costs this much without the lens and you say has a lot of functionality.." you can choose jpeg, raw, blah blah"!! Garbage is coming out of your mouth, " it slows down your shooting" lol go get a cheap compact camera and tell me the same wax lyrical nonsense! OMG Dross utter dross, oh and for a camera that has no obvious tech it sure uses alot of battery power!! Admit the fact that you just enjoy having a Leica in your hands! Full Stop!
Arthur R McPhee respectfully I think you misunderstood a lot of what I said in the video. Instead of being just critical about things it doesn’t have which are many because it was designed that way, I wanted to highlight that the lack of features does give you something interesting on this camera. With the focus on all the new technology many cameras have these days, using this was a refreshing change. With our camera reviews we don’t just focus on Photographers such as yourself that have been shooting for 35 years, but also new photographers that might not have the knowledge others do. If my video was solely targeted at professional shooters I would package things slightly differently. Also, yes using a cheap compact camera will also slow down your photography, but this review is on the Leica M10D, not a cheap compact. In closing, why do people spend thousands on a watch when a cheap digital watch tells the same time? It’s all about how it makes you feel.
Love your enthusiasm. Simplicity and the activity of shooting is why I like Leica.

Chuck the evf. Wtf.....
When your eyesight isn’t as good as it once was you will think different.
TECH360.TV they have diopters....
Yes I have them on my MP. The EFV is still easier.
TECH360.TV makes no sense to have a rangefinder then get an evf. Using an evf ruins the whole point of having a Leica. Time to get a Sony!!!
Very bad review of an incredible camera... very childishly trendy very youtube-tech style
Dilly Dilly thanks for watching:)
@@btonelli Thank you and keep it up this can be better
D is for dumb😎
Oh no cs bs!
