- Welcome back to our channel - today we are exploring some popular mods for those Ford Focus ST drivers looking to really push their car: Aux Fuel and big fuel upgrades!
Auxiliary fuel has been around almost as long as direct injection, and remains one of the most substantial mods you can do to your fuel system. By adding a whole new bank on injectors to the intake system, we can supply a big turbo setup with enough fuel to make big power. Alan is here to highlight the pros and cons of these fuel mods, and walk you through how they work.
Alan also has his new favorite fuel mods handy: The Extreme DI fuel pump kit. We are running the XDI pump on our Half Send Ford Focus and it is performing awesome!

I like how you mentioned your internals becomes your externals, and that becomes a problem. That reminds me of my Hemorrhoids.
I feel like this was literally timed to specifically target me!
Same here the temptation is kicking in 😂
Thanks guys for sure just helped me make my decision for the future! Much love! ❤
Thanks for the great content. I'm currently looking to upgrade fueling and this made it really easy to decide.
More ST knowledge please good sir! 😅 Seriously tho keep it up you guys are great. Thank you!!
Just got a ‘14 ST and been steady watching you guys! Thank you for explaining some of this👌
Happy to help, give us a call if you ever need help picking out parts!
Alan, keep these focus st videos comin… best videos about the platform
Hands down
Thanks you, happy to help! We will certainly try!
With that information I have a new perspective on what I’m doing next. Thank you Alan for the knowledge. I think once I go BT I will definitely be getting in touch my last tune by stratified was very hectic.
We're here for you, reach out if you have any questions or concerns!
Lol you probably made this video because I kept bugging you about fuel options a couple of weeks ago! 😂. Perfect video, explains everything!
Hahaha!! I have been getting a lot of questions about this recently, not just from you.
thanks for the video
I love the video!! I'm in a situation where I'm out of fuel on both 😂
Great video Alan, looking forward to being tuned very soon - with stock turbo can injectors stay stock for full E85 plus the HPFP35? Or is the Evo simply able to force that much ethanol through the stock injectors?
(We have been in discussion a few months ago - I have the Bosch fuel pump and RS injectors. If I don't need to install the injectors while stock turbo I might hold off until bigger. We also aren't 100% sure how much extra fuelling the Bosch supplies at this stage)
Thanks
So this is a much needed video, thanks for sharing!
Ive asked in the other videos, but they're older so I dont think the responses are really there (lots of comments!)...
If i want to shoot for 450whp, the BNR3071, XDI HPFP combo would hit that on E85, right? I really like the idea of keeping it simple, reliable, and streetable with no intention of going beyond 450whp. My only other upgrade I'm guessing would be the clutch, which I dont know if the OEM RS clutch or like a stage1 clutch would be ideal.
Also, I currently run FBO/E30 with the 3" cat-less dp and 2.5" cat-back, both CNT Racing parts. Sounds great, quieter than all the 3" exhaust systems but still nice and throaty. Would the 2.5" cat-back be a restriction if the target for the above parts is 450?
Great content as always for us ST owners. I'm curious about your thoughts on the Mechanical limits for the ST (Axles, Transmission, Clutch, Etc.) on higher horsepower builds. Keep up the great work.
It really depends on how you drive it for those things. If you are drag racing, all of that will need to be upgraded. For a street car, you can probably get those parts to last at higher power numbers because they aren’t seeing huge shocks like they do in drag racing.
I drag my ST and I can fully attest to drag racing causing lots of wear and tear and I am stock turbo currently. I’ve replaced clutch and flywheel along with a rebuilt trans. Lots of work to do it yourself but damn is it worth it in the end
@@BSquaredmotors you ain't lying about the work part 🥵. This car makes it really hard to be an enthusiast, but like you said it's worth it.
No mention of the price point of the 2 port aux. Mine was 900. For me I like the 2 port keeps my engine looking cleaner/stock and I’m not tracking it. Love the ST content and the channel btw!
Awesome
Fantastic video. Thanks Alan, really appreciate these kinds of videos.. So my plan is to go Powermax at some point, but I don't think I'll go big turbo and there's not really easily accessible ethanol pumps where I live. Is there any point in aux fuel for an ST with the powermax, FMIC, exhaust, intake, and maybe a downpipe? I imagine I would go with the XDI pump if any. Seems like you pretty much answered this with the Half Send example. Basically, I'm not there yet with my ST (regarding the Powermax), but was wondering what else I can do to get more power out of it besides a big turbo.
4-port aux fuel would be overkill for a stock setup or Powermax, really. You could run a smaller (1 or 2 port) aux system with Mater/meth if you wanted to get more from your fuel system, though! Make sure you have a quality intercooler and full bolt ons to maximize power from a smaller turbo.
@@EdgeAutosport Thanks so much for the reply! Hope you have a great week.
Hey was curious if the gtx 3071r gen 2 comes with a restrictor pill in the kit on your guys website!
Question. I know this is an old video but hopefully you guys monitor old ones 🤣 let's say I have an eventual goal that's beyond what the XDI setup can handle but I'd like to keep the simplicity, safety, and easier tuning until I need to go aux fuel. I feel like it would be a yes but can you run both the XDI and aux fuel for the cars making 500+? I understand ill need to do all the aux fuel things when I get there but will I have to swap back to a stock hpfp if I went that crazy high HP route later on
Thanks for the info .
FOST bible
I have upgraded internals plus a keyed crankshaft but I don't know how much the stock block can handle cause I'm still using it just with built internals?
What do you thubk abou the speed performance, aux fuel with the plug and play harness?
Everyone talks about reliability with the XDI but I've had a few friends who've seen their XDIs fail early. For the cost, it makes no sense that they'd fail easier than the OEM HPFP. XDI also doesn't make their warranty process easy and it's painfully short for a product that costs so much.
At least with aux fuel it'll just keep going and the only issue you might have is with the wiring ... and that's countered by buying or making your own harness that plugs in.
You can get a Radium setup for around $1000 with everything and that makes it at least $600 cheaper than the XDI.
Do you think it's still an issue if you use one of the plug and play harnesses for the SS controller for aux fuel?
Based on your personal experience over the last couple years with Xtreme DI. How reliable would you say the Xtreme DI fuel injectors are? Thank you.
What seems to be the accepted limit of the XDI EVO pump with stock injectors? Saving up for a BNR ST71 and would love the simplicity of the HPFP over a port aux system
The valves tho
Can I run this xdi kit directly on my rs.. obviously with a tune.. want to go full e85. Currently on e30 stock turbo.. what’s the power difference that you have seen on this set up.. any power difference tired of mixing.
Need a st dyno video with g25-550 or 660
Did you see a power bump going from e30 to e85 after you installed the new pump? Would there be a power bump adding this to my FBO E30 on a stock turbo and mapping for e85? I'm contemplating picking one of these up to run full e85 before I go big turbo.
We've got a video, and some dyno pulls that may help answer your question! ruclips.net/video/Lab8eemmQgE/видео.html
@@EdgeAutosport Not sure how I missed this video. Thank you much for the quick reply!
Does the guardian angel offered by stratified help in anyway for the potential failure of the aux fuel kit? i know itll vent boost when it detects the systems not engaging but as for one injector or another failing will it still hold up?
This I want to know as well. I have one but haven’t installed it or my 4 port yet as I’m waiting on turbo.
While very handy, the Guardian Angel is more of a boost pressure failsafe, for overboost conditions. Aux fuel system failure would result in a dangerous LEAN condition which would not be caught by a guardian angel.
@@EdgeAutosport Right, but i thought you were able to connect systems like meth injection and 4 port to it and when they dont get a signal it force opens the blow off valve. I may be wrong thats just what i heard about it. Thank you for the info anyways
16 RS Nx2 (soon to be installed) stock block. Any reasons to go to xdi pump?
I could go either way on that… pump only won’t be enough if you want to push it. Pump and injectors would easily max out stock block. Port injection can max out stock block and then some. Unless you intend to build the motor and go bigger later, I’d go pump now, injectors later (if budget doesn’t allow for it now).
@@TMTMS3 thanks for the response! I'll be in touch in the future!
Will you be dyno-ing project half send with powermax and Aux fuel? Curious what the numbers will be with it vs without it.
The powermax doesn't really need the extra fuel, so we wouldn't really see much improvement. That, and we already bolted on the XDI pump, so probably not...
@@EdgeAutosport makes sense, thanks!
Hope we can find out together the limits of the xdi injectors and hpfp together waiting on my motor from speed 2.3 stage 2 cams xdi injectors and hpfp g30 660 built transmission lsd and will be tuned by the goat lol
@louis quint do you know how much power you are making with your set up?
Looking at a 2.0 fuse, I’m guessing a HPFP is only needed when doing big turbo e85?
Yeah, just about! That's when it is most useful for sure
@@EdgeAutosport I live 5 mins from 3 e85 stations I love it 👌🏽 so a daily e85 car would be fun
Can the xdi pump and injectors max out a 3071 gen 2 fost
On an ethanol blend, probably. On full e85, probably not.
What’s up with that dsm in the back 👀
Is it possible to use both at the same time?
Yes, I use both at the same time and made 535whp on a hot day in florida. It's hard to get to 600 without doing head work but luckily I lifted a head so now I am installing piper cams and 85lb springs :)
Now do one on the 10th gen si
What about if i have 2.5 stroker kit with twin scroll head and looking for 700whp
Well then you're definitely going to need 4-port aux fuel!
@@EdgeAutosport is it enough to run pt6466
my focus st cuts the boost , i get the full boost but then it just goes to full boost and loose power , any thoughts ?
That's pretty vague, and could be a number of things. Check for vacuum leaks, or take it in for a proper diagnosis to be sure!
@@EdgeAutosport it sounds like it’s venting i believe .
Could you end up running both?
If the demand was there, sure! they are independent systems
Can I run both???2867.. What kinda Results with stock internals ???
The 2867 is not large enough a turbo to require both, but both systems can be installed if you were to upgrade
@@EdgeAutosport
What about G25-660
@@gilserna4481 you still wouldn’t need both. There are not many scenarios where both systems would be necessary.
How much horsepower will just the xdi pump make with a bigger than powermax turbo and without injectors? Will that horsepower number be affected by the different xdi pumps?
they did a video on this already
XDI evo can squeak out the most extra fuel. It’s good to about 400 to 420 on an e blend with the right turbo. Most people will end up around 400whp pump only.
