I got the chance to meet Mick back in 99' when his vehicle was run off the road and went over a curb and damaged his wheel. Being a AAA tow operator you meet a lot of famous individuals. You couldn't miss Mick though, all dressed in black, top hat and long black hair :) I knew who he was, but played it off like I didn't until he got in the truck and we drove away from the scene, because I didn't want to scare him off, nor have someone come and pick him up for the ride. As we were heading to his home I told him"aren't a musician"? Your in MOTLEY CRUE right? Yep he said. I couldn't believe it! Here I am sitting in a truck with Mick Mars, a man who's pictures and posters covered my bedroom walls throughout my teens and I'm taking him home. He was so down to earth, very calm and friendly, no ego what so ever, and treated me like an old friend. I told him that I play guitar and he asked me what type of equipment I used, what bands I liked and if I follow CRUE at the time. I told him straight out that I hadn't bought a CRUE album since SOTD, and that they should get back to that sound and vibe that those first two albums had, and he totally agreed with me, saying he keeps telling the guys this, but at that point to no avail. When after hanging with him for about 30 minutes, he told me to wait for minute, and came out of his house with 2 cd's, greatest hits and M/C live and his signature. A truly great man, a truly great guitarist.
I was lucky enough to drive for Motley as a limo driver in Indianapolis a few times. All the guys were cool, but Mick was so nice. Just a regular guy, not pretentious or acted like he was better than anyone. Being a fellow Hoosier from Indiana it was really cool to get to talk with him, and normally I did not ask my clients for anything, but I asked Mick for his autograph and he wrote me a really cool special personalized note. Total class act, and a very nice man!
I had a similar experience and just like you described here- Mick was just the nicest person ever. I never forget that he made direct eye contact and was just so sincere.
I suffer with severe AS and Mick has always been an inspiration for me. I'm not trying to sound corny, but when I'm having a bad AS day, I dig deep and think about Mick playing guitar with Motley Crew for all those years with this disorder.

Very humble guy, doesn't come off as a typical "rock star" despite actually BEING one for going on FORTY YEARS. Played while suffering from excruciating pain all while dealing with the personalities of his fellow band members and just being a great highly underrated guitarist. Tireless work ethic combined with ambition and the results are 4 decades of kick-ass rock'n roll, thanks Mick!
Mick seems like a sincere, humble, kind and, at the same time, bad ass person and musician. He was perfect for the band because Motley Crue had enough egos with Nikki, Vince and Tommy. Mick was the perfect piece of the puzzle who was probably the one responsible for keeping it all together, otherwise they would have split up a long time ago.

His solos are memorable, his tone is one of kind, and find me another guitarist that plays rhythm and lead live as well as he does without skipping a beat. Alex Lifeson from Rush comes to mind... but these guys are so rare.
Dudes a riff genius. He needs to be held in the same breaths as Joe Perry and Tony Iommi. He just comes up with the memorable riffs that make the whole friggin song. When I heard the solo for Dr Feelgood my jaw dropped.

Motley...one of my fave bands of all time and Mick one of my faves. I love their music, but that's as far as it goes. I don't know how "humble" or nice of a man he is. Several years ago, fliping through the tv channels one evening, one of the talk shows had on children of rock stars. I remember one was Alice Cooper's daughter and the other Mick's daughter froma previous marriage. She talked about how she struggled working as a waitress, had 3 kids(Micks grand kids obviously), had not heard from her father in years and also stated that he had never given her or the grand kids a dime. I don't think fathers of any type should have to dish out their money, but for such a successful man to be like that seems a bit mean.
David Carrafiello I would assume his daughter was telling some truth. Mick wouldn't be the first father, especially a rock n roller, who had horrible family situations. I will agree, based on not knowing all the facts, that it's possible some things she said were not true or exaggerated. I enjoy their music and have been since I was a teen in the 80s....the music and nothing more. Especially now that I am older, it's just the music and would not look at some of these people as being a hero or anything. Just my opinion. Rock on.

I've met all 4 members of Motley. Mick is BY FAR the coolest. So nice and engaging. I love his sound and playing. I'll support anything he does. Long live Mick Mars!
Mick Mars is without a doubt the coolest guy I have ever run across in the music business, he helped me out when no one else wanted to, and he didn't have to A class act all the way, and someone who has all my respect.
I worked at Tommys house back in 92. The band had parted ways with Vince and were recording with John Corabi. I brought him my Leathur records album cover, and asked him to sign it. He took it, brought it to the recording studio that night, and so Tommy, Mick, And Nicki all signed the back of it, positioning their signatures in a way that placed Vince upside down (so cool). Now for the best part. The next morning at the house, Tommy popped in a tape of the song they finished the night before.
Mick Mars is so awesome! He is the most underrated guitarist ever in my opinion. When people talk about Motley Crue, it's rare that anybody gives Mick as much credit as he deserves.
The fame, the money, the impact, the excess and this man is the most HUMBLE, APPROACHABLE, real guy I've ever seen. To have what he has had, you would think he would be an asshole but he is a sweetheart of a guy and an amazing musician. God Bless you brother.

Trunk said it the best at about 11 minutes in! He was so good he didn't need a rhythm guitarist. He just nailed it. And built the wall of sound. Single guitarists rule!!!

I met Nicky at an after party at the Hyatt Regency in Houston on the Shout leg with Ozzy. I met Mick on Girls Girls Girls at a party at the Four Seasons in Houston. I also met Rudy Sarzo that night who was playing with Whitesnake. Mick and Rudy were super cool and kind to a kid grinding their riffs in his bedroom. Mick reached into his pocket and gave me a handful of black picks with the comedy/tragedy faces from Theatre of Pain and his signature on the other side. I still have them. I've met countless great musicians over the years but those guys were among the first and were super cool.
I have “Complex Regional Pain Syndrome”, also known as “Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy”, which is horribly painful and it’s hard to walk most of the time. When I REALLY think about what this man lives with AND performs with without complaining or whining I feel very humbled. I commend you Mick not only for that but for your genuine humility and straightforward nature. YOU are a TRUE hero! I met Motley backstage in 1981 (I was “Miss Reseda”-LOL) and Mick has always been a REAL DUDE! He’s truly THE most real and lovable guy in R&R! WOW what can we say about a living legend??? I am 41 and have played guitar for over 30 years now. Mick may not be my reason for playing guitar. Ace Frehley, Randy Rhodes, and Eddie Van Halen are. But Motley Crue has been 1 of my favorite bands since as long as I can remember. My life has been Motley Crue. Mick is the most amazing, well rounded guitarist that I look up to the past few years. I even picked slide because of Mick. Mick is a one of a kind and I know the moment he plays it is him. I respect him as a musician and person. I have never been touched by a musician as I have been by Mick. He is a living legend. I first saw him in La Crosse WI, I have seen every tour since Girls Girls Girls, He walked by me with his wife and kids at the time while staying at the Holiday Inn on the Corobi tour,while I was working and I FREEKED... NONE of us got any work done that day... Mick is the greatest guitarist in my life. I would love to meet Mick and spend a day being real with my only life long living legend. Mick is the best. I don't believe EVH would regard Mick as a terrible guitarist. And I've played guitar for thirty one years, but I have never experienced anything from Motley to indicate that Mick is, was, or ever will be, less than a kick-ass guitarist. For all you guitar player types, put all of Mick's Motley riffs next to all of EVH's riffs (yes, Ed will always be remembered best for the RIFFS, no argument), and you get plenty to chew on, either way. You put the riff to "Unchained" next to "Piece of Your Action", and both riffs set it up. Learn guitar, and you will FULLY understand. SelectCircle, you nailed it...WHAT A TROOPER! Props to Eddie Trunk for giving Mick the kudos he truly deserves.

I think he's probably the sole truly admirable person in Motley Crue. I'm not saying admirable in a "rockn'roll" lifestyle sense...I'm talking the exact opposite of that. I dunno who these people really are, I just know how they've presented themselves in the public eye, at least at their height of their success...and I'm not knocking them at all, I think that's part of what makes that kind of rock music fun....all of the crazy stories from the road and stripper/pornstar girlfriends and other madness....but Mick is the one guy that has stayed low key, probably the only humble dude in the band unless you count Corabi (and trust me, if I was them in the 80's, I'd have a hard time myself staying humble too!!!) and just a genuinely good cat....he's weird but thats probably why he's who he is. Plus, you wanna' talk about being a dedicated player, I just can't believe he carries on with his health in the shape that it is....but he just keeps coming man, coming at you with that MASSIVE fucking tone...
I love all the members of the band, but Mick has an integrity that it took years for the other members to develop through all the trials and tribulations. Really have made respect for Mick and the Crue.
The most thing I enjoy from Mick which I relate very closely he's a listener, doesn't need the lime light to shine yet he's increadly grounded after major success. He's an intellectual minded guy who despite all odds, still kicking ass with no BS evolved. We love you Mick. Maybe one day getting close to end of life, he will finally shed some secret on his explosive yet controlled too fast for love tone!
For all the haters “Fuck you”. No one can understand what Mick has been through with Ankylosing Spondylitis. Movement = Pain with this fucked up disease. It deforms your body, fuses your bones, bends you to its will and constantly tests your will to live. People say Mick is standoffish, not sociable, a loner. People can hurt you even when they don’t mean to. I will do almost anything not to sneeze. That simple natural action makes my body feel like I’m being hit by a truck. That Mick has accomplished what he has is a testament to his iron will. Please don’t judge but instead rejoice in the indomitable human spirit that this man exudes. Rock on Mick.

I liked the first 3 albums best. 1) Too Fast For Love 2) Shout At The Devil 3) Theater Of Pain After that they had only a few good songs on each album after that, but those first three albums you could listen to just about every song.
I loved Theater of Pain as a kid, back when it came out. Now that album has fallen off my Motley top five albums. But my #1 is definitely Shout, and my #2 is definitely Too Fast For Love. That said, Louder Than Hell off Theater of Pain is still one of my favorite Crue songs of all time.

I really like his groove in his playing. They were tuning down long before most other bands were. He is not a classic lead player but his riffs are wicked

So weird as Theatre of Pain is my favourite MC album. City Boy Blues is my fav Crue song, but also Louder than Hell, Keep your Eye on the Money... Their debut album is my second fav.

I saw the interview with Mick on That Metal Show and I was dreaming of being one of the audience members to ask Mick about that entire Corabi experience. Thrilled to hear 50:21 *Mick say, "I thought that album was fantastic"* Yes, it is! Mick goes on 51:35, "Now they get it... and sonically, and writing wise, and lyric wise, and everything else I thought it was. I still think it is". To anyone who did not care for this album back in 94+, for whatever reason, and haven't heard it in a long time -- I urge you to give it another chance. Be sure to check out "Hammered", "Til Death Do Us Part", and "Uncle Jack". "Hooligan's Holiday" was the singe, which is a fine tune, but not necessarily representative of how rockin the other tunes on the album are.

I see many comments about Eddie Trunk not letting Mick Mars talk, but honestly Mick is EXTREMELY shy and quiet, especially now that he doesn't drink anymore. Eddie did a great job on this interview being almost like interrogating Mick to talk because if left up to Mick initiating conversation you would just hear radio silence. You can tell that Mick isn't used to being interviewed on his own with some of the nervous nonsense he is saying like "I can remember everything, all the way back to 2 years old" you guys should just give Eddie Trunk props that he got Mick Mars out of his shell tbh.
It’s not all about finger gymnastics. Mick Mars wrote some great riffs! My favorite guitar playing of his is on the Girls Girls Girls album-loaded with blues-hard rock riffs almost reminiscent of Billy Gibbons ( not Billy Gibbons) but in his own way
I'm not even a Mötely super fan, (I know/ like a handful of songs/ albums) but I just have this admiration for Mick Mars, I can't explain it. Maybe because I understand his Hoosier ideals/ values, maybe because he's just cool, a little of both? I just admire him, and agree he's under-rated!
Bought a tape of Theater of Pain in 1987 when I was 11. It was the first piece of music I ever bought. That seems like a lifetime ago. I own hundreds of albums now, and I like Motley Crue, but they aren't my favorite band by far, but I love Mick, his playing and his story and his attitude and personality, but just the Nostalgia of knowing that was the first bit of music I ever bought will always stick with me, and my mom had a baby grand piano and I figured out to play Home Sweet Home about a week after I bought it. One question I would have for Mick if I were Trunk is: exactly how old are you, Mick? Because there are different birth years listed for him. Some of my favorite riffs of his are on songs: "Too Young To Fall In Love" and "Same Ole Situation" and "Wildside" and "Girls, Girls, Girls." He was a riffmaster alot like Tony Iommi I suppose.
There's a funny trend among interviewers these days, and Eddie epitomizes it. He asks the question and then continues to talk. He does basically every time. In my day you asked a question and then you stopped and allowed the guest to answer......no longer. They all do it this new way now.
I know. It's like be honest and just say, "Be sure to tune in next week when Mick Mars will be in the studio to listen to me talk... and who knows... maybe he'll even manage to get in a few words edge wise."
I didn't realize Mick was so down to earth. The movie The Dirt really made him out to be an asshole but I see now that's not the case. I stole my first Motley cassette back in like 1984 from a department store because my parents would have never allowed me to have something like Shout At The Devil. I played it till it wouldn't play anymore.

Every band has that one shit album, and for the Crue it was that one. Mick sounds like a true gentleman, an all around decent human being, and a true, old school rock n roller . Mick Mars is a great BLUES guitarist, but he was a very great guitarist that knew his place. He could create some of the best guitar lines of all time. Honestly, he created the vocal/guitar line during a solo. That comes from the blues mimicking vocal lines. One line, and as far as blues goes, usually the guitar follows the vocal. There would be no "Teen Spirit" guitar solo without Mick Mars. "Public Enemy No. 1". It wasn't so much back and forth, but Mick Mars REALLY played the melody. They were REALLY a GREAT band. Motley Crue... Nikki had great bass lines on that album, Mick Mars had some of the best guitar melodies, Tommy Lee had some of the best Drums on that album, Vince Neil was great as well. Honestly "Too Fast For Love" was a great album musically....

David Carrafiello I would assume his daughter was telling some truth. Mick wouldn't be the first father, especially a rock n roller, who had horrible family situations. I will agree, based on not knowing all the facts, that it's possible some things she said were not true or exaggerated. I enjoy their music and have been since I was a teen in the 80s....the music and nothing more. Especially now that I am older, it's just the music and would not look at some of these people as being a hero or anything. Just my opinion. Rock on.

I worked at Tommys house back in 92. The band had parted ways with Vince and were recording with John Corabi. I brought him my Leathur records album cover, and asked him to sign it. He took it, brought it to the recording studio that night, and so Tommy, Mick, And Nicki all signed the back of it, positioning their signatures in a way that placed Vince upside down (so cool). Now for the best part. The next morning at the house, Tommy popped in a tape of the song they finished the night before.

I met Nicky at an after party at the Hyatt Regency in Houston on the Shout leg with Ozzy. I met Mick on Girls Girls Girls at a party at the Four Seasons in Houston. I also met Rudy Sarzo that night who was playing with Whitesnake. Mick and Rudy were super cool and kind to a kid grinding their riffs in his bedroom. Mick reached into his pocket and gave me a handful of black picks with the comedy/tragedy faces from Theatre of Pain and his signature on the other side. I still have them. I've met countless great musicians over the years but those guys were among the first and were super cool.
I have “Complex Regional Pain Syndrome”, also known as “Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy”, which is horribly painful and it’s hard to walk most of the time. When I REALLY think about what this man lives with AND performs with without complaining or whining I feel very humbled. I commend you Mick not only for that but for your genuine humility and straightforward nature. YOU are a TRUE hero! I met Motley backstage in 1981 (I was “Miss Reseda”-LOL) and Mick has always been a REAL DUDE! He’s truly THE most real and lovable guy in R&R! Thank you for your contribution to the soundtrack of my life.......❤️

WOW what can we say about a living legend??? I am 41 and have played guitar for over 30 years now. Mick may not be my reason for playing guitar. Ace Frehley, Randy Rhodes, and Eddie Van Halen are. But Motley Crue has been 1 of my favorite bands since as long as I can remember. My life has been Motley Crue. Mick is the most amazing, well rounded guitarist that I look up to the past few years. I even picked slide because of Mick. Mick is a one of a kind and I know the moment he plays it is him. I respect him as a musician and person. I have never been touched by a musician as I have been by Mick. He is a living legend. I first saw him in La Crosse WI, I have seen every tour since Girls Girls Girls, He walked by me with his wife and kids at the time while staying at the Holiday Inn on the Corobi tour,while I was working and I FREEKED... NONE of us got any work done that day... Mick is the greatest guitarist in my life. I would love to meet Mick and spend a day being real with my only life long living legend. Mick is the best. I don't believe EVH would regard Mick as a terrible guitarist. And I've played guitar for thirty one years, but I have never experienced anything from Motley to indicate that Mick is, was, or ever will be, less than a kick-ass guitarist. For all you guitar player types, put all of Mick's Motley riffs next to all of EVH's riffs (yes, Ed will always be remembered best for the RIFFS, no argument), and you get plenty to chew on, either way. You put the riff to "Unchained" next to "Piece of Your Action", and both riffs set it up. Learn guitar, and you will FULLY understand.

I think he's probably the sole truly admirable person in Motley Crue. I'm not saying admirable in a "rockn'roll" lifestyle sense...I'm talking the exact opposite of that. I dunno who these people really are, I just know how they've presented themselves in the public eye, at least at their height of their success...and I'm not knocking them at all, I think that's part of what makes that kind of rock music fun....all of the crazy stories from the road and stripper/pornstar girlfriends and other madness....but Mick is the one guy that has stayed low key, probably the only humble dude in the band unless you count Corabi (and trust me, if I was them in the 80's, I'd have a hard time myself staying humble too!!!) and just a genuinely good cat....he's weird but thats probably why he's who

I loved Theater of Pain as a kid, back when it came out. Now that album has fallen off my Motley top five albums. But my #1 is definitely Shout, and my #2 is definitely Too Fast For Love. That said, Louder Than Hell off Theater of Pain is still one of my favorite Crue songs of all time.

I saw the interview with Mick on That Metal Show and I was dreaming of being one of the audience members to ask Mick about that entire Corabi experience. Thrilled to hear 50:21 *Mick say, "I thought that album was fantastic"* Yes, it is!
Mick goes on 51:35, "Now they get it... and sonically, and writing wise, and lyric wise, and everything else I thought it was. I still think it is".
To anyone who did not care for this album back in 94+, for whatever reason, and haven't heard it in a long time -- I urge you to give it another chance.
Be sure to check out "Hammered", "Til Death Do Us Part", and "Uncle Jack". "Hooligan's Holiday" was the singe, which is a fine tune, but not necessarily representative of how rockin the other tunes on the album are.

I see many comments about Eddie Trunk not letting Mick Mars talk, but honestly Mick is EXTREMELY shy and quiet, especially now that he doesn't drink anymore. Eddie did a great job on this interview being almost like interrogating Mick to talk because if left up to Mick initiating conversation you would just hear radio silence. You can tell that Mick isn't used to being interviewed on his own with some of the nervous nonsense he is saying like "I can remember everything, all the way back to 2 years old" you guys should just give Eddie Trunk props that he got Mick Mars out of his shell tbh.

It’s not all about finger gymnastics. Mick Mars wrote some great riffs! My favorite guitar playing of his is on the Girls Girls Girls album-loaded with blues-hard rock riffs almost reminiscent of Billy Gibbons ( not Billy Gibbons) but in his own way
I'm not even a Mötely super fan, (I know/ like a handful of songs/ albums) but I just have this admiration for Mick Mars, I can't explain it. Maybe because I understand his Hoosier ideals/ values, maybe because he's just cool, a little of both? I just admire him, and agree he's under-rated!

Bought a tape of Theater of Pain in 1987 when I was 11. It was the first piece of music I ever bought. That seems like a lifetime ago. I own hundreds of albums now, and I like Motley Crue, but they aren't my favorite band by far, but I love Mick, his playing and his story and his attitude and personality, but just the Nostalgia of knowing that was the first bit of music I ever bought will always stick with me, and my mom had a baby grand piano and I figured out to play Home Sweet Home about a week after I bought it. One question I would have for Mick if I were Trunk is: exactly how old are you, Mick? Because there are different birth years listed for him. Some of my favorite riffs of his are on songs: "Too Young To Fall In Love" and "Same Ole Situation" and "Wildside" and "Girls, Girls, Girls." He was a riffmaster alot like Tony Iommi I suppose.

There's a funny trend among interviewers these days, and Eddie epitomizes it. He asks the question and then continues to talk. He does basically every time. In my day you asked a question and then you stopped and allowed the guest to answer......no longer. They all do it this new way now.

Mick Mars is the reason i play guitar . He has always been my favorite guitar player , my childhood idol and in my humble opinion the greatest .
Mick Mars is a great BLUES guitarist, but he was a very great guitarist that knew his place. He could create some of the best guitar lines of all time. Honestly, he created the vocal/guitar line during a solo. That comes from the blues mimicking vocal lines. One line, and as far as blues goes, usually the guitar follows the vocal. There would be no "Teen Spirit" guitar solo without Mick Mars. "Public Enemy No. 1". It wasn't so much back and forth, but Mick Mars REALLY played the melody. They were REALLY a GREAT band. Motley Crue... Nikki had great bass lines on that album, Mick Mars had some of the best guitar melodies, Tommy Lee had some of the best Drums on that album, Vince Neil was great as well. Honestly "Too Fast For Love" was a great album musically....
