This Makes No Sense In Harry Potter 🤔

  • The point system in Harry Potter doesn't make much sense! In Hogwarts, students often strive to win the House Cup by earning house points from answering questions correctly and performing good deeds during the year. However, the point system is entirely arbitrary and subject to blatant favoritism. Some teachers, such as Snape, have been known to give points to Slytherins while deducting them from Gryffindor's. Even Dumbledore is known to abuse the system, awarding a massive amount of points to Harry and his friends at the end of the first book!

Most the Horcruxes were in rather obvious places if you knew about Tom Riddle's personal history. The only less obvious one was in the Les Strange vault at Gringotts.

"There will be no foolish wand waving or silly incantations in this class." It's not a memory slip. It's Snape's way of telling everyone that he will not tolerate foolishness of any kind.

In the books Snape almost never awards or deducts points. He prefers to assign detention. It is Dumbledore, who is grossly unfair in awarding points to his favorite students.
Even if the point system were handled fairly, only the youngest students would continue to care about a reward as empty and meaningless as the House Cup. The prospect of winning it or losing it would stop having an effect on students’ behavior as they grew older.

Yes he does, you can find the entire list of House points ever given or deducted online.
We know of 19 times Snape deducted points out of the 58 times points were deducted or given during the time Harry attended Hogwarts. That is a third of all times. And from all of the 35 times points were deducted it's more than half. He legit deducts the most number of times points in the entire series compared to all other characters.
