- I apologize for the miserable sound. I realized the problems with the sound when I had already deleted some of the videos I used for this project. So it’s too late to fix it now.
In May 2020 I left for a long and lonely journey across nearly the entire length of Sweden. I started in the southern Swedish county of Kalmar Län and had a clear goal in mind: Kebnekaise, the highest Peak of Sweden, which at the same time is not very far from Sweden’s northernmost reaches. And that was the only plan.
So this is what happened. 5 weeks and 2000km of cycling, beautiful weather, cold swims, midnight sun, friendly encounters with fellow humans and wildlife and lots of time to just be.
This video serves mainly as a sort of remembrance or diary for me, so I apologize if it’s sort of slow or uninteresting for you at times :)
Jesus Christ I enjoyed this video. I’m from Australia and I’ve done some cycling in the north of Sweden and this brought back some incredible memories. What an amazing adventure for you. It’s a really great country for it. Well done. Perfect video my man
Thanks for the kind words! How cool that it brought back some great memories. Northern Scandinavia is really a massive adventure playground :)
You know its gonna be a banger video when it starts of with The Grateful Dead!
Omg the final part (your arrival at the top of Kebnekaise) is soooo beautiful ! Thanks and congrats for your trip ! 👍
The moments on the highest mountain of sweden are stunning!
Thanks, they really were!
Just found this so thanks for stunning video , I'm taking my motorbike with my bike in a trailer as cycle camping in Norway and Sweden getting a bit tough. I will come back through Sweden after seeing this. Thanks and enjoy your adventures,
Thank you, and enjoy your motorbike trip!
beautiful video man. thanks for puting the time in and for sharing your story.
We just stumbled onto your channel while looking for videos of Kalmar county (where my dad's family was from). This was really an amazing video and we are looking forward to watching all the rest of your travels. Kudos to you both for your adventurous spirit!
thank you so much! Glad you enjoyed that video:) and we've got lots more plans so there will be more videos:)
After 2 year of pandemia and lockdown and now a war going on in Europe, I've started craying at 0.34 minute already... Miss adventures and that feeling of freedom so much! Great inspiring adventure dude! Thank you!
I’m really glad to hear that it was inspiring for you! Even if sometimes it can be very difficult to travel far in the world, there is always so much more to discover in our “backyards”. I just finished a cycling trip in bavaria where I discovered many beautiful landscapes that were entirely new to me, “although” it was all in my home country. Wish you a good day and many adventures to come!
Amazing video. Thank You.
Amazing Journey!!! Nice weather!! Nice place!! Thank you for your video.

Great video, I really enjoyed it! I especially liked the goal of climbing the mountain at the end.

Hi!
Thank you very much for the great video about your bikepacking tour through Sweeden!
Maybe you still have your recorded route track?
Вest regards,
Ilya
Hey Ilya, I’m glad you enjoyed the video! I didn’t exactly record the route (except in my mind ;) ) but I have a list of some of the towns I passed through in the correct order. I mainly improvised the route while cycling, the only thing I specifically wanted to do was ride the mountain road between Gäddede and Saxnäs which I highly recommend.
Anyways, here’s the list:
Högsby, Vimmerby, Linköping, Norrköping, Katrineholm, Eskilstuna, Falun, Furudal, Älvros, Östersund, Strömsund, Gäddede, Stora Blåsjön, Klimpfjäll, Saxnäs, Dikanäs, Slussfors, Sorsele, Arvidsjaur, Jokkmokk, Gällivare, Kiruna, Nikkaluokta, Kiruna

Thank U so much! Your help will help me plan my trip this summer))
Thanks for making this video, looks like an amazing adventure! Any chance you could share the route you've been riding?
1 more question: apparently it is possible to take your bike on the train in Sweden? I was under the impression it isn't possible.
Hey Thomas, thanks for the feedback! I don’t have a good map of my route but I can list some points here: I started in Kalmar Län and cycled through Vimmerby, Norrköping, Eskilstuna, Falun, Sveg, Östersund, Strömsund, then across the famous and beautiful Vildmarksvägen, Sorsele, Arvidsjaur, Jokkmokk, Kiruna and then to the Kebnekaise Mountain. I mostly followed google maps which led me on many gravel roads. Roughly 2000km in the end.
For the train: you’re right, it’s not possible to take a bicycle on the train in Sweden just like that (they should probably change that) so I had to put it in a giant cardboard box that I got at a bicycle store in Kiruna. That is allowed.
Have a nice day :)
Very cool Journey!
Bro. You are seriously inspirational. I already have my summer goals set. 🤩. Could you share some prep stuff and repair videos?
thanks man!! And yeah, we've got a lot of videos on preparing your trips on our channel!
What a video ! Thanks you 😁 ( Where is the last episode of Berlin to Asia ? 😅)
Thank you so much! We are working on it. We didn't get further than Baku, but we do have a video coming of a weekend trip around Baku and the chaotic way back from Azerbaijan to Berlin (due to Corona)!
How did you survived whit short sleevs and shorts at snowy landscape? 🥶
Great video! We’re can i find a me of the roadtrip? Did you recorded the track on a file gpx? Could you please send me it? Thank you a lot
Hello. Nice video. If its not secret where you started the journey???
Hey, I started at my parent’s house in Kalmar Län
A pity it was not the Grateful Dead through the whole video..
Great video!! In which period of the year the journey took place?
thanks! this was in summer, I think mostly June.
Trevlig bildberättelse
Sweden is very beautiful! What cameras did you use?
just an iPhone:)
Cool video man! How were you able to take the bicycle in the train in Kiruna? I only cycled through the south of Sweden because it's not allowed to take the bicycle in most of the train lines. So I am curious how you did that?
Thank you!! I put my bicycle in a cardboard box that I got for free at a bicycle store in Kiruna. They will let you take this big box on the train. But they should definitely create an easier option to transport bicycles on trains in Sweden...
Enjoy your day!
@@butwhatsoutthere thanks! I will do the same on my next journey to Sweden :) Yeah I agree, this kind of restriction doesn't go so well with bike-friendly Sweden.
Nice movie❤
beautyfull
any komoot route you have
unfortunately not.. it was all kind of spontaneus route planning, sorry😬
Will it be too child to cycle this route in September?
weather up there is quite unpredictable, could be 20 degrees all the way but if you're unlucky it could be 10 degrees and rain the entire time. I think september generally is alright to do it though. You can always take the train home if it gets too bad :)
@@butwhatsoutthere Thanks for reply.
Hej buddy, it’s super amazing! I was just wondering is there any way can I throw an email to you regarding my next cycle tour from Gothenburg to Kiruna(kebnekaise)! I need some guidance and your suggestion if you can spare sometime. It would be really a great help for me! I will wait for your reply. Thank you.
Hey there! Sure I’d be glad to help. if you have Instagram, the easiest way would probably be to send me a direct message to our Instagram account butwhatsoutthere . If you don’t have Instagram I can give you my email here
Since when Sweden state flag became ukrainian ???😡😠😡😵😳😳😳😳
what train takes bikes that far north. inlandsbanen?
As far as I know, no intercity trains in Sweden take bicycles. However, you can bring large luggage. So if you put your bicycle in a box or a bag, it's no problem to bring it on the train. I got a cardboard box for transporting bicycles at a bicycle shop in Kiruna. That way I was able to bring it back home on the train after I cycled all the way north.
