    Thank you Salam, for the great detailed video. We purchased a used Cat 420F IT to clear some land where we plan to build our retirement home. It's a 2013 with @ 5000 work hrs. and the lateral swing of the boom has a lot of play so I'm thinking I have worn swing cylinder bushing and pins, and/or spongy cylinders due to worn seals. This video gives me an good idea of what I can expect. Thanks again.

      Congratulations for the machine. Thank you for the nice comment. I posted complete play list showing everything I did so far to get my machine running. Please watch all the cylinders rebuilt videos and how I repaired the Swing Tower pin. If you have any questions please let me know. Have a great day

    Thanks for this great video, your camera work is perfect for someone trying to understand the whole process. Just purchased a 1994 410D for our new home build on our 10 acres and it has 1 weepe swing cylinder and I was wondering if I would have to remove the whole cylinder to repack it, but looks like it can be repacked while still connected to the hoe. Thanks for making this video for all of us home mechanics!!

    Another great video Salam. I too will have to reseal the swing cylinders on my 310D so this was very helpful. How did you replace the wipers? Mine are completely gone. Only a thin metal ring is left. Do they press in from the front? Also are there o-rings and plastic backing rings inside of the gland? Did you purchase OE seals or aftermarket?

      Please watch all the videos related to the hydraulic cylinders repair that I did. I kinda have tips in each video. In the final video I explained what material I used and the cost. I hope this answered your questions. Be safe and have a great day

    I ended up breaking both of the cast iron rings during removal. Even though I tried to clear the rust around the gland as best I could, it was almost impossible to "slowly" extract the piston so that I could get to the ring and compress during removal. I also damaged the piston on one side, the thin piece on the far inside portion of the piston. I need to find a new piston now (I cannot find any in stock). There has got to be a better way to extract these safely.

      Good morning sir، there is no other way to extract the pistons. Since I rebuilt my machine, I visited two hydraulic shops and show the mechanics there my videos and they were impressed with the use of the hammer drill and the possibility to rebuild the cylinders on the machine. Three of the cylinders didn't want to come out, however, I took my time and removed all the rust and made sure the extraction rings were installed correctly then the pistons came out without any damage. The cast iron rings are available at any hydraulic shop. The pistons and glands for this machine are available on ebay. Please watch this video ruclips.net/video/cbBnHbYKy0w/видео.html

    Salam, did you evacuate the cylinders of hydraulic fluid first, and, if so, what method did you use?

    • @SalamSayhood
      @SalamSayhood  2 года назад +2

      I drained most of the hydraulic fluid by disconnect the houses and pushed the rod in and out to get the fluid out. You will have some that will leak out. For that, I cut plastic 55 gallons drum and used the two ends (made them into 2 large pans) I used these two pans to collect the leaked hydraulic fluid. I hope this answered your question. If you have more questions please let me know.

    I am currently installing the same cylinders and I shredded my piston seal because the installation ring grabbed and tried to go in the barrel as I pushed the piston in. Are they not designed for this purpose? I assumed they were given they are labeled as "installing rings", I figured they would protect the o.d. of the seal and o-ring on the way in. I made sure everything was spotless and no burrs on any surface. I own a machine shop/ job shop and do cylinder work every week, yet I've never had this issue. Any advice would be much appreciated. You do a great job making your videos! And I will definitely start using the hammer drill trick!! Thank you for the great video ((:

      I explained in the first video of the backhoe cylinders about the installation ring. For this type of cylinders, you only use the installation ring to extract the piston. Make sure you use it every time to protect the cast iron ring if used and also to protect the piston seals if you are not planning to replace them. If you try to use the installation ring during the installation, it will make it harder to push the piston in and may also cause the problem you described. I think the proper name of the installation ring should be the extraction ring :) I hope this answer your question and if you need more help, please let me know. Thank you for watching.

      Wrong... it's called an installation ring because it's for installing... you don't need it for extracting, you are replacing the seals anyway... I would never but a cylinder back together with anything used...to big of a risk for a fairly cheap cast iron ring

      Does it leaks? Have you checked the stick if any mechanical problem with it? Is there any mechanical binding? All other hydraulic controls cylinders still operate okay?
