I love the way it looks. Not sure about the power train but I’d imagine the fuel efficiency is a lot better. I just here not so good things about these turbo 4 cylinder engines. Styling is on point! Toyota has been killing it with their line up.👌🏾
Yea looks good, but I will never buy any 4x4 with a 4cyl turbo. It is completely counterintuitive to install a highstrung turbo in an off-road overlanding type of vehicle. In the real world they don't actually get better mileage because people rev them out and you will never see one hit 200k without thousands of dollars in engine work and likely a rebuilt turbo first... That is if you didn't keep running the engine after the turbo fails and that destroys it completely. I thought Toyota was smarter than this.
Ahhh no we don’t. I love how you yanks start shitting yourselves when something has an engine smaller than a V6 🤣🤣. Here in Australia our Landcruiser 300 series is essentially your Sequoia. For the vast majority there are no issues with this 4 cylinder, and I won’t hesitate upgrading my current prado to this new hybrid.
@@benmiz9742 the reason for that is that is while Toyota might make reliable 4 cylinder turbo engines... Dodge, Chevy and ford don't. Also they don't provide any actual benefit over a v6 or v8 on mileage, they are rated as having better fuel mileage but don't actually get it in the real world and then most of them require premium fuel which completely ruins any chance of saving on fuel. No one wants an engine that sounds like shit, costs more for fuel, requires more maintenance, and will inevitably have more problems.

Absolutely love the fresh design. I wish Toyota had given us the option of the V8 in the Prado/GX, but I understand the regulations pressuring all companies to increase MPGs. I'm not exactly a fan of turbos or hybrids on an off-road rig, but Toyata is the only manufacturer I'd be willing to give the benefit of doubt to. Not complaining. I just wish Toyota had fully committed to the nostalgia. It's a shame that their best looking model is the base model. Oh well 🤷
Toyota really did a great job! The design also reminds a little bit of the FJ , like the white roof and boxy design. Hope we get the new FJ back soon....
I traded out of my FJ when my kids drove me crazy about getting into and out of the back. I always thought it would be great to have a four door FJ. It looks like that’s what Toyota has delivered. I also had a ‘99 LC and loved it too. This is an interesting new car. The price, compared to a 4Runner, will be the decision maker for me.
Well I would definitely recommend a roof cargo carrier if you're going to put your kids up there. Toyota will sell the heck out of that. Looks real purpose driven for off roading trips. Nice review as usual.
I’m a Toyota fan, but for some reason this Land Cruiser doesn’t do it for me 🤷♂️ Can’t wait to see what they do with the 6th gen 4Runner. Love the reviews! Keep up the great work!
FABULOUS vehicle. People have been waiting for the return of this beloved vehicle for some time. This one of the most reliable vehicles in the history of autos; they will be severely constrained due to factory capacity back in Japan, and i expect this will be unobtainable due to the delays. More practical than the Bronco, the hybrid will give a huge advantage in MPG.
I'm diggin' it The Heritage/Miami Blue looks great. Love the Heritage logos everywhere Under $60k, it provides solid value.. I prefer this over the Lexus GX, because I'm old school

The size and interior materials makes it look more like a 4Runner replacement than a true Land Cruiser… I still really like the look and would consider trading in my 5th gen 4Runner if this new LC isn’t priced through the roof…
This isn't the full size luxury Land Cruiser we used to get. It is the "Prado." You can always get the Lexus GX which is identical to this but more luxurious and a tt v6
That’s almost challenging the Tacoma TRD PRO in my choice for my next truck. Thanks again Joe for going out to these places and giving us these first looks. You’re my go to for these things dude !

I love the retro/modern look of it and it looks spacious....adding this one to the list of SUV's I'm gonna pitch to the wife lol..Thanks for the breakdown!!
Mechanically there is lot going with the turbo, hybrid motor, and the electronics. Only time can tell how bullet proof this Land Cruiser. Entry price is great though
This is what many of my FJ Cruiser friends wanted; a 4 door FJ, thats what this is, but with a prop rod hood instead of FJ's suspension hood holders. I still love my FJ Cruiser TTSE from 2012 in Radient Red. 96,000 miles and I owned it from new ( 3 miles on the clock) I dont mind 2 doors. I am sure when this LC comes out, the after-market will be all over it. Lots of room for front steel bumper with a winch, rock rails etc.
as the owner of 2007 FJ with 164,000 miles that i love. I love this new Land Cruiser. it has some designs of the FJ in it. body lines are clean, interior is clean. I like that they always use common parts between the models Toyota nailed it again!
Looks excellent. Only changes/options I’d like to see include: 1. Suspension/lift options to increase travel, the tire size and off road capabilities. 2. Larger Moonroof (front to back) 3. Round wheel arches-not the hexagon/squared off shape. 4. Auxiliary switches for add’l lighting, winch, etc. (maybe they’re there and he didn’t highlight them?)
What the FJ Cruiser should have been in the first place. Better mpg, higher torque, no strange door combination. Also, this is the perfect competitor to the Defender and Bronco. The only thing that I suggest is not gatekeeping the round headlights to the base model. My perfect spec would be a midspec model with round headlights, and 3rd party offroad tires.
Hey Joe, you completely delivered on this review. There may be people winning that we don't get the 300 series here, but hey getting the land cruiser back in the US is definitely great welcome news. I don't mind if this is called the land cruiser Prado in other parts of the world, but like Europe and also soon Canada, we are happy that the Land Cruiser is back.
JOE LIES AND LIES.AT 1:07 STOP THE LIES-This car is NOT SPECIFICALLY FOR THE US-its being sold in Africa where its used by millions, its being sold in Australia where its used by millions and many other parts of the world where its called a TOYOTA PRADO.After you said its just for the US, I lost interest on this video and YOUR CREDIBILITY thinking everything belongs to the US.FYI Toyota is a GLOBAL COMPANY BASED IN ASIA-JAPAN not in DETROIT, MICHIGAN
@@KingoftheRoad-2023 well technically, your right that this is a land cruiser prado. However, toyota has diversified their strategy in a sense that this will not be called prado in every country that this will be sold in. The prado name will still be used in Australia, Africa, and Middle East, but the prado name will not continue for Asia and Japan. They will rename it LC 250 in their markets. Europe, now the US, and now Canada will be getting this only called Land Cruiser because we don't get the 300 series like the other markets do. So that is likely why Joe said that this land cruiser was specifically made for the US market although you are also right that this will continue to be popular before this is brought to the US and Canada in the coming months.
I think offering a manual like the Bronco and Wrangler would get the enthusiasts' attention. What I wish Toyota could do is offer a US regs compliant Hilux compact truck with manual transmission. But Jon of All Cars With Jon has a video explaining why true compact trucks are no longer permitted to be sold here. I haven't watched it yet.
The only zonk for me would be the grill. Would have liked something more aggressive. The exterior looks great. The white roof is a nice touch. That said, I still like the GX styling more BUT I would take the Toyota if I could save 15k.
I'm sorry Joe, I think they should have offered the V6 and V8 options they offer with the Tundra. I mean, this is a workhorse SUV not some wimpy compact SUV.
The Legend is back this suv is the toughest and bulletproof of Toyota made with great history for many years in all continents. Definitely interesting option for the out road enthusiast. Great move Toyota USA.
@blvnke The 4Runner outsells all the other Toyota/Lexus body on frame vehicles combined and this Land Cruiser will not change that. Toyota isn't giving up their best seller on the hope that an even more expensive but no more capable vehicle will suddenly become a sales darling.
@blvnkethe 4 cylinder is fine it already makes more power than the old 4 runner, also this better suspension and lockers out the box, this leaves no room for the 4runner tho, another less capable midsize suv sounds redundant, if this is the offroad model then 4runner is gonna get the soccer mom treatment and basicly become a jeep grand cherokee. Because thats who buys 90% of 4runners, those in the offroad crowd that havw money to play with are either gonna hold on to their trd pro or trade it in for this
@nomenclature9607 toyota also mastered hybrid tech in the prius, adding in the truck isnt a letdown its just added torque. Cant wait till people start tuning these, a proper i4 turbo from toyota should hold decent boost
I usually don’t like boxy looking vehicles but I love the look here. My modest “dream” car is the new Jeep Grand Cherokee, but tbh I think this might take that spot
Wow. This looks amazing. I’m currently looking into new SUV’s and Trucks for a purchase in the next 1-1.5yrs. The new CRV & Branco we’re both on my list for SUV’s. Then I seen that there was a new Tacoma coming out and that caught my attention. Now that I see this new Land Cruiser I think I found my new Favourite. Toyota has already impressed me with our 2020 RAV-4 Trail. I think I’m becoming a Toyota Lifer. 😂
Yes, new one is very cleanly designed and well proportioned for specific off-road use. I am glad they did not succumb to the other space-shippy looking designs of other brands. Looks like it will be beautiful covered in dirt and snow.
The J80 was the beginning of the end for the Land Cruiser. I bought a J62 in 1990 and still regret selling it, for $11000 no less! This is a great evolutionary development and I am very hopeful for the future.
This makes me excited for this return of the Land Cruiser. Nice innovations and style choices. The rear glass functionality reminds me of my old 2001 CR-V. Would be interested in hearing the MPGs, but I know you'll share them in the first drive video
Excellent review. Appreciate how you went in on textures and going deep on the limited access given to the reviewers on the press junket. For the exterior, Toyota designers went from anime-fantasy to lean into anime-military. A huge improvement. Also, the rear glass opening separately might be one way to avoid smash-and-grab thieves, if you keep it ajar a few inches when parked, to show thieves there is nothing to steal. That is a major problem up and down the West Coast, but absolutely horrible in San Francisco/Oakland and LA.
Don't like the only powertrain option is a hybrid. That being said I love the styling. Where does this leave the 4Runner? I "may" get this one but it's a little different flavor from my old 100 Series.
I think they did a great job with both exterior and interior. The only thing I'd like (and this is just a personal preference) is that the brown seats gave way to seats that matched the rest of the interior. It does look quite a bit similar to the new Lexus GX, so I think if the Lexus isn't too much more expensive, that will be a tough decision between the two.
Yes I agree The Leather Seats it Very Important and it Should not Be an up grade!!! I only buy Leather seats in all My Vehicles Fj Cruiser and 4 Runner2022!!
I like it. The only thing I wish this land cruiser can do is having the ability to adjust the car height. Having the ability to electronically raise and lower the vehicle
I love the fact that Toyota designed the Land Cruiser differently per market. The previous Land Cruiser didn't really make sense for the vast majority. Therefore, it didn't do well in the US, especially for how much it cost. The new one starts at a good price point and I think it's going to do well.
🇺🇸 *LOVE this NEW Land Cruiser* !! *GREAT REAL knobs on the dash* !! *Waiting for you to take this one on throttle* !! *FAB content Joe and Lori* !! #RaitisRides 🇺🇸
My thoughts exactly. Looks like a should-be FJ Cruiser or next gen 4Runner. The real Land Cruiser is out already and shared chassis with the Lexus LX. Definitely a head-scratcher.
THANK YOU JESUS THE LEGENDARY LAND CRUISER IS BACK!! My uncles had them when I was a kid. One of the most reliable truck you can own! I can already hear the Bronco crying in a corner. NoW let's be real, This thing will have a HUGE RESALE VALUE!!
Great job you do as usual on a vehicle review! I don’t like ground clearance of 8.5 it is not good enough for off-roading. I also don’t like 4.4 inches narrower than old model it seems a total of 6 to 8 inches narrower than previous model if I don’t count flared fenders.
The only thing I'm worried about is if there may be an overlaping of toyota SUVs since the new Land Cruiser is a significantly smaller than its prior models and assuming the announcement of the redesigned 4runner coming next year. otherwise, I absolutely love the design of this new New Land Cruiser, Though it has gotten a little smaller, it will be more affordable for toyota Land Cruiser enthusiast.
16:48 Toyota DEFINITELY did a better job with this model than in previous attempts. I love it ❤ I would take the blue one shown in the video, no questions asked. 🎉😁🙌👍
I love the look and there's no doubt it'll be more than capable enough for ninety nine percent of those who buy it. But I'm not sure what it offers over a comparable 4 Runner especially after the Runner gets redesigned. Toyota is banking on the Land Cruiser name selling enough vehicles to make it worth bringing this to the states. But since it's also the Lexus GX and the overseas Prado they were going to have it anyway so might as well try to sell a few on the name. As far as the reality of trying to sell the 4 Runner, Land Cruiser, Sequoia and the GX I think something is going to give fairly quickly and probably the Sequoia as it wasn't slated for a return anyway until engineering lobbied for it. The new redesign is doing better than the last generation but that was a very low bar to clear. It still will likely not sell 20K units this years and then comes competition from the Land Cruiser and soon a redesigned 4Runner. The lower price of the new base model Land Cruiser will likely help sales in the first couple of years until the nostalgia boys and You Tube crowd gets them but when prices creep north of 60K for the base and 70K for the LC Toyota is going to find that all those folks whining that the Land Cruiser was no longer available were the same folks who weren't buying them in the first place.
So we don't get the "real" toyota land cruiser and instead they just rebrand the Land Cruiser Prado /Lexus GX as a Land Cruiser.......not a big fan of that idea..
@nomenclature9607 So what about the non prado Land cruiser (or Lexus LX equivalent). This is what I was looking for in a land cruiser, the larger version. Seems this is just a "Land Cruiser Prado"(GX) marketed as a "Land Cruiser", is what I am seeing
This interior is probably one of Toyota's best works. I just wish it kept the cooler in the center console storage and came with a panoramic sun/moonroof. Little to complain otherwise as there's buttons where you need them and screen where you want them
already paid a reservation fee for the GX 550, because I'm not digging the 4 cylinder, but I do like this LC. I always love your reviews, Joe! Thanks!☺️
Toyota nailed it with the timing on the release of this truck by bringing a simpler, less expensive and more capable vehicle back into the market when inflation is impacting everyone and other vehicles are getting more expensive. Im buying a new land cruiser in 2024 because I can finally afford one!
I think the Japanese are haunted by the success of Gelenwagen. This design is an attempt to get closer to it, but this is yesterday... This car should be a generation of the FJ Cruiser..)
Here it is first for all of you to see! Let me know in the comments how you fell about it!

It's a modified FJ with a smaller (hybrid) engine. I'm sure it will be built at the Hamura Hino Truck plant where the FJ and Prado are (were?) built.

Yes. This to me is just a new 4Runner. Toyota is smart though, I'd be a new FJ is being debated internally.

I love this reimagining of the Land Cruiser, smaller, more efficient and with those amazing looks and paint? It just feels fresh! ❤️
As always great video and thanks Lori for bringing us the latest and greatest first!
Never thought I would see a 4 banger in a Land Cruiser, ever
Mechanically there is lot going with the turbo, hybrid motor, and the electronics. Only time can tell how bullet proof this Land Cruiser. Entry price is great though
I don't see that engine doing well on long trails

This is what many of my FJ Cruiser friends wanted; a 4 door FJ, thats what this is, but with a prop rod hood instead of FJ's suspension hood holders. I still love my FJ Cruiser TTSE from 2012 in Radient Red. 96,000 miles and I owned it from new ( 3 miles on the clock) I dont mind 2 doors. I am sure when this LC comes out, the after-market will be all over it. Lots of room for front steel bumper with a winch, rock rails etc.
Also - THANK YOU for lifting rear glass. I had it on my Bravada and it was very handy!
Looks like a 4 door FJ. Just name it that then.
This isn’t a LC. It’s a Prado/4Runner.
Great review as always Joe!
Thanks a lot Joe and Lori! Y’all are the best! Congratulations to Toyota! This stuff is gonna sell like hot cakes 😍. Amazing SUV!
They call this the Toyota Land Cruiser Prado in Australia, glad it gets a New generation and glad you guys got this back in the States
me to did you see the new 70 series refresh wish we had a troppy size van
as the owner of 2007 FJ with 164,000 miles that i love. I love this new Land Cruiser. it has some designs of the FJ in it. body lines are clean, interior is clean. I like that they always use common parts between the models Toyota nailed it again!
Looks excellent. Only changes/options I’d like to see include:
1. Suspension/lift options to increase travel, the tire size and off road capabilities.
2. Larger Moonroof (front to back)
The enthusiasts are too small to make money from. 90% of sales are auto.
Might get a manual 4R. Maybe. Not an LC. Just not an LC thing anymore outside of the 70s series
SIMPLISTIC and BASIC design dynamic of delivery
I love land cruisers. I basically grew up with a 1989 and 2008 Land Cruiser in the mountains of Yemen. Off road all the time.
It's a great time to be alive especially with what all the auto manufacturers are bringing!
Love the Chanel ❤
Thank You Team Raiti 🙏
The only zonk for me would be the grill. Would have liked something more aggressive. The exterior looks great. The white roof is a nice touch. That said, I still like the GX styling more BUT I would take the Toyota if I could save 15k.
buy a Lexus if you want an aggressive grill 😂
@@fortheloveofnoise😂no one asked you😂
I'm sorry Joe, I think they should have offered the V6 and V8 options they offer with the Tundra. I mean, this is a workhorse SUV not some wimpy compact SUV.
The Legend is back this suv is the toughest and bulletproof of Toyota made with great history for many years in all continents. Definitely interesting option for the out road enthusiast. Great move Toyota USA.
Look at all them Beautiful Timeless Classics in the background.
A 2.4L 4 cylinder I thought it would have a V6
The twin-turbo V6 is exclusive for the GX. The GX needs to have something distinctive in order to sell
Than make it a non turbo V6.
What will this tow .... a bicycle 🚲
A 4-cylinder? This just says new 4Runner to me. It looks marginally better than the new GX. Where does this leave the new 4Runner?
Wow. You can really see the Ford Bronco influence all over the aesthetics. Definitely a major upgrade model though.
I usually don’t like boxy looking vehicles but I love the look here. My modest “dream” car is the new Jeep Grand Cherokee, but tbh I think this might take that spot
The finishing of each component of the Toyota land cruiser is absolutely amazing 👌.....
You should look into the 4 runner as well
What's this mean for the 4Runner? It looks exactly like I was expecting the new 4Runner to look.
🙄
You made me cringe on the anime part 💀
@@ClonewarswarsClone You alright, there?
@@Cletus_the_Elder i dunno, after seeing you post that I’m not so sure
@@ClonewarswarsClone I'm sure some Sailor Moon will get you right.
Don't like the only powertrain option is a hybrid. That being said I love the styling. Where does this leave the 4Runner?
I "may" get this one but it's a little different flavor from my old 100 Series.
4Runner is just as-is, with new bones, heart, and skin for 2025.
I share your annoyance at no V35A.
Vehicle looks good. Let's hope they don't price it in the stratosphere.
This will be primed for a 20k “dealer adjustment”
You can barely get a Rav4 at the dealership.
Imagine how difficult this will be to get
@@mmr0221 definitely a minimum $10k off road package plus the other extras
🇺🇸 *LOVE this NEW Land Cruiser* !! *GREAT REAL knobs on the dash* !! *Waiting for you to take this one on throttle* !! *FAB content Joe and Lori* !! #RaitisRides 🇺🇸
I wonder how the 4Runner is going to fit into Toyota's lineup now.
My thoughts exactly. Looks like a should-be FJ Cruiser or next gen 4Runner. The real Land Cruiser is out already and shared chassis with the Lexus LX. Definitely a head-scratcher.
🙄
THANK YOU JESUS THE LEGENDARY LAND CRUISER IS BACK!! My uncles had them when I was a kid. One of the most reliable truck you can own! I can already hear the Bronco crying in a corner. NoW let's be real, This thing will have a HUGE RESALE VALUE!!
That "Home power source" in the trunk is good for 20 amps!!!!!!!!!! That's huge!!!!!!!!!!
It looks fantastic.
This guy does THE BEST vehicle reviews.
Great job you do as usual on a vehicle review!
I don’t like ground clearance of 8.5 it is not good enough for off-roading.
I also don’t like 4.4 inches narrower than old model it seems a total of 6 to 8 inches narrower than previous model if I don’t count flared fenders.
Looks athletic, like a true off-roader. Well-done
not with 8.7" ground clearance. Hoping that it's a typo but this figure was reported from multiple sources
@@ph00ny1That's unfortunate.
Let's hope OP
Just have to go up a tire size to 34s to add an inch.

This is now my dream SUV. Definitely buying it when it’s available
It looks like a FJ and 4Runner had a baby. I love this.
Should’ve made this a third row suv since it’s longer than the 4runner but it looks good. Looks even better than the bronco
look at the back of. a sequoia 3rd row takes up to much space no room for luggage fold it down takes up cargo space
I believe there’s an optional 3rd row.

That’s probably why they launched this first before the 4runner.
@@milopichuThis is why the 4Runner was delayed another 6-9 months on top of technical delays.
Need to reveal and show this first.
@@nwezetx1 besides, people be acting like the 4runner is sold elsewhere in the world. The Land Cruiser will be sold globally.
@@milopichu Yes, like the Crown, it will be a sub-brand ambassador from global/JDM range.
4Runner although built in JPN, is still export focused.
It's not smaller, it's bigger 🙄
Magnífico diseño retro. Grande Toyota
Thank you Joe,toyota has a lot of styling on their production, this is a powerful job there.
16:48 Toyota DEFINITELY did a better job with this model than in previous attempts. I love it ❤
I would take the blue one shown in the video, no questions asked. 🎉😁🙌👍
Pass. Not a V6
For a moment I thought it was an FJ Cruiser
Me too lol
I love it how you call this 'midsize', in Australia this is 'Large' already Huge!
What is mpg? How does rock crawling work with a hybrid? Does the transition stutter from electric to gas?
So we don't get the "real" toyota land cruiser and instead they just rebrand the Land Cruiser Prado /Lexus GX as a Land Cruiser.......not a big fan of that idea..
@nomenclature9607 So what about the non prado Land cruiser (or Lexus LX equivalent). This is what I was looking for in a land cruiser, the larger version. Seems this is just a "Land Cruiser Prado"(GX) marketed as a "Land Cruiser", is what I am seeing
The US market don't have Prado
@@kromahj we have had Prado for a while as the GX and the 4Runner platform.
@nomenclature9607 doesn’t the existing 4Runner share the same platform at the prado(GX)?
Absolutely hit it out of the park! Beautiful, old school paired with newest tech! Love it.
I truly believe this was originally designed to be the 6th gen 4runner and they changed it to the Land Cruiser last minute.
Love his clever comments!! Keep the good job because is a pleasure to view your reviews!!
This interior is probably one of Toyota's best works. I just wish it kept the cooler in the center console storage and came with a panoramic sun/moonroof. Little to complain otherwise as there's buttons where you need them and screen where you want them
I am so glad that you are liking it!
already paid a reservation fee for the GX 550, because I'm not digging the 4 cylinder, but I do like this LC.
I always love your reviews, Joe! Thanks!☺️
Looks like a 2023 FJ Cruiser, but it's fine, some of the odd angles will smooth out in dark colors. It works!
Thank you Lori for your filmography!
