The reason why they didn't give padma and Parvati the real Indian lehenga was because in these scene Hermione was supposed to steal the show, she was the main look of the ball room so it would have been akward to have a side character look so fantastic and amazing than the mains..😅

As an Indian.. I know that outfit for Parvati and Padma is betrayal by the HP team.. Those are like rough use dresses..You dont wear them to any kind of parties..
I realise they want hermione to be the centre of attention girl.. Still Cho's chinese outfit is better than the Indian Outfit..but who knows how a party/festive wear of chinese will look like..maybe for a Chinese person Cho's outfit will seem less than a party wear..

At the time, i remember there were collective sigh from the indian fans for the lehengas the patils wore. It looked weak & bland compared to the elaborate outfits we have, just look at bollywood films 🙌 [even cho looked beautiful in her traditional outfit ❤️ & we don't talk about Ginny]. It irks me still, but for a reference now on how indians can make an entrance, check Sharma sisters in Bridgerton & Yennifer from witcher 😍

I’m American. I grew up watching Harry Potter movies. I didn’t think anything of Padma’s and Parvati’s gowns. Yet this comment section, I agree that they should have gotten better. I guess they didn’t want anyone to forget them as Indians via their outfits.
I looked up lehengas from the comments here mentioning it and wow yeah lehengas look more formal gowns than an average day look. Maybe in the Harry Potter reboot or TV series they can correct it somewhat so they would look dressed up at the ball than not.
I get it Hermione was supposed to be the most stunning there. But to do that they would have to dress down the rest of the females and that would have looked very weird!
