    Proud to share that my father Gary King is the bass player for this track off album Destiny. You humble me mentioning his name for his work on the song. He was proud to work with Michael in the studio. He was also proud to be on many CTI Records releases, Bob James albums especially Nautilus, and Roberta Flack to name a few.

    Mark I really appreciate your honesty regarding your personal fallibility when playing. You show yourself to be human. Also another fantastic lesson, cheers!

    brilliant explanation! i've only heard of this as being 'in the pocket' but that makes a lot more sense!

    Mark, your bass is beautiful. I've played that song plenty of times, but I never slap with my thumb. I get a similar sound tapping with my index and middle fingers. I found one way to check your playing for sloppiness is to record your practice sessions, then listen to the next day like it's someone else playing. When I was first learning i thought I sounded awesome, then cringed when I listened to the recording. LOL

    I hadn't played this riff in years and had to revise this for a gig. This really helped - nice one Mark, many thanks!

    Awesome lesson! I'd love a breakdown of I want you back by the jacksons. One of the lines that made me put down the guitar and pick up the bass. The intro to that song is sick!

    Hi mark. many thanks for another excellent breakdown. i learned two things here, how to deconstruct the line and i always thought it was played by Louis johnson! Consider me corrected. BTW, what make of bass is that? Cheers fella and thanks once again.

    Hey Mark, its been a busy summer, so busy I purchased one of your lesson packages some time ago and honestly haven't done more than look around the website to see where I'll begin once the weather breaks. That will change where I'm spending more time indoors. Not to be confused with me not playing my instruments, just haven't started with your material.
    That time is coming quickly now that it's getting cooler and the days getting shorter. I'm a tennis player, got to get while the going is good outdoors as we have pretty rough winter months:)
    My question is, seems you have those same pickups in all your bass guitars. Care to share what pick ups you are using? Thanks

      Sims Super Quads. Martin Sims builds these Enfield basses too. This one is an Enfield Lionheart

    • @la196
      @la196 6 лет назад

      Thanks Mark, I've always thought your bass guitars look and sound fantastic.
      Just went to Reverb and watched them go through a demo with those pickups. Endless combinations:)
      From what I've learned you seem to have yours both in single coil mode much of the time for your lessons. At least they look more green on your videos.
      I may keep an eye out for one of those basses for sometime in the future. Although being in the US, the shipping may be a bit steep.

    Обожаю такие уроки. Вроде небольшой кусочек, но за счёт небольшого размера лучше видны нюансы и интереснее отрабатывать всякие мелочи. Марк лучший.

    What is that bass tho??? Finish is beautiful

  • @martinheath5947

    Because Nate Watts detunes to Eb Ab Db Gb it would actually make sense to teach Stevie Wonder songs in drop tuning or transposed up to standard tuning to replicate the actual fingerings and make open strings more useful. I use pitch shifting software on the original tracks if I want to learn them more easily. Still a great lesson anyway!

    • @talkingbasslessons
      @talkingbasslessons  6 лет назад +1

      It's The Jackson's not Stevie. It's Gary King on bass, not Nate.

    • @martinheath5947
      @martinheath5947 6 лет назад

      @@talkingbasslessons Oops yes sorry My bad. It is possible same thing applies as plenty of Eb songs are detuned but not always I know. Good work

    • @talkingbasslessons
      @talkingbasslessons  6 лет назад

      @@martinheath5947 Doubt he detuned. Pretty pointless here. All the Eb's are up the octave.
