@@RachelGreene Cost of living in those cities you mentioned in California is very high. Regular folks making $60k and below are going through economic hell except for those that live in large groups in one to three units if the rules allow for it. Los Angeles >California now has the highest amount of homeless people in the country. It is wise to make at least $10,000 month or more so that after taxes you can live well.
I live in San Diego and moved from South Carolina. IT IS ROUGH. Granted I moved because my husband is in the military but going from cost of living in SC to CA is insane. Gas is 3x the price, rent is at LEAST 2k+ for a nice apartment. Minimum wage is only 10.50 and most companies barely pay over that even for a good job that’s not entry level. For instance I was a used car sales manager at Toyota in SC and made $15hr. Min wage is 7.25. Min wage here in SD was 10.50 and for the same job they’re only willing to pay $12 hour. Houses cost over 500k just for a basic simple house that’s nothing special. Even if you made say 90k here, it’s barely enough to get by. It’s very hard to live out here just for the cost of living. It’s beautiful in areas but in my opinion it’s not worth it. I can’t wait to move 😭

In Detroit RDHs make $30-50 an hour depending on their experience. Cost of living is low-medium. Really not that bad. Florida RDHs make $45-80 an hour depending on their experience. Cost of living greatly varies on what city you live in and your personal expenses. Arizona RDHs make $25-50 an hour depending on their experience. Cost of living is medium but not high. You can also factor in personal expenses. A lot of people in Arizona are native and local meaning they have more opportunity to save their salary instead of spending it on rent and living expenses, and they have the blessing of a support system that is local and being a local they probably know the ins and outs of the city better. All of this is current info I gathered from first hand experience. My primary is West Bloomfield Michigan. A lot of my family lives in Scottsdale as well. I have lived in Phoenix metro for 3 years and am planning to move back soon. My grandparents live in florida and I know I would be making a lot of money if I lived in Naples with them but I’m not sure that is going to happen as much as they want me down there. There’s a lot of high volume practices all over florida and the more affluent cities like Miami Beach and Naples or some parts of Tampa, and key west, you can enjoy better salaries if you work in a clinic that generally serves a very affluent clientele. Those clinics usually are cosmetic focused and not morally health based serving the underserved or minorities and funded by their state or city, etc.
Hey girlie! I'm currently live in AZ and I'm thinking about becoming a hygienist. I'm looking at schools right now but I wanted to know in your experience if the type or kind of schooling that you get effects how much you get paid? For example; is it better to go to college or a specialized institute? If so are there any schools you recommend in the Phoenix area? Any advice is much appreciated!!
I live in NY, making 48$ in the city, but I went to seatle WA 3 YRS ago and fall in love with the state. I want to move there, but I will have to go back to school, in WA the hygienist do much extended work. I am also afraid if they have enough jobs as here in NY.
How do I become a dental hygienist in California, I’d like to just get my associates but what dental programs do I need to take? I’m so confused on how to start
Don’t quote me on this because I’m not positive lol but I think the AS is designed to prepare you for a four year institution and an AAS is designed to prepare you to go straight into your career upon graduating!
@@RachelGreene Yep you're right! I did some research and with an AS degree it's anticipated that you'll go on to get a BS degree but you're given the option to stop after getting the AS degree. Thanks for answering sis!!
I’m really just finding out about this type of career and the pay 😏 what is the name of the exam or test you have to take to be certified after graduating? Thanks
The licensure exams very by state but mine were the National Board Dental Hygiene Examination (NBDHE), North East Regional Boards (NERB) clinical and written boards.

Ofc California. It’s expensive as hell to live in California 🙁🤕
It’s beautiful, I love the west cost but I don’t know how well I could handle that cost of living!

How is school going
Does studying 2 year of associate's and 4 year of master's degree makes a huge difference?
If you want to stay in clinical practice no, it’s not going to make much of a pay difference if any at all.
