Ok. I am in the middle of watching this video. Haven't even finished it yet. I have a 310c NON turbo. Similar engine. If you clear the fuel line to tank as well as return. New filter. New fuel pump. Look at the glass check ball in the injection pump return fitting. The ball gets black debris from somewhere (black plastic tank or degrade fuel lines). Take a pick tool and clean it out. Don't damage the ball. It is sticking. Someone reply to let me know your tried this. It's the return line fitting from injection pumps. Uses a metric open end like wrench to remove.

Every time I get an old machine, I always flush the fuel tank and replace all the fuel lines. If it has metal full lines that rusted or leak, I replace them with rubber hoses (fuel grade re enforced rubber hoses). If you can see any type of material or contamination in the return line, that could be a degraded rubber line or other contamination. Make sure to flush the complete system as the fuel contamination could damage the fuel pump, injection pump and the injectors. I have a video on my channel showing how I repaired the injuctor pump on my dump truck and also how I cleaned the fuel tank. I also have a playlist of several related diesel projects/problems. If you are interested, please watch them. Thank you for watching

Very helpful. I have a 1995 310D turbo. Having some problems starting it now. It used to start within 2 or 3 cranks but now it take 50 cranks and then it barely runs. It seems to be a fuel issue but I'm not sure. I'm going to check my fuel system. Do you have any recommendations I could check? Its been sitting all winter and I didn't top up the fuel tank in the fall. Anything you could tell me would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Hello Mel, the best thing to do is:
1- Flush all the diesel out of the fuel tank and clean the tank as much as you can.
2- Remove the fuel filter and clean the filter and pump as I did in the video.
3- Replace the fuel filter with a new one.
4- fill the clean tank with fresh diesel and add any diesel injector cleaner with the freshly added diesel.
5- clean or replace the air filter.
6- Bleed the air out of the system. when you get it running again, allow the engine to reach temp. and it should be good , unless you have injectors or pump issues. However from your comment, you only need to do some maintenance to the fuel system.
the best practice when storing these machines is to fill the fuel tank to the top, start the machine at least once every two weeks. Hopefully this was helpful, Please let me know how it goes, Best of luck,

Hello Salam, thank you for this detailed video, really well done. I have a 310D with similar issue as what's been mentioned in Jason Smith post. Runs great but once it has been working awhile it'll start losing power and eventually shutdown, no smoke. Just started doing this about a year ago. I'll blow out the return line and typically that'll get it running again for awhile but at some stage the problem comes back.
Thinking it may be a injector problem as I have changed out pump, filter, return line, and had injector pump rebuilt. Flushed out fuel tank and seemed pretty clean.
You mentioned injectors. Is there a way that I could check the injectors? Thank you.

This could be the strainer in the fuel tank. I have video when I rebuilt the fuel tank for this backhoe showing the strainer. Sometimes a diesel jelly gets built up and prevents the diesel from flowing, this usually accrues when the diesel gets warm. If you flushed the fuel tank, changed the fuel filter, cleaned the strainer and flushed the lines and the problem still there, let me know. To test the injectors, I have another video showing how I built injector's pop tester and how I cleaned and tested the injectors. Please search my channel or view the playlists as I have several videos related to diesel or fuel issues.

Just wanted to let you know I cleaned out the tank filter and flushed the tank. Both were dirty. I’ve put it all back together and tractor has been running great When I get time, I’m going to go back and clean tank /filter again then coat inside the tank as it is pretty rusty. Should be good for another 50 years after that!
      Thanks again 👍🏻👍🏻

Hello Salam! I have a 1996 310D turbo and I’m having issues with it stalling after it warms up. I believe it’s a fuel issue. The question I have is on the injection pump there is a return line and when I removed that line to check the valve to see if there was any dirt in it(their wasn’t) shouldn’t fuel come out of that return line when the machine is running? I checked the return line that runs back to the tank and fuel runs thru that line. Any suggestions? Thank you sir.

Good evening Jason, if the machine starts ok when cold, then after a while it's loses power and starts blowing white smoke, then it should be a contaminated fuel and may need fuel flush and new fuel filter. The return line is from the last injector to the fuel tank. It should output fuel while the engine is running. Please let me know if you have any more questions.

@@SalamSayhood thank you for the reply. It doesn’t smoke white smoke when it stalls out. It seems like it’s mainly stalling out when I’m putting a load on it going up hills. There is a line that runs off the fuel rail looks like between the 3rd and 4th injector and runs back to the fuel injection pump and connects to the top of it. When I took that line off and started the motor there was no fuel coming out of that line. Is that normal?

    • @SalamSayhood
      @SalamSayhood  3 года назад

On my 310D, the fuel line leave the fuel tank and goes to the fuel pump or transfer pump then it will go to the filter, from the filter it goes to the injectors pump, from the injectors pump, four lines go to each injector, the return line is a rail connect all the injectors return outlet and compined them into a single line that connects to the fuel tank. The return line should drop some fuel on high idle. All the diesel engines that I worked on share the same principle. The location of the filter maybe different or they may compined the transfer pump and injuctors pump into one unit. You may want to find a fuel line diagram for your machine and make sure everything in connected the way it should. If your machine was running okay and started acting up then it maybe bad fuel, bad fuel filter, bad transfer pump, bad injuctors pump or bad injuctor.
