Thanks Rachel for the content. You're bringing all of us together ❤ been practicing for almost 15 years and one thing that's helped me speed up cleaning up time is: at the beginning of the appointment wash hands in front of patients, then, while at the sink place a cup of mouthwash and water solution out for them to get the rest of the paste (and whatever else) out. At the end of the appointment: While they rinse, I remove my tray and most of the barriers then come back to let them ask any final questions or review education. Its cut my time quite a lot on rinsingand cleaning. I just do a light rinse and allow them to rinse and freshen up. It works for me.
Thanks for helping me remember some of the quickies tips and tricks I've used in the past 😀 Since the pandemic started and 80% of my patients are working from home...I'm one of the few humans they visit face to face, lol so they. Talk. My. Head. Off. I must practice redirecting conversions 🤗
Hi Rachel. I Loved video. It was very insightful. Even though, I’ve been doing this for 27 years going onto 28 years, hygiene is a wonderful career to be in. There’s always room for improvement and we are constantly learning. I like the polishing part first, to be honest with. I’m going to be polishing from now on to speed up my procedure time ASAP. Also, I liked the rinsing with air and water tip to speed up the rinsing process. Even the oral hygiene care discussion during the scaling procedure , will come in handy to speed up the appointment time. I had a very crappy dentist in Greenbelt Maryland that was very unprofessional, and an educated dentist, he told me to be quiet while I was doing my oral hygiene care instructions. The nerve he had! I’m happy I don’t have to go there anymore. Thanks for providing a different perspective and a fresh approach to treatment service. I’ll be checking more videos in the future.
Great video!! I have beena hygienist for 16 years and we both practice so much alike!! Great explanations, especially with redirecting a chatty patient! That one I have always struggled with! Thank You :) :)
Hi! Been practicing hygiene 20 years and just stumbled on your video. These are all great bullet points I’ve learned and try to utilize every day on a busy schedule. Good job!
Thank you for this great video!! I’m in my last semester of hygiene school and now that we will be seeing four patients a day with less appointment time, this will help tremendously!!
i'm in school still but i notice i'm very slow when it comes to patient care (perio charting, rads, scaling, etc). i'm trying to think of ways to get faster, but also still be accurate. this video was helpful for students as well. thanks. :)
This is super helpful! I just started this week as a dental hygienist working. I was wondering if you have any tips on how to keep up with notes? I keep running out of time and having to finish them up at my lunch or at the end of the day!
keep a sticky note or a sheet and write each patents name down when you get to work and then while you're waiting for the exam and doing the exam write down bullet points of what you need to remember about that patient to write down! Make up easy to remember "short cuts" for shortening up as much as you can!
I'm not sure how you're doing your notes now but I may have some tips for you as this was a struggle for me as well. We switched to having a note template that addressed everything all in one. I have a template for an adult prophy, child prophy, perio maint, debridement and SRP's. I have an empty space for Blood Pressure, a place to score plaque, calculus, bleeding and stain, recommended products and recommended re-care schedule. So instead of listing out procedures completed that day I just delete what wasn't done, it's easier for me to delete "Periodontal Chart updated; See Chart" when bitewings were taken instead that day and visa-versa. We usually do 4 bitewings and 3 anterior PA's, so that's in all the templates as well. Doctor likes me to type notes during his exams/or while I'm waiting and he applies the fluoride after the exam which often leaves me the time to finish notes, treatment plan or add watches to surfaces to monitor. I sit in the assistant chair and type until he comes in and asks to see radiographs and chip away at the notes as I can. I always plug in Blood Pressure at the beginning of the appointment so I don't have to look back at the monitor again, or the paper chart. Our office keeps both digital and paper records. I ended up editing my templates a few times to figure out what works best for our routines. Hope this helps you in some way.
Thank you for a great and informative video. I love your tip #11 and #12. Don't you mind to share your scaling sequence or routine and clock position? I still could not find my routine that works for me even I have work for half year! Thank you very much.
Thank you! Your videos are super helpful. I was curious, what are your favorite instruments to keep on your tray? What brand does your office use? I’m very overwhelmed with the amount of instruments we have at school...
I’m glad they’re helpful for you! We use the gold American Eagle instruments at our office. We have an American Eagle talon and claw in each packet! Some of my favorite instruments from hygiene school are Gracey 1/2, 4R/4L and the Nevi!
Hi, thank you for the video, these are great tips!. I am starting a new job on Monday and I know appointments have to be expedited unlike when in school. Would you share what your routine is for a typical patient? Thanks!!
Figure out why they feel that way so you can avoid it if possible and then explain and show everything to them as you go. I try to get them talking about other things to help keep their mind focused elsewhere!
@@RachelGreene Thanks for responding I was asking because I have a cleaning appointment on December 22 and I’m already so anxious and scared about it I don’t know what to do but my hygienist I see is awesome

Try the thinsert cavitron tips! They’re so thin that you can get tactile sensation with it and feel the calc!

Thanks for responding
I was asking because I have a cleaning appointment on December 22 and I’m already so anxious and scared about it I don’t know what to do but my hygienist I see is awesome
Do you have to floss a patient ?
You don't "have" to but I always do unless the patient specifically requests that I don't!
And flossing is a great way to not only remove the calc you may have shoved into the IP areas but also let’s you feel if you have missed any sub.
Hello, I texted you on Instagram. I have some questions can you check your DMS please🥺
Hello! I'm not sure if I answered yours, let me know if I missed it!
@@RachelGreene no you haven’t. Please it’s very important @alexanderherrera__
I'm sorry but I can't find any messages from you :(
